Abstract

This study explores the moral values portrayed in the animated film Encanto. Using a qualitative approach and structural analysis based on Pavis (1998), the research examines key scenes and dialogues to identify the film’s underlying moral themes. Data were collected through close analysis of the movie’s script, focusing on character behavior and narrative structure. The findings show Encanto highlights several important moral values, including love, positivity, perseverance, resilience, and wisdom. These values are reflected through the characters’ personal struggles and family dynamics. The emotional intelligence demonstrated by the characters also presents opportunities for educators to teach emotional regulation and resilience in the classroom. As a result, Encanto can serve as an effective tool in moral education, helping students connect fictional experiences to real-life situations. This study encourages learners to reflect on ethical messages and apply them in their daily lives, contributing to their personal and social development

Abstract

Guidance and counseling (GC) services occupy a strategic role in supporting students’ academic development, personal–social growth, and career readiness; however, the effectiveness of their implementation in secondary schools still requires systematic evaluation to ensure they meet the demands of modern education. We directed this study to evaluate the GC service program at SMA Negeri 1 Sekadau using the Context, Input, Process, and Product (CIPP) model as a basis for continuous improvement. This research employs a qualitative evaluative approach, weaving together in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis to capture the authentic perspectives of school administrators, practitioners, and students. By situating our investigation within the real-world dynamics of the school ecosystem, we aimed to uncover the tensions between policy ideals and operational realities. Our investigation reveals a compelling narrative of a program caught between normative aspirations and operational constraints. We found that while the GC program is formally aligned with national educational policies and the Merdeka Curriculum, its context remains largely reactive, relying on incident reports rather than systematic diagnostic needs assessments. Furthermore, although the school benefits from professionally qualified personnel, they are significantly hindered by structural deficits, specifically a lack of validated service instruments and facility support. The implementation process follows a routine schedule yet is often characterized by administrative informality, lacking the rigorous documentation and collaborative mechanisms necessary for truly reflective practice. Finally, while the services produce initial positive personal-social impacts on students, these outcomes remain largely anecdotal, unmeasured, and unevenly distributed across the student body.

Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is essential in English language learning because it supports students’ ability to understand and express ideas effectively. However, students often experience difficulties in mastering past-tense verbs due to the continued use of conventional teaching methods that emphasize memorization. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of digital storytelling in teaching past-tense verbs to tenth-grade students at SMAN 3 Bengkayang. Using a quasi-experimental design, the participants consisted of two groups: an experimental group and a control group, each consisting of 24 students. The data were collected through parallel 30-item cloze tests administered before and after the treatment and were analyzed using a t-test. The results showed that the experimental group demonstrated a significant improvement in vocabulary mastery, while the control group showed no significant increase. It can be concluded that digital storytelling is an effective instructional medium for improving students’ mastery of past-tense verbs in EFL classrooms.

Abstract

The student admission system is a strategic instrument for ensuring equitable access and improving the quality of education; however, its implementation often remains administratively oriented and does not fully support sustainable quality management. This study aims to evaluate the student admission service system by examining policy alignment, resource readiness, service process quality, and its implications for educational quality. The research employs a qualitative approach with an evaluative design based on the Context, Input, Process, and Product (CIPP) model. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observation of service processes, and document analysis, and were analyzed interactively through data reduction, categorization, and interpretation of findings. The results indicate gaps between policy objectives and operational implementation, limitations in supporting inputs, service processes that remain largely procedural, and suboptimal use of admission outcomes for quality planning. The discussion emphasizes that student admission services need to be reoriented from merely an administrative selection mechanism to a strategic instrument for improving educational quality. This study concludes that the CIPP model is effective as a comprehensive evaluation framework to support data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement in educational management.
