Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between aerobic dance intensity and blood pressure reduction in active elderly women who routinely participate in community exercise programs. The research design used is correlational with a quantitative approach. The sample consists of members of the aerobic dance community in Taman Pakui Sayang (TPS), Makassar, comprising 20 elderly women aged 45–59 years who participate in aerobic dance at least twice a week for 8 weeks. Data were collected through blood pressure measurements before and after the intervention, as well as monitoring exercise intensity using the Borg RPE (Rating of Perceived Exertion) Scale. The results of the analysis showed a significant negative correlation between aerobic dance intensity and a decrease in systolic with r = -0.62; p = 0.001 and diastolic (r = -0.55; p = 0.004) blood pressure. These findings indicate that the higher the intensity of the exercise performed, the greater the decrease in blood pressure that occurs. Thus, moderate to high intensity aerobic dance can be an effective non-pharmacological strategy in the management of hypertension in elderly women.

Abstract

Background: The increasing number of elderly service users in nursing homes and the small number of geriatric specialist nurses have made nurses who work in nursing homes vulnerable to burnout. Therefore, it's crucial to develop methods to anticipate and overcome burnout in geriatric nurses, particularly through non-pharmacological approaches. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of sports massage and acupressure on lactic acid levels, physical and psychological fatigue, and nurse performance. Method: A quantitative research was carried out with a quasi-experimental approach. The study population comprised nurses working at the Tresna Wredha Social Institution (TWSI). The sample included 30 participants, selected through a total sampling technique, and divided into three groups. The collected data was analyzed using ANOVA. Results: A total of 30 nurses participated in the study. After receiving the intervention, the sports massage group showed the lowest lactic acid levels at 2.7 mmol/L, the lowest physical fatigue with an average value of 25.0, and the highest performance score with an average value of 135.0. The results of statistical calculations indicate a relationship between sports massage and acupressure with outcomes (lactic acid levels, physical and psychological fatigue, and nurse performance) with a p-value of less than 0.05. Additionally, the Pairwise Comparison test found that sports massage is more effective than acupressure in reducing lactic acid levels and physical and psychological fatigue. Conclusion: The study shows that sports massage and acupressure significantly decrease lactic acid levels and physical/psychological fatigue, and can improve the performance of nurses. Furthermore, sports massage is more effective than acupressure in achieving these outcomes.

Abstract

Introduction: Dysmenorrhea, or pain during menstruation, affects a high percentage of women of reproductive age. It can disrupt learning activities at school, cause a lack of concentration, and lead to frequent absences, ultimately decreasing the quality of life for young women. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of abdominal stretching, yoga, and dysmenorrhea exercises on prostaglandin levels and pain in school-age adolescents. Method: A quasi-experimental study with an experimental laboratory design was used, with pretest and posttest control groups. The sampling technique used was probability sampling with simple random sampling of 32 female students divided into four groups, with three groups receiving abdominal stretching, yoga therapy, and dysmenorrhea exercises, respectively, and one group serving as the control group. Data was analyzed using one-way ANOVA and the Kruskal-Wallis test. Results: The average prostaglandin levels after treatment were highest in the abdominal stretching group at 31.7 pg/mL and lowest in the dysmenorrhea group at 19.0 pg/mL. The difference in prostaglandin levels was highest in the dysmenorrhea exercise group at 42.5 pg/mL and lowest in the control group at 14.4 pg/mL. Most participants who experienced moderate pain before and after the intervention generally complained of mild pain. Conclusion: The study found a significant effect of abdominal stretching therapy, yoga therapy, and dysmenorrhea exercises on prostaglandin levels and pain. Dysmenorrhea exercises were found to be the most effective therapy in reducing prostaglandin levels and dysmenorrhea pain, compared to abdominal stretching and yoga therapy.

Abstract

Objective: Women undergo various physiological and psychological changes during the reproductive stage, particularly during the menstrual cycle. Premenstrual symptoms, or dysmenorrhea, are the terms used to describe this. Menstrual pain is another term for dysmenorrhea, and primary dysmenorrhea often starts six months following menarche. Premenstrual symptoms are a complicated collection of symptoms that hurt a student's quality of life in the long run and their ability to succeed in school, participate in social activities, and maintain family relationships. Problems with both physical and mental health can benefit from yoga. Method: This study aims to assess the effectiveness of yoga activities in relieving pain in primary dysmenorrhea and premenstrual syndrome. In this investigation, a review of the literature was used. Six journal databases were searched for articles. Seven articles satisfied the requirements for inclusion. Result: The review's findings indicate that yoga practice is a viable substitute and is suggested as a simple, accessible, and non-invasive strategy for analgesia in primary dysmenorrhea and premenstrual syndrome. Novelty: This study shows the effectiveness of yoga exercises in reducing pain in primary dysmenorrhea and premenstrual syndrome for adolescents, especially women.

Abstract

Objective: Workers often ignore the various aspects that can affect their work, health, and comfort caused by physical and mental fatigue. Hospital nurse fatigue is associated with lower nurse satisfaction, higher turnover, and poor patient outcomes. Fatigue is a common problem for nurses, with 82% of nurses experiencing mild to severe physical fatigue. There are many ways to combat fatigue symptoms and speed recovery after exercise, including massage techniques. It is believed that sports massage supplies oxygen to the muscles. As it circulates in the blood, lactic acid is converted to pyruvic acid, generating ATP, and activating muscle metabolism. This study aims to identify appropriate sports massage therapy to treat caregiver fatigue issues. Method: A literature review was used in this study. Article searches were performed in his six journal databases: PubMed, JSTOR, Taylor, Willey Online, Sage, and Google Scholar. Eight articles that met the inclusion criteria were found. Result: The results of this review indicate that sports massage techniques can be used as an alternative to reduce caregiver fatigue when providing community health services. Novelty: This study shows the effectiveness of sports massage therapy in overcoming and treating caregiver fatigue issues.
