Abstract

Digital learning transformation has created significant opportunities for developing instructional media that support students’ metacognitive abilities, particularly in the Indonesian Language Education Study Program. This study aims to identify students’ preferences of digital learning media and their impact on learning habits and comprehension gaps. This research employed a mixed-method approach with a sequential explanatory design, involving 123 Indonesian Language Education students from various semesters. Data were collected through quantitative surveys and In-Depth Interviews (IDI) to gain deeper insights. The results revealed that most students preferred digital media (77.24%) over conventional media (22.76%). Visual learning styles dominated (36.59%), with video platforms being the most favoured (32.52%). Correlation analysis showed a significant relationship between the frequency of digital media use and the reduction of comprehension gaps (r = 0.181; p = 0.046), although it was not significant for learning habits. The result of IDI highlights the need for collaborative features, gamification, better journal access, and more relevant support for Indonesian language learning. Data triangulation confirmed that digital media preferences contribute to reducing comprehension gaps, although they do not fully influence learning habits. This study recommends developing interactive and contextual digital learning media by integrating features that support active, collaborative, and based on local culture to strengthen students’ understanding in Indonesian language courses.

Abstract

Pembelajaran apresiasi cerpen di SMP masih berorientasi pada analisis unsur intrinsik sehingga keterlibatan emosional dan interpretatif siswa masih belum optimal. Pemanfaatan teks cerpen sebagai materi autentik diperlukan untuk menghadirkan pembelajaran yang kontekstual dan bermakna guna meningkatkan kualitas apresiasi cerpen siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis efektivitas penggunaan teks cerpen sebagai materi autentik dalam meningkatkan kemampuan apresiasi cerpen siswa SMP melalui pengukuran perbedaan hasil belajar antara kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol berdasarkan analisis statistik kuantitatif. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain quasi experiment nonequivalent control group. Sampel terdiri atas kelas eksperimen dan kontrol yang dipilih secara purposive. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes pretest–posttest dan lembar observasi. Analisis data meliputi uji normalitas, homogenitas, uji t independen, serta perhitungan effect size. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata skor posttest kelas eksperimen lebih tinggi dibandingkan kelas kontrol. Uji t independen mengindikasikan perbedaan signifikan antara kedua kelompok (p < 0,05). Nilai effect size berada pada kategori kuat, sehingga penggunaan teks cerpen sebagai materi autentik terbukti efektif meningkatkan apresiasi cerpen siswa. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, penggunaan teks cerpen sebagai materi autentik terbukti efektif meningkatkan kemampuan apresiasi cerpen siswa secara signifikan dibandingkan pembelajaran konvensional. Pendekatan ini memberikan dampak positif terhadap pemahaman interpretatif dan keterlibatan siswa dalam pembelajaran sastra.

Abstract

The teacher has not provided a special method to improve reading skills, the teacher has not measured the students' reading speed and the percentage of understanding of the reading content that the students have achieved, apart from that, the students also think that reading is a very boring lesson Reading is an important skill that can have implications for other literacy skills. However, the average reading ability of SDN 1 Nameng students is still not optimal. The aim of this research is to improve students' reading literacy skills by using the speed reading method on students' science lesson material. The method used in this research is action research which refers to the Kemmis and Mc Taggart model using a spiral system cycle consisting of planning, implementing actions, observation and reflection. The results of class actions in cycle I averaged 72.34% and increased in cycle II with an average of 80.46%. The conclusion of the class action carried out shows that the speed reading method is able to improve students' reading literacy skills in science subject matter
