Abstract

ABSTRACTThe local wisdom of marsialapari, a mutual assistance activity in the Angkola Mandailing community, represents a form of local wisdom that remains prevalent today. This study aims to examine the values embedded in the local wisdom of marsialapari and its relevance to character education for the Angkola Mandailing community. The research employs a research and development method. The findings reveal that marsialapari as local wisdom is a mutual assistance activity that characterizes the Angkola Mandailing community as an expression of the philosophy of holong (compassion) and domu (togetherness) within the framework of local wisdom encapsulated in dalihan na tolu. The tradition of marsialapari in the Angkola Mandailing community is closely linked to the development of national character in Indonesia, which is founded on noble principles such as solidarity, the spirit of mutual cooperation, ethics, religiosity, and respect for diversity. These principles have the potential to create a generation that is moral, high-integrity, and of high quality, a tradition that remains well-maintained and practiced to this day. Abstract

Language planning policy is essential for language preservation, yet research rarely addresses vernacular or local languages specifically. This study examines how vernacular language planning policies can contribute to the preservation and revitalization of local languages, focusing on the case of Aceh, a province in Indonesia with a rich variety of local languages requiring preservation efforts. The study’s primary goal is to identify an effective framework for vernacular language planning in Aceh that can serve as a practical reference for language policymakers, planners, and researchers in Indonesia and beyond. Utilizing a systematic review method, this research analyzes literature on language vitality, endangerment, revitalization, and planning policy. Key findings reveal a newly developed vernacular language planning framework tailored to the current vitality status of Acehnese languages, offering a suitable model for their preservation and revitalization. This framework has the potential to serve as a foundational tool for efforts to sustain and revive Acehnese and other vernacular languages more broadly.

Abstract

-This article investigates the role of social semiotics in enhancing text comprehension across various academic disciplines, addressing a critical gap in interdisciplinary understanding methods. Although previous studies applied social semiotics to specific modes and disciplines, a comprehensive analysis that includes multiple semiotic elements in academic texts remains limited. The objective of this study is to verify how social semiotics can be used to interpret complex, multimodal academic texts, thereby aiding students in diverse fields. By using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology, the study analyzes findings from 13 relevant articles sourced from Google Scholar between 2020 and 2024. Key findings highlight that social semiotics facilitates understanding by enabling readers to contextualize and interpret multimodal content such as visual elements, data, and narrative structures unique to each discipline. These insights reveal implications for educators in developing interdisciplinary comprehension strategies and underscore the ability of social semiotics as a framework for understanding academic texts holistically. Consequently, this research contributes to the theory and practice of education by providing concrete guidance for improving cross-disciplinary text comprehension, ultimately supporting more effective and inclusive academic learning.
