Abstract

One potential aquaculture commodity that can be developed is Anguilla bicolor. One effort that can be conducted to maximize the life and growth of A. bicolor by manipulating water quality through alkalinity parameters. Alkalinity is a buffer capacity for changing in water pH, and osmotic pressure of water. Alkalinity levelss in culture media can be managed by the addition of calcium carbonate (CaCO3), calcium oxide (CaO), or calcium hydroxide (CaOH) with a certain dose to the culture media. This study aimed to determine the effect of alkalinity on aquaculture media based on the level of oxygen consumption (OC) that related to growth value. This research was conducted with an experimental design using a completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments, namely the addition of CaCO3 to maintenance media with different doses (A, 0 mg/L; B, 50 mg/L; C, 100 mg/L; D, 150 mg/L). The results showed that the treatment B (50 mg / L) showed an OC value (0.15 mgO2/g/h) and an optimal Growth Rate (GR) (3.75 g/day), while the Survival Rate (SR) parameter, the treatment had no significant effect. The conclusion was 50 mg/L of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) having the optimum alkalinity level in A. bicolor culture media. At the additional dose of CaCO3, the growth value (GR), and the level of eel fish oxygen consumption were optimal.

Abstract

Eel (Anguilla bicolor bicolor) rearing activities that develop in Indonesia generally still use a large volume of water. The application of a recirculation system reduces water requirements and at a small volume of water, the load on the container to accommodate water becomes lighter so that several containers can be arranged vertically. This study aims to determine the best water volume in eel rearing with a recirculation system on production performance. This study used a completely randomized design with four treatments and three replications. The treatments, namely the difference in the volume of water (VA) used in the maintenance container, included VA 2.5 L (A), VA 3.5 L (B), VA 4.8 L (C) and VA 5.8 L (D). Eels were reared for 60 days in an aquaverticulture system with a stocking density of 10 fish per container. The test parameters in this study included survival rate (SR), specific growth rate (LPS), absolute weight growth (PBM) and feed conversion (FCR) and coefficient of final weight diversity (KKb). Other parameters analyzed include water and land use analysis. The results showed that aquaverticulture with multilevel containers on eel produced the best water volume of 5.8 L with high production performance (100% survival, specific growth rate 1.60%/day). The volume of water needed to produce 1 kg of eel for 1 year is 27.69 liters and the productivity of aquaculture land is 86.14 kg/m2. During the COVID-19 pandemic, this system design has been applied on a laboratory scale, but has not been applied commercially in the community.

Abstract

Water quality improvement was carried out by means of recirculation and bioremediation systems in grouper nurseries with high stocking density, thereby increasing production performance. The goal of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of aquabusiness by analyzing the rise in grouper nursery stocking density using RAS and bioremediation systems. The test parameters consist of production performance, blood glucose levels, physic-chemistry-biology of water quality, and business efficiency based on productivity and business analysis. Treatment of 1,000 fish/m3 increased survival, blood glucose levels, total bacteria, Vibrio spp., ammonia, nitrite, and all productivity parameters. But it lowers all growth parameters, pH, and dissolved oxygen values. The recirculation system with bioremediation at up to 1,000 fish/m3 of stocking boosted the profit by 2.64 times. and 14.97% more efficient than 500 fish/m3 which could not be matched by the high production performance.

Abstract

Abstract

Farming mud crabs (Scylla serrata) in Indonesia generally use seeds from natural habitats, which are caught, held, and transported dry to the farming location. The crabs are held for several days while waiting for consumers. This study analyzed the impact of pre-transport holding times (one, three, and five days) with four replications and an average initial weight of 73.60 ± 12.53 g on the physiological condition and production performance of farming mud crabs in an apartment system. The crabs were transported dry from Muara Gembong, Bekasi Regency, West Java, to the IPB Fisheries and Marine Observation Station (IFMOS) Ancol, North Jakarta, DKI Jakarta, for three hours. The crabs were farming in apartment boxes with a recirculation system for 14 days. The results showed that the crabs experienced severe gill damage indicated by the lysis of gill cuticles and low survival rates, especially after five days of pre-transport holding. The crabs experienced stress in all treatments, as indicated by high glucose levels above 30 mg/dL. The best survival rate was found in the one-day pre-transport holding time, with a value of 87.50% at the holding location and 95% at the farming location. In conclusion, a one-day pre-transport holding time provides better physiological conditions and production performance for mud crab farming in an apartment system.
