Abstract

Mangrove forest is one of the important ecosystems in Karimunjawa, Indonesia. It provides a variety of services both ecologically and economically. However, over-exploited activity, such as timber theft, can be threatening the sustainability of mangrove forest in Karimunjawa now and in the future. Thus, the improved management for mangrove forest is necessary to ensure its sustainability, and it is depending on how people value the conservation from economic and environment consideration. This study examines the factors influencing on the willingness to pay (WTP) of respondents for mangrove restoration in Karimunjawa. A total of 502 respondents were interviewed using census method. The method employed is Contingent Valuation Method (CVM)Single Bounded. In CVM, the logit model was defined based on dichotomous choice method to estimate the willingness-to-pay (WTP) randomly with three different starting bid value. Findings showed that local awareness of the importance of the values given by mangroves was popularized among local communities. The findings also indicated that respondents who are higher education and have more income were more likely to pay for the mangrove restoration.

Abstract

This research on production efficiency and availability of brackishwater pond pro- duction in Parigi Moutong whether in a state of food insecurity or not. This study used a stochastic frontier production function analysis and cost benefit ratio. As a result, production of aquaculture ponds in the study sites were technically not effective, but feasible to proceed. Cultivation was not efficient because of the positive and significant influence of production inputs of land, seed, and labor. Production inputs such as fertilizer, feed, experience, lime, technology, fisheries counsellor were not significant The availability of pond products produced by processes that have not been efficient and food insecurity due to consumption of fish per capita per year is greater than the amount of production. Strengthening the performance of the pond to achieve food security needs to intensification and diversification. Intensification of land from two crops to be harvested three times a year.

Abstract

Semarang Regency has a great agro-tourism potential. Volcanic soil suitable for planting and cool temperatures support it to be a place of recreation. The study was conducted at Setiya Aji Flower Farm (SAFF), a chrysanthemum agro-tourism in Jetis village, Bandungan District, which is managed by farmer groups and local communities. The management is still very simple by utilizing the pre-harvest chrysanthemum flowers for tourism. SAFF was able to bring in 107,966 tourists during 2017, with an entrance ticket currently at Rp 7,500 generates substantial additional income for the people of Jetis village. Unfortunately, the number of tourists decreased until 65% to an average of 3,127 tourists per month in 2018. One of the causes of the reduction in tourist visits was the unpreparedness of the SAFF to face of competition with new tourist objects with similar themes around SAFF that were very well managed and continued growing. The purpose of this study was to estimate the willingness of visitors to pay for additional facilities at SAFF Bandungan, Semarang Regency. This study used the Contingency Assessment Method (CVM) to 110 visitors. The results showed that the majority of visitors are willing to pay for additional facilities at SAFF agrotourism. Willingness to pay (WTP) is estimated at level Rp 13,000. These results provide insights to the manager of SAFF to raise the entrance ticket by adding facilities at SAFF.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the triple role of fishermen's wives, analyze how they contribute to their families' economy, and determine appropriate strategies for fishermen's wives to support household economies in the coastal area of Tegal City. This study finds that, on average, fishermen's wives have low educational levels and limited economic access. We use the mixed method (combining the quantitative and qualitative approaches) to analyze the data from 100 respondents selected with the purposive sampling method. Additionally, we also conduct in-depth interviews with selected key persons. Our results indicate that fishermen's wives in Tegalsari and Muarareja villages have triple roles (production, reproduction, and community management). They work to earn revenues while playing their domestic role (becoming housewives) and play active roles in their social lives. Further, these wives contribute significantly to their families' incomes. We then use ATLAS.ti as a qualitative analysis tool to analyze strategies for empowering fishermen's wives from the economic, cultural, and institutional aspects.
