Abstract

Banana (Musa spp) is a tropical fruit plant that has many benefits and important roles for the community. This study aims to provide information on the morphological characteristics of bananas in the Gorontalo Province and their phenetic relationships. This study uses a descriptive method to describe the diversity of morphological characters of bananas (Musa spp) with data collection using a survey study method (exploration) which is carried out by tracing or exploring the location of the Gorontalo Province, purposive sampling (Purposive Stratified Sampling) by seeing and observing directly the morphological characters of bananas (Musa spp). Data analysis using the Unweighted Pair Group with Mean of Arithmetic (UPGMA) method with the Gower Genelar Similarity Coeffiicient formula in the MVSP (Multi-Variate Statistical Package) v.3.1 computer program. The results of the study showed that there were 4 types of bananas found in the Gorontalo Province which showed unique morphological variations, namely Kepok Bananas have the characteristic of quite large leaf morphology, Abati Bananas have a unique yellowish color, Green Butota Bananas have morphological characteristics with very thick fruit and Wild Bananas have characteristics with a large number of stones. Based on the results of the clustering, 2 main groups were formed which separated at a cosiness of 0.643 (64.3%) found between Abati Bananas, Green Butota, and Wild Bananas, while Kepok Bananas showed a very distant relationship with a cosiness value of 0.482 (48.2%). The results of this study have the potential to support the preservation of local varieties and support the sustainable genetics management through the identification of varieties that are tolerant to salinity and drought.

Abstract

The growth of cultivated plants is often hampered by soil degradation due to excessive use of chemical inputs. The use of microorganisms such as actinomycetes offers an environmentally friendly alternative, but its appli cation is still limited due to its low viability in the field. This study aims to analyze the colonization ability of encapsulated actinomycetes on the roots of cultivated plants, focusing on parameters such as the ability to infect root tissue, and the ability to induce growth in cultivated plants. Actinomycete isolates were obtained from the rhizosphere of maize plants that exhibit PGPR activity. This study was conducted quantitatively with a descriptive approach. This study used treatments with and without inoculation of encapsulated actinomycetes on maize (Zea mays var. ceratina) and cocoa (Theobroma cacao) plants. The results showed that encapsulated actinomycetes were able to colonize the root systems of maize and cocoa plants, as indicated by the presence of actinomycete filamentous structures on the root surface and within the root tissue. Inoculation with encapsulated actinomycetes induced growth in both plant species, as demonstrated by improvements in all growth parameters. Encapsulated actinomycetes have the potential to be effective biological agents for enhancing plant growth and provide an environmentally friendly technological alternative to support sustainable agriculture.

Abstract

Teo yam (Tacca leontopetaloides) is a coastal local plant with potential as an alternative food source; however, its utilization is declining due to decreasing local knowledge among communities. This study aimed to examine the level of knowledge of the Bajo community regarding teo yam, traditional processing techniques, and its utilization as an alternative food source. The study was conducted from January to April 2026 in Bumi Bahari, Torosiaje Jaya, and Torosiaje Villages, Popayato Subdistrict, Pohuwato Regency, using a qualitative descriptive method with an ethnobotanical approach. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation involving 60 informants selected through snowball sampling. The results showed that community knowledge varied by age group, with adults and the elderly demonstrating higher levels of knowledge than younger generations, indicating a decline in local knowledge transfer. Teo tubers are traditionally processed into flour through peeling, grating, soaking, settling, drying, and straining, before being used to prepare traditional foods such as cendol, loho bua, onde-onde, cucur, and ledo. The findings suggest that teo yam has potential as an alternative carbohydrate source while highlighting the importance of preserving local knowledge to sustain its utilization.

Abstract

Momordica cochinchinensis is a medicinal, herbs locally known in gorontallo as dumbaya. Tradisionally, this plant has been utilized as both a food of food course a herbal medicine. Due to its rich contains of bioactive compounds, making it a potential candidate for development through plant tissue culture. This study aimed to determine the effects of different chitosan concentrations on the biomass and callus morphology of M. cochinchinensis cultivated in vitro. The experiment was arranged in a non-factorial completey randomized design consisting of three chitosan concentrations: 15 mg L -1, 25 mg L-1, and 35 mg L-1, respectively, as well as a 5000 mg L-1 chitosan stock solution per liter of MS medium. Each treatment consisted of three replicates. The observed parameters included callus fresh weight, dry weight, color, texture, and the percentage of callus formation. Data were analyzed using a one-way ANOVA at a 5% significance level. Since the fresh weight data showed significant differences, it was followed by a Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at the 5% level. The results showed that different chitosan concentrations significantly affected the callus fresh weight (F = 7.932; p = 0.021). the 15 mg L-1 treatment yielded the highest fresh weight, 0.04067 ± 0.0115 g, which was significantly different from the 35 mg L-1 treatment (0.3000 ± 0.0458 g) but not significantly different from the 25 mg L-1 treatment (0.3300 ± 0.0346 g) conversely, chitosan concentration did not significantly affect the culls dry weight (F = 3.519); p = 0.097). all treatmeants resulted in 100% callus formation with white and friable callus morphology. These findings indicate that among the tasted concentrations, 15 mg L-1 of chitosan is the most favorable concentration for demonstrating callus fresh weight accumulation of M. cochinchinensis under in vitro culture conditions.

