Abstract

The preservation of Lampung and Baduy cultures within the framework of Islamic education literacy is a crucial effort to safeguard rich cultural heritage in alignment with Islamic values. Both communities possess unique and traditional cultures that reflect a strong worldview and faith rooted in Islam. This study aims to understand how the preservation of Lampung and Baduy cultures can become an integral part of Islamic education and how it can contribute to shaping Islamic character in younger generations. The research employs a descriptive-analytical approach, collecting data through literature review, field observation, and interviews with local community leaders. The findings indicate that preserving the cultures of Lampung and Baduy can be integrated into Islamic education literacy through several key aspects. First, Character Education: Cultural values such as interreligious harmony, honesty, and simplicity can be taught within the context of Islamic education to shape an Islamic character. Second, Environmental Awareness: The Baduy people, for instance, maintain a close relationship with nature. Concepts of sustainability and environmental appreciation can be included in Islamic teachings about human responsibility as stewards (Khalifah) of the Earth. Third, Social Values: Both communities emphasize cooperation, solidarity, and mutual assistance. These can be incorporated into Islamic education to teach social values like zakat and charity (sadaqah). Fourth, Respect for Ancestors: Both groups uphold traditions of honoring their ancestors. In Islamic education, respect for parents and elders aligns with teachings on filial piety and gratitude. Fifth, Local Arts and Culture: Local art forms, such as traditional dances and music, can be integrated into Islamic arts education that values beneficial and morally supportive artistic expressions. Preserving the cultures of Lampung and Baduy within Islamic education literacy is not only about maintaining traditions but also about nurturing a strong Islamic character in the younger generation. By combining these local cultural values with Islamic teachings, education becomes a powerful tool for both cultural preservation and the development of individuals grounded in Islamic principles.

Abstract

There are several main indicators that can be used to assess the quality of sourdough starter, namely pH, dough volume, and the presence and diversity of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB). Meanwhile, the addition of natural ingredients such as fermented Ambon bananas is considered to be able to improve the quality of sourdough starters, by increasing the number and diversity of LAB. This study is a comparative exploratory study that compares the quality of sourdough starters made with fermented Ambon bananas (Type III) and those made without Ambon bananas (Type I), and identifies the diversity of LAB in both. This study showed that all parameters are better in type III than in type I, where the pH is lower, the dough develops faster and has a larger volume, and the number of LAB is higher. Meanwhile, the LAB contained in Type III is more diverse (Lactobacillus pentosus, Lactobacillus plantarum, and Lactobacillus paraplantarum) compared to Type I, which only contains one isolate (Lactobacillus pentosus). Based on the results found, sourdough with the addition of Ambon banana fermentation can produce better starter quality and contains more diverse LAB, namely heterofermentative and homofermentative. Keywords: sourdough starter, fermented ambon banana fruit, lactic acid bacteria.

Abstract

Abstract

Diabetic ulcers are a serious complication in diabetic patients, often becoming infected with various pathogenic bacteria, including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which is known for its high resistance to multiple antibiotics. This study aimed to identify the presence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in diabetic ulcers and evaluate its sensitivity to the antibiotics ciprofloxacin and ceftazidime at the Diabetic Wound Care Center (RUMAT) in Surakarta. The research used a descriptive observational design with the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method for antibiotic susceptibility testing, along with bacterial isolation, Gram staining, and biochemical tests for identification. The results showed that out of 8 specimens examined, 4 specimens (50%) were identified as Pseudomonas aeruginosa, all of which demonstrated sensitivity to ciprofloxacin and ceftazidime, with inhibition zones above the sensitive standard according to CLSI M100 2023.

Abstract

Mutation induction of porang both physically and chemically is widely used to increase the genetic variation of porang. However, mutation induction chemically by using colchicine is more effective than the other mutagens. Therefore, this study aims to assess the genetic diversity of porang after mutation induction using colchicine. Polyploidy induction is performed 30 days after planting of the porang plantlet. 0%, 0.01%, 0.02%, 0.03% and 0.04% colchicine was added to 12.5 ml of MS medium using a 0.22 µm Millipore filter. After 53 days, porang plantlets were ready for DNA isolation. A total of 10 SRAP primer combinations were used for DNA amplification. Genetic diversity in and between porang population was performed using POPGENE software. Clustering analysis using PAST Software was also performed to identify genetic variation. Mutation induction using colchicine significantly increased the genetic diversity of porang. Among the SRAP primer combinations, ME2-EM2 is the most effective in detecting the induced genetic variation in porang. Mutation induction using 0.03% colchicine is highly recommended as it produces significant genetic changes compared to normal porang. Porang mutant resulting from 0.03% colchicine treatment holds great potential for porang breeding programs, as it can generate novel phenotypic variations and increase the chances of obtaining superior genotypes with desirable agronomic traits.

Abstract

Since its first discovery in Indonesia, dengue fever (DHF) has remained a public health threat. Numerous measures have been taken to break the life cycle of its vector, Aedes aegypti, but the number of cases has yet to be eliminated. The disease seems to spread randomly, and its incidence is unpredictable. Often, outbreaks are accompanied by fatalities. Research into environmentally friendly and safe materials has been extensively conducted, but this disease has not yet been effectively eradicated. To maximize the prevention and elimination of dengue fever, it is crucial to understand the behavior of the vector to achieve accurate and optimal results. The primary objective of this activity is to prevent dengue fever, as several cases of dengue fever were reported in Grogol district earlier this year. This activity was held in May 2024 in Langenharjo sub-district, Sukoharjo city, with 47 participants. After participating, community understanding increased, as reflected in the average score of 89.79. Participants and cadres can carry out and socialize effective dengue fever prevention and are able to prevent and eliminate dengue fever using the ovitrap technique.
