Abstract

Locus of Control (LoC) is an individual's perception of the sources that control events in their lives, which are divided into two main categories: internal and external. Individuals with internal LoC tend to have higher performance because they believe that success is influenced by their own efforts and abilities, while individuals with external LoC believe that the results of their actions are more influenced by external factors that are beyond their control, such as fate, luck, situations, or the power of others. This study aims to examine the effect of Locus of Control, responsibility, and job knowledge on organizational commitment with work motivation as an intervening variable at Universitas Batam. The research method used is a causal model survey with path analysis techniques. The study population was 90 employees of Universitas Batam with census techniques. The results showed that Locus of Control had a significant effect on employee performance. These findings provide strategic recommendations for Universitas Batam in increasing organizational commitment through a deeper understanding of internal factors such as work motivation.

Abstract

The establishment of the ex-officio position in Batam, as mandated by Government Regulation Number 62 of 2019, created a unique governance structure in the Batam Business Board, held by the Mayor of Batam. This research investigates the impact of this governance model on economic growth and its potential influence on employee job satisfaction within the framework of the Batam Free Trade Zone and Free Port. Utilizing a mixed-method approach, the study encompasses both quantitative analysis using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) via PLS software and qualitative insights through Resource Interviews. A total population of 444 was considered, with a sample of 221 respondents derived using the Slovin formula. Findings from the research demonstrate a substantial joint or simultaneous influence of the variables Ex Officio Leadership, Organizational Culture, Loyalty, and Organizational Commitment on Job Satisfaction. The study highlights the significant role of Ex Officio Leadership in shaping economic outcomes and employee satisfaction in Batam, proposing that such governance models could help reconcile the operational dualities between government and business entities in the region.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine and analyze the influence of career development, work environment and self-efficacy on organizational commitment with job satisfaction as an intervening variable at Bank Riau Kepri Syariah in Batam City. Data were collected using a questionnaire and distributed to 142 respondents. Statistical data analysis uses SEM-PLS (structural equation modeling partial least squares) and uses path analysis to test relationship patterns that reveal the influence of variables on other variables, both direct and indirect. The research results show that career development directly has a positive and significant effect on organizational commitment, but not significantly on job satisfaction. The work environment directly has a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction, but not significantly on organizational commitment. Self-efficacy directly has a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Job satisfaction directly has a positive and significant effect on organizational commitment, but does not mediate the effect of career development on organizational commitment. Job satisfaction mediates the influence of the work environment and self-efficacy on organizational commitment.

Abstract

Supervision aims to assist all management in carrying out their responsibilities effectively by carrying out analysis, assessment, recommendations and submitting reports on the activities being audited. Based on the Summary of Semester Audit Results (IHPS) I of 2023, 5,628 SPI weakness problems were revealed, including 1,695 (30%) problems of weaknesses in the accounting and reporting control system, 2,974 (53%) problems of weaknesses in the budget implementation control system, and 959 (17%) problems of weaknesses in the internal control structure. A total of 7,227 non-compliance problems that have a financial impact include non-compliance problems that can result in losses of 3,520 problems amounting to IDR1.73 trillion, potential losses of 671 of IDR381.11 billion, and revenue shortfalls of 1,015 problems amounting to IDR960.11 billion. The above phenomenon indicates that the internal supervision function in the public sector is not yet effective. Internal Supervision Performance is very instrumental for the implementation of regional government. The Government Internal Supervisory Apparatus (APIP) does not have sufficient integrity and capability, the supervisory apparatus is not truly independent, and the need for the number of supervisory apparatus personnel has not been met. This study aims to test the influence of institutional position, role ambiguity and role conflict on Internal Supervisory Performance at the Regional Inspectorate throughout the Riau Islands Province by making the independence of the Government Internal Supervisory Apparatus as an intervening variable. The design of this study is quantitative research, using a mixed method, namely a questionnaire and supporting theories. The data analysis technique uses the Partial Least Square (PLS) approach to test the two hypotheses proposed in this study. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the Institutional Position variable has a significant positive effect on the Independence of the Government Internal Supervisory Apparatus (APIP), Internal escort performance at the Regional Inspectorate throughout the Riau Islands Province, while through the independence of Internal Supervisory Performance it has a positive but insignificant effect. The Role Ambiguity variable has a positive but insignificant effect on the APIP Independence variable, Internal Supervisory Performance. The Role Conflict variable has a positive but insignificant effect on the Internal Supervisory Performance variable. The APIP Independence variable has a significant positive effect on the Internal Supervisory Performance variable.

Abstract

This study investigates the transformation of employee performance within Indonesia’s immigration sector, focusing on the Riau Islands Province, Indonesia. It examines how transformational leadership, organizational culture, and innovation interact within bureaucratic settings to inform evolving models of public-sector performance. A mixed-method Sequential Explanatory Design is employed, integrating structural equation modelling (LISREL; n = 247) with qualitative analysis via NVivo 12 Plus. Results reveal that transformational leadership and digital innovation exert a significant positive influence on employee performance, while motivational and trust-related factors enhance service effectiveness. These findings contribute to the evolving discourse on leadership and performance in high-stakes bureaucratic contexts, particularly within border governance. The study underscores the critical role of leadership in driving adaptive capabilities and cultural alignment within complex government institutions. For policy makers and public-sector managers, the results offer actionable insight into developing more responsive, accountable, and innovation-ready immigration services in peripheral and strategic regions.
