Abstract

Surface electromyography (SEMG) is an application that helps coaches and athletes recognize and understand muscle contractions during practice and matches. Unfortunately, this tool is very expensive, so it is necessary to develop SEMG, which is cheap but has the potential to detect muscle contractions during movement. This research aims to develop an inexpensive SEMG for detecting muscle contractions. 10 sports students participated in this study, and they were active in carrying out measured and programmed physical activities four times a week. This research is an experimental study; all students will do barbell squats at 80% of the maximum load. Differences in muscle contractions on the SEMG sensor during concentric and eccentric contractions will be analyzed using the paired sample t-test. The results of this study found a difference in the amplitude of the two muscle contractions with p <0.05; besides that, for the first test, this tool was successful in describing a picture of the amplitude that continues to decrease in muscle contractions in fatigued conditions, although there needs to be an additional indicator in assessing the condition tired for SEMG. This study concludes that the SEMG sensor can detect muscle contractions due to a sports movement. Initial experiments in this study successfully detected muscle contraction signals due to different movements used low cost SEMG; then, it needs to be developed better to reduce noise due to electronic devices' influence around SEMG.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGFU) model on manipulative movement at SDN Johar Baru 13 Central Jakarta. This approach encourages active involvement, decision making, and understanding of game tactics that directly hone students' motor skills. The research method used was Quasi Experiment with One Group Pre-test–post-test design. The sample in this study was 32 students who were determined through total sampling techniques. The data collection instrument used an observation rubric used to assess the competence of basic manipulative movement skills in the form of initial and final tests accompanied by aspects assessed in the assessment rubric, namely throwing, catching, hitting, dribbling, and kicking. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, and the paired sample t-test. The results of the data study showed that the average pre-test score was 7.719 and increased to 9.125 at the time of the post-test. The paired t-test produced a significance value of 0.004 (p <0.05), which indicated that there was a significant effect after treatment was given. Thus, the learning approach using the TGFU model is achieved in improving students' motor skills, especially in students' manipulative movements in elementary schools. This study supports changes in learning strategies that are carried out repetitively and boringly towards more adaptive and flexible learning in PJOK subjects.

Abstract

Abstract

Background. Cardiovascular disease, cognitive decline, and mental health disorders are becoming increasingly prevalent worldwide, posing serious threats to public health and individual well-being. These conditions often stem from sedentary lifestyles, poor cardiovascular fitness, and lack of consistent physical activity. As such, identifying effective and accessible strategies for prevention and management is crucial. Objectives. This literature review aims to evaluate the impact of running and walking—two of the most common and accessible forms of physical activity—on cardiovascular health, cognitive function, and mental well-being. The goal is to determine the extent to which these activities contribute to the prevention and improvement of such health conditions. Methods. This study employed the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method to analyze 70 selected peer-reviewed articles published between 2014 and 2024. Articles were retrieved from reputable academic databases including Google Scholar, Scopus, Science Direct, Web of Science, and Crossref. The keywords used for selection included “cardiovascular health,” “physical activity,” “mental health,” “cognitive,” “running,” and “walking.” Results. Findings indicate that running is strongly associated with enhanced cardiovascular function, reduced risk of cognitive impairment, and improved mental health through increased blood circulation and brain activity. Walking, although lower in intensity, also showed significant benefits, particularly for older adults or individuals with limited physical capacity. Conclusion. Both running and walking are effective, non-pharmacological interventions for improving cardiovascular, cognitive, and mental health outcomes. While running provides more robust physiological benefits, walking remains a widely accessible and sustainable option for most populations.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between aerobic dance intensity and blood pressure reduction in active elderly women who routinely participate in community exercise programs. The research design used is correlational with a quantitative approach. The sample consists of members of the aerobic dance community in Taman Pakui Sayang (TPS), Makassar, comprising 20 elderly women aged 45–59 years who participate in aerobic dance at least twice a week for 8 weeks. Data were collected through blood pressure measurements before and after the intervention, as well as monitoring exercise intensity using the Borg RPE (Rating of Perceived Exertion) Scale. The results of the analysis showed a significant negative correlation between aerobic dance intensity and a decrease in systolic with r = -0.62; p = 0.001 and diastolic (r = -0.55; p = 0.004) blood pressure. These findings indicate that the higher the intensity of the exercise performed, the greater the decrease in blood pressure that occurs. Thus, moderate to high intensity aerobic dance can be an effective non-pharmacological strategy in the management of hypertension in elderly women.