Abstract

Momordica cochinchinensis (Lour.) Spreng., locally known as dumbaya in Gorontalo, is a tropical climbing plant with potential as a functional food and medicinal resource, but its natural availability is limited by low seed germination, slow growth, and environmental sensitivity. This study aimed to determine the effect of methyl jasmonate (MeJA) concentrations on callus growth of young stem explants of M. cochinchinensis under in vitro conditions. The experiment used a completely randomized design with five treatments: MS without plant growth regulators, MS + 2,4-D + BAP, MS + MeJA 6 mL/L, MS + MeJA 11 mL/L, and MS + MeJA 16 mL/L. The observed parameters were callus formation percentage, callus initiation time, and callus morphology. Quantitative data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA followed by Duncan’s test at 5%, while morphological data were described qualitatively. All treatments produced 100% callus formation within 14 days. MeJA affected callus initiation time, with MS + MeJA 6 mL/L showing the fastest average response at 3.67 days after culture. The callus was mostly friable with varied coloration. This treatment may support further development of M. cochinchinensis callus culture and provides preliminary information for optimizing in vitro propagation protocols for this locally valuable species in future studies.

Abstract

Abstract: Wildlife Sanctuary in Boalemo Regency, Gorontalo Province, possesses a high diversity of plant species with considerable potential for ecotourism development. This study aims to identify plant species with ecotourism potential and to analyze their diversity levels in two locations: SP3 and Tamilo. This study was conducted from January to April 2026 using a quantitative descriptive-exploratory method through field observations, morphological identification, and analysis of the Shannon-Wiener diversity index. The results show that the SP3 area contains 21 plant species with ecotourism potential from various families, whereas the Tamilo area contains 12 species. The diversity index value in SP3 is H' = 2.647 (moderate), while Tamilo has a higher value of H' 3.236 (high). The identified plant species possess various tourism attraction values, including aesthetic, educational, cultural, economic, and conservation values, comprising highly conserved species such as Canarium pilosum, Dalbergia latifolia, and Pterocarpus indicus, Both areas have the potential to be developed into agroforestry and ethnobotany tourism attractions that support conservation efforts while empowering local consis Keywords: ecotourism; plant diversity; tourist attraction; Nantu-Bolivehuto buffer zone; diversity index.   Abstrak: Kawasan penyangga Suaka Margasatwa Nantu-Boliyohuto di Kabupaten Boalemo, Provinsi Gorontalo, menyimpan keanekaragaman tumbuhan yang berpotensi besar untuk dikembangkan sebagai destinasi ekowisata. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis tumbuhan berpotensi ekowisata dan menganalisis tingkat keanekaragamannya di dua lokasi, yaitu SP3 dan Tamilo. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan Januari hingga April 2026 dengan metode deskriptif kuantitatif-eksploratif melalui observasi lapangan, identifikasi morfologi, dan analisis indeks keanekaragaman Shannon-Wiener. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kawasan SP3 terdapat 21 jenis tumbuhan berpotensi ekowisata dari berbagai famili, sedangkan kawasan Tamilo terdapat 12 jenis tumbuhan. Nilai indeks keanekaragaman di SP3 sebesar H' = 2,647 (kategori sedang), sementara Tamilo lebih tinggi dengan H' = 3,236 (kategori tinggi). Tumbuhan yang ditemukan memiliki beragam nilai daya tarik, meliputi nilai estetika, edukasi, budaya, ekonomi, dan konservasi, termasuk spesies bernilai konservasi tinggi seperti Canarium pilosum, Dalbergia latifolia, dan Pterocarpus indicus. Kedua kawasan berpotensi dikembangkan menjadi atraksi wisata berbasis agroforestri dan etnobotani yang mendukung upaya konservasi sekaligus pemberdayaan masyarakat lokal. Abstract

