Abstract

Operating room scheduling is a complex process that involves various resources and takes the interests of many parties into consideration. The genetic algorithm is the frequently used metaheuristic algorithm to solve a large-size operating room scheduling problem. Many techniques have been developed to improve the genetic algorithms' performance in dealing with the operating room scheduling complexity. In this paper, we survey available literature to identify improvement techniques used at each stage of the genetic algorithm and capture the underlying problems. This review provides a mapping of improvement techniques in genetic algorithms correlating with the considered problems. The results can be employed by other researchers as a guide for future research in integrating a genetic algorithm or other population-based metaheuristic algorithm with a recent heuristic algorithm following the future directions of operating room scheduling research.

Abstract

Biomass gasification is potentially generating not only producer gas but also tarry components. Practically, the gas may substitute traditional fuel in an internal combustion engine after reducing the tar. This research examined a producer gas recycle system to reduce tar component of producer gas generated with cocoa pod husks gasification using air as gasifying agent in a fixed-bed downdraft gasifier. Cocoa pod husks feed sizes were +1 sieve, -1+ 0.5 sieve, and -0.5 sieve. The gasification process was operated at the temperature range of 491 940oC and at various gasifying agent volumetric rates of 62.84; 125,68; and 188.53 NL/min or at equivalent ratio range of 0.014 0.042. A recycle system of outlet producer gas to gasifier was set at volumetric rates of 0.139; 0.196; and 0.240 L/min. The performance of the system was evaluated with analyzing the tar component using gravimetric method of ASTM D5068-13, and the gas component of CO, H2, CO2 and CH4 compositions in producer gas were analyzed using Gas Chromatography GC-2014 Shimadzu sensor TCD-14. This recycle system succeeded in reducing tar content as much as 97.19% at 0.139 L/min of recycle volumetric rate and at biomass feed size of -1+0.5 sieve. The producer gas contained CO, H2, CO2 and CH4 of 23.29%, 2.66%, 13.30%, and 14.18% respectively. The recycle system cold gas efficiency was observed 65.24% at gasifying agent volumetric rate of 188.53 L/min and at biomass feed size of +1 sieve.

Abstract

Nanocellulose is a type of cellulose that is being widely developed to replace petroleum-based polymers. This material possesses biocompatible properties, is abundant in nature, and is eco-friendly due to its biodegradability, sustainability, and non-toxic nature. Various nanocellulose synthesis methods are employed, including acid hydrolysis, alkaline, mechanical and biological treatments, as well as ionic liquid and deep eutectic solvent methods. The choice of synthesis method greatly influences the particle size and crystallinity of the resulting nanocellulose; hence further investigation is needed to determine the effectiveness of these methods. Nanocellulose finds applications in various fields, such as films, polymers, cosmetics, medical fuels, and energy storage. Among the different nanocellulose synthesis methods, ionic liquid and deep eutectic solvent (DES) methods have environmentally safe waste with better temperature, time, and diameter control compared to other methods. However, the DES method is currently preferred over the ionic liquid method due to the possibility of separating the lignin waste from the solvent.

Abstract

This research discusses the authority to adjudicate fisheries criminal cases in the Republic of Indonesia State Fisheries Management area (WPPNRI) and the regulatory concept based on the principle of legal certainty. This research aims to analyze and discover the nature of the authority and regulatory concept for adjudicating fisheries criminal cases in Indonesia based on the principle of legal certainty. The method used in this research is a normative legal method using data collection techniques through literature study which are then analyzed through step-by-step descriptions of legal interpretation, systematization, evaluation, and legal argumentation. The research results show that the authority to adjudicate fisheries criminal cases at WPPNRI is absolute (absolute competence or attribution) to accept and decide fisheries disputes, and has relative authority (distribution or relative) based on the general court area. This regulatory concept is proposed by reconstructing Article 106 of the Fisheries Law so that the fisheries court becomes the only institution adjudicating fisheries cases. Establishing a fisheries court in each province is expected to end the dualism of authority and create legal certainty. Therefore, it's necessary to reconstruct Article 106 of the Fisheries Law by increasing the number of special fisheries courts, practitioners, and law enforcers to increase synergy between investigators and fisheries supervisors to protect fish resources and ensure their benefits for the welfare of the Indonesian people.

Abstract

Recycling is one way to manage plastic waste. If recycled, plastic waste in the form of bottles, glasses or other plastic waste has a fairly high selling value. The waste bank in Salakan Bangunharjo Bantul has been quite engaged in the plastic waste processing business. One of the activities of this waste bank is to collect and sort plastic waste from the community, but it has not been maximized because of space constraints and also does not have a plastic waste shredder. Therefore, the Abdimas Team from the Department of Environmental Engineering and Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, AKPRIND University Indonesia, designed and made a plastic waste shredding machine. The method carried out is to conduct plastic waste management training through waste banks, the use and maintenance of plastic waste shredding machines and the delivery of plastic waste shredding machines. The purpose of this service activity is so that the waste bank in Salakan can carry out the plastic waste recycling process optimally, so that it can increase the economic value of the plastic waste. The capacity of this plastic waste shredder is 20 Kg/hour using a gasoline motor as a propulsion, and has specifications of 66 cm in length, 38.5 cm in width and 80 cm in height. Based on the results of the survey using questionnaires, this service activity can be said to be successful because community members, especially members and administrators of waste banks in Salakan, have become more aware of the benefits of plastic waste sorting, the operation and maintenance of plastic waste shredders, and positively assess and agree with this community service activity.

Abstract

Welding is joining two or more metal parts by heating the metal until it melts and then adding material (electrode) to fuse like a complete object. The welding process on steel causes the metal around the weld area to experience changes in the thermal cycle, so before welding, providing preheating treatment with temperatures of 100°C, 150°C, and 200°C, then on the surface of the metal and to increase its hardness, a further process is carried out namely the hard facing process.   Hardfacing is a process where a harder material is applied to a parent material through welding. The hard-facing method is carried out by melting the HV-600 electrode wire on a plate until it obtains the desired thickness, resulting in a harder microstructural change on the metal surface. This research aims to determine the effect of preheating temperatures of 100°C, 150°C, and 200°C on the physical and mechanical properties of AISI 1040 steel material which is heat faced with HV – 600 electrodes in the Shield Metal Arch Welding process. The tests carried out in the research for physical properties were microstructure, and for mechanical properties were hardness and wear. The results of microstructure research at preheating temperatures of 100°C, 150°C, and 200°C, the magnitudes are 79.52%, 72.01%, and 68.56% respectively and the hardness values are 79.6 HRC, and 78 HRC respectively. and 75 HRC while the wear values are 0.0000587 m3/kg.m, 0.0000873 m3/kg.m and 0.0000917 m3/kg.m. From the results of this research, the optimum hardness and wear values are hard-facing with the preheating temperature of 100°C.
