Abstract

Kelor plant (Moringa oleifera Lamk) is a plant that grows naturally in a tropical climate. During this decoction of pirdot leaves plants are used by the people as antimicroba. The purpose of this study was to isolate triterpenoid compound from ethyl acetate extract of kelor leaves. The sample extraction was performed by maceration method using methanol as a solvent. Fractionation used n-hexana and etil asetat as a solvent. The separation and purification of the compound was carried out by column chromatography method followed by stain pattern analysis with thin layer chromatography (TLC). Characterization and elucidation of pure compound structures using UV, IR, 1H-NMR, 12C-NMR, HSQC, HMBC, and 1H-1H COSY, and compared with various literatures. Based on the result of structural elusidation, the pure isolate obtained is a pentacyclic triterpenoid group compound with the molecular formula C30H50O and the name of 3-hydroxy, 20 (29) -en, lupenol. The triterpenoid compound of 3-hidroxy, 20 (29) -en, lupenol is the first isolated and reported from leaves of kelor plant.

Abstract

In our earlier study, we managed to find the antibacterial activity of the ethyl acetate fraction of the kesambi bark stem. In our next study, we isolated secondary metabolite compounds from the ethyl acetate fraction of the kesambi stem bark and tested the antibacterial activity of isolates against the bacteria Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Separation is carried out by the method of column chromatography. Analysis of stain patterns and purity was performed with thin-layer chromatography (TLC). The test of antibacterial activity was carried out by the Kirby Bauer method. Characterization of pure isolates was performed with IR, 1H -NMR, 13C -NMR and DEPT 135° spectroscopy. The results of the characterization of pure isolates show that the isolated compound is a triterpenoid compound with the name IUPAC compound lup-20(29)-en-3-ol. The results of antibacterial tests showed that the compound lup-20(29)-en-3-ol has antibacterial activity against E. coli and S. aureus which is relatively moderate.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the chemical characteristics of coconut shell liquid smoke and analyze the effectiveness of using liquid smoke in reducing Pb metal contamination in skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus Pelamis). Grade 2 liquid smoke from coconut shells is produced by the Pulubala IKM center through the stages of pyrolysis and distillation. This study employs a completely randomized design (CRD) with two replications. To determine the chemical characteristics of the liquid smoke, the analyzed methods include pH measurement, phenol content, total acidity, protein content, organoleptic value, and the chelating power of heavy metal Pb with variations in the concentration of liquid smoke test solutions AC (undiluted liquid smoke), AC2, AC4, AC6, and AC10 (liquid smoke with the addition of distilled water at 2%, 4%, 6%, and 10%). The results show that the best treatment is obtained from coconut shell liquid smoke with AC concentration (undiluted liquid smoke) having the best characteristics, namely a pH value of 4, phenol content of 1.6469%, total acidity of 14.94 mg/mL, protein content of 0.6083%, and a chelating power for heavy metal Pb of 97.32%. The results of the organoleptic test indicate that overall, the highest score was obtained with a neutral value at the concentration of AC2 (liquid smoke with the addition of 2% distilled water).

Abstract

This service activity aims to provide training on making vegetable pesticides to farmers and housewives. As an alternative to controlling plant insect pests, the use of vegetable pesticides is considered safe to use. Botanical Pesticides are pesticides whose active ingredients come from plants or herbs and other organic materials which are efficacious in controlling pest attacks on plants. This pesticide does not leave harmful residues on plants or the environment and can be made easily using inexpensive materials and simple equipment. Vegetable pesticides are relatively easy to make with natural or vegetable ingredients which make these pesticides easy to decompose in nature so they don't pollute the environment. This organic pesticide is able to overcome and repel pests that destroy agricultural and plantation crops in general, such as fleas, caterpillars, grasshoppers and so on. The method used is direct training to groups of housewives and vegetable farmers using innovative technology. From the results of the implementation of these activities, the community was very enthusiastic about participating in these activities and was interested in making/producing their own pesticides from materials that are easy to obtain from the surrounding environment