Abstract: Understory plant diversity is an important indicator in maintaining ecosystem stability in plantation areas. Differences in environmental conditions between coconut and citrus plantations are assumed to influence the composition and diversity level of understory plants. This study aimed to determine the species composition and diversity level of understory plants in coconut (Cocos nucifera) and citrus (Citrus spp.) plantations in Sari Tani Village, Boalemo Regency. The study used a quantitative descriptive method with a field survey approach. Data collection was conducted using an exploratory method at two observation stations and analyzed using the Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H’). The results showed that the coconut plantation contained 494 individuals consisting of 15 species, 8 families, and 7 orders, while the citrus plantation contained 165 individuals consisting of 8 species, 7 families, and 5 orders. The dominant species at both locations was Eleusine indica (L.) Gaertn. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index value in the coconut plantation was 2.609, while in the citrus plantation it was 1.754. These values indicate that both locations have a moderate level of diversity with relatively stable ecosystem conditions. Differences in composition and diversity values were influenced by microclimatic conditions and environmental characteristics in each plantation area. Keywords: Understory plant diversity, coconut plantation, citrus plantation, Shannon-Wiener   Abstrak: Keanekaragaman tumbuhan bawah merupakan salah satu indikator penting dalam menjaga stabilitas ekosistem pada kawasan perkebunan. Perbedaan kondisi lingkungan antara perkebunan kelapa dan jeruk diduga memengaruhi komposisi serta tingkat keanekaragaman tumbuhan bawah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui komposisi jenis dan tingkat keanekaragaman tumbuhan bawah pada perkebunan kelapa (Cocos nucifera) dan jeruk (Citrus spp.) di Desa Sari Tani, Kabupaten Boalemo. Penelitian menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif dengan pendekatan survei lapangan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan metode eksplorasi pada dua stasiun pengamatan dan dianalisis menggunakan indeks keanekaragaman Shannon-Wiener (H’). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pada perkebunan kelapa ditemukan 494 individu yang terdiri atas 15 spesies, 8 famili, dan 7 ordo, sedangkan pada perkebunan jeruk ditemukan 165 individu yang terdiri atas 8 spesies, 7 famili, dan 5 ordo. Spesies yang mendominasi pada kedua lokasi adalah Eleusine indica (L.) Gaertn. Nilai indeks keanekaragaman Shannon-Wiener pada perkebunan kelapa sebesar 2,609, sedangkan pada perkebunan jeruk sebesar 1,754. Nilai tersebut menunjukkan bahwa kedua lokasi memiliki tingkat keanekaragaman sedang dengan kondisi ekosistem yang relatif stabil. Perbedaan komposisi dan nilai keanekaragaman dipengaruhi oleh kondisi mikroklimat serta karakteristik lingkungan yang berbeda pada masing-masing kawasan perkebunan. Abstract

Jagung Momala (Zea mays L.) merupakan varietas jagung lokal Gorontalo yang memiliki nilai penting sebagai sumber pangan dan plasma nutfah daerah. Pemanfaatan Actinomycetes sebagai biostimulan mikroba berpotensi mendukung aktivitas fisiologis tanaman melalui peningkatan ketersediaan dan penyerapan unsur hara. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis respons kandungan klorofil jagung Momala terhadap pemberian berbagai dosis inokulum Actinomycetes. Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan Acak Kelompok (RAK) dengan tiga perlakuan, yaitu MA0 (tanpa Actinomycetes), MA1 (5 g inokulum), dan MA2 (10 g inokulum), masing-masing dengan tiga ulangan. Kandungan klorofil a, klorofil b, dan klorofil total dianalisis pada umur 49 dan 56 hari setelah tanam (HST) menggunakan metode spektrofotometri. Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis varians (ANOVA) pada taraf signifikansi 5%. Secara deskriptif, perlakuan MA2 menunjukkan kandungan klorofil b dan klorofil total tertinggi pada umur 49 dan 56 HST, sedangkan kandungan klorofil a tertinggi ditemukan pada MA0 pada umur 49 HST dan MA1 pada umur 56 HST. Namun, hasil ANOVA menunjukkan bahwa pemberian Actinomycetes tidak memberikan pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kandungan klorofil a, klorofil b, maupun klorofil total pada kedua waktu pengamatan (P 0,05). Dengan demikian, pemberian inokulum Actinomycetes pada dosis 5 dan 10 g per polybag belum menunjukkan perubahan kandungan klorofil jagung Momala yang signifikan secara statistik.
