Abstract

The research was conducted on two Real Story FTV titles entitled "My Wife Is Like a Loaner Sucking My Money" and "My Feelings Are Being Played by My Husband". The research objective was to find out how gender is represented in Real Story FTV. This study uses a qualitative approach, with the method of critical discourse analysis model of Norman Fairclough. The analysis was divided into three stages, but the ones used in this study only reached the Text analysis stage (Micro level). The results of the study concluded that gender representation in the two FTV titles Real Stories is represented unequally, and causes gender bias. Many women are labeled as materialistic, money-crazed, usurpers, and men are labeled as someone who is unfaithful. The conclusion is that the media, through the FTV TV Show Real Stories, still represents gender unfairly, causing gender bias among the public to be difficult to eliminate.

Abstract

The policy of temporarily closing educational institutions to hold the spread of COVID-19 in Indonesia impacts the learning process being replaced by a learning system using online media application features. Implementation of the distance learning system (PJJ) has various obstacles, including infrastructure, human resources, and the learning process. This study examines communication patterns in the PJJ process. The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative with a population of 13,539 students of the Bandung Islamic University in 2021; 389 people are sampled using the Slovin formula. The study results show that 1) The obstacles of PJJ include infrastructure, system, and lecture climate problems. 2) The solution that must be done in terms of infrastructure is that the students need to prepare backup providers, while in terms of materials, students need to look for additional references from other sources. 3) dependence on internet access can affect financially, which can be burdensome for educators and students. 4) The combination of offline and online learning is considered efficient. However, face-to-face learning is more desirable 5) From a media perspective, Zoom Meeting is a media that is often used. The Moodle e-learning lecture system is widely used, including Google Meet, Google Classroom, and Google Drive. 6) The material in the PJJ process is considered adequate. 7) Online multiple-choice questions in quiz systems dominate the exam system, google forms, and even essay types or a take-home exam. However, there are still a few offline projects and exams.

Abstract

Background: The development process of digital literacy is gradual and significantly influenced by parenting style. How parents raise their children significantly impacts how well-trained adolescents are in media-related behaviour. Purpose: The study aims to examine the relationship between the digital literacy levels of adolescent - students at the Faculty of Communication Science, Universitas Islam Bandung - and the parenting styles they experience within their families. Methods: This research employed a quantitative approach within the positivistic paradigm. It involved a sample of 120 students. Results: This study revealed that adolescents from families with authoritative parenting styles exhibited higher levels of digital literacy than those from authoritarian, permissive and neglectful families. Meanwhile, adolescents from neglectful family backgrounds demonstrated the lowest degree of digital literacy. These findings provide a foundation for developing adolescent digital literacy and, consequently, promoting cyber wellness by achieving a balance between online and offline life. Conclusion: This research indicated no significant relationship between parenting style and students’ digital literacy at the Faculty of Communication, Universitas Islam Bandung. Implications: Nevertheless, it is worth noting that students raised within a family with an authoritative parenting style tend to exhibit higher digital literacy abilities, although the difference is not statistically significant. This study also introduces a comparative theory, highlighting the contrast between students, who are digital natives, and their parents, who can be considered digital immigrants.

Abstract

The prolonged conflict between Israel and Palestine has produced various narratives and slogans that reflect aspirations, demands, and resistance, one of which is the phrase “From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will be Free.” This slogan is known to have strong political appeal because it holds an explicit message related to Palestinian independence aspirations. From a communication science perspective, it is important to understand how this phrase constructs and communicates meaning and how it is received among diverse audiences. This research aims to analyze the slogan through the perspective of political communication, framing theory, and social identity theory, in order to examine its impact and communication implications in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The research method uses a qualitative approach with literature study as the main method. Data collection is done through documentation techniques on various written sources, which are then analyzed through three steps, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that the phrase “From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will be Free” is often used in the pro-Palestinian movement as a symbol of freedom aspirations, and serves as an effective communication tool to build identity, mobilize solidarity, and influence public perception regarding complex political issues. The conclusion of this study confirms that the slogan has an important role in shaping political narratives and creating a significant communication impact in the dynamics of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
