Abstract

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) equips educators with the tools to integrate sustainability into teaching, focusing on themes such as disaster risk reduction, biodiversity, poverty alleviation, and sustainable consumption. This study investigates the implementation of ESD in research-based lectures, evaluating students' understanding, ability to develop research plans, and articulation of findings in academic articles. A descriptive survey approach was employed, using observational data collection during student research activities, documentation of research outputs, and student interviews. The study involved 85 Islamic Religious Education students at Muhammadiyah University Jakarta enrolled in a learning strategies course. Data were analyzed through triangulation of observations, interviews, and documented outputs. Students demonstrated competency in conducting ESD-focused research, as evidenced by their article preparation and group research outputs. Key indicators of success included the quality and depth of articles, meticulousness in material preparation, and active student involvement in group-based research activities. The integration of ESD into research-based learning fosters critical skills in sustainability research and academic communication. These findings suggest that structured, research-oriented pedagogical models enhance students' ability to engage with and contribute to sustainability goals. Research-based learning models in higher education effectively develop students' ESD competencies, including research planning and academic writing. The study highlights the potential of such models to prepare students as contributors to sustainability-oriented education and research.

Abstract

Contemporary education emphasizes the comprehensive development of students’ potential, extending beyond academic achievement to include diverse talents, interests, and intellectual capacities. This paradigm aligns with Howard Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelligences, which asserts that each individual possesses a unique configuration of intelligences that must be systematically identified and nurtured. Within the framework of Islamic education, such holistic development reflects the concept of insān kāmil, a well-balanced individual who grows harmoniously in intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and social dimensions. Therefore, schools are required to design structured programs that move beyond cognitively oriented instruction and provide opportunities for students to explore and actualize their multiple intelligences. This study aims to analyze the implementation of a talent development program in supporting students’ Multiple Intelligences at SMP Muhammadiyah 8 Jakarta, focusing on planning, implementation, and evaluation from a school management perspective. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis involving school leaders, teachers, students, and parents. The findings indicate that the program is designed through initial potential assessments, flexible curriculum planning, and collaboration with professional trainers. Implementation emphasizes personalized and sustainable development of multiple intelligences, while evaluation is conducted comprehensively, covering cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. The study concludes that the Multiple Intelligences-based talent program effectively optimizes students’ holistic development and supports the school’s vision of nurturing academically competent and morally grounded generations.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to investigate the outcomes of analyzing the educational systems in Indonesia, specifically focusing on Islamic and general education. The literature study approach incorporates a total of 13 sources from books and 33 sources from scientific journals. These sources are utilized to gather data, which is subsequently evaluated in accordance with up-to-date information. The research methodology employed is qualitative. The research findings indicate that the establishment of dualism in Islamic education in Indonesia is a result of the coexistence of Islamic education and general education, which is impacted by the Indonesian political system. The emergence of dualism in Islamic education in Indonesia can be attributed to the presence of a parallel system for implementing educational concepts, particularly in the realms of religious education and general education. The implementation of general education and Islamic education is consistently conducted in accordance with their respective areas of emphasis, regardless of their location. The results of this study suggest that educational policymakers might assess the integration of dualism in Islamic and general education in order to effectively utilize both systems by connecting their knowledge.
