Abstract

The tourism industries on small islands frequently prioritize economic gains, while the environmental consequences of these activities, which include the impact on the ecosystem, are typically overlooked due to insufficient consideration of conservation costs. If this pattern persists, the marine parks in the region may eventually lose their appeal and adversely affect the tourism industry. The Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) program offers a potential avenue for executing conservation fundraising initiatives by leveraging contributions from travelers and tourism enterprises. This study employs a qualitative methodology to analyze public policies pertaining to the implementation of the PES program in Gili Matra. The study concluded that it is feasible to establish PES (Payment for Ecosystem Services) programs on Gili Matra through mandatory initiatives, with the aim of fostering a sustainable tourism sector.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract Ciguatera Fish Poisoning (CFP) and the phenomenon of Harmful Algal Bloom (HABs) caused by toxic benthic dinoflagellates are one of the ecological or environmental disasters that can threaten human health in coastal areas of Indonesia, such as in the Gili Matra Aquatic Tourism Park (ATP) area which consists of three islands, namely Gili Meno, Air, and Trawangan. ATP Gili Matra is a center for marine tourism and conservation areas in the West Nusa Tenggara region which is known to be under pressure due to human activities from tourism and fisheries activities that have a negative impact on coastal ecosystems, especially coral reefs. This condition can increase the abundance of toxic benthic dinoflagellate communities that have the potential to cause CFP and HABs in ATP Gili Matra. For this reason, mitigation efforts are needed so the risk of CFP and HABs ecological disasters in the future which can not only cause damage to the ATP Gili Matra aquatic ecosystem, but also significant economic losses, does not occur. According to economic calculations by experts, the economic value of tourism activities in ATP Gili Matra reaches IDR 26.86 trillion per year. One of the efforts to mitigate the ecological disaster of CFP and HABs is to understand the condition of the aquatic environment in ATP Gili Matra during the rainy season. Based on the survey results, it is known that the biophysical and chemical conditions of the aquatic environment during the rainy season in December 2022 and March 2024 are in very good condition with the level of eutrophication as an indicator of the quality of the aquatic environment at the ultraoligotrophic level with a TSI (Trophic State Index) score of 12.9-19.4 (<30) which indicates that water fertility is very low, the water is clear, the concentration of dissolved oxygen is high throughout the year and reaches the hypolimnion zone.

Abstract

Pancor Kopong Water Tourism Object has a natural attraction in the form of a bathing pool surrounded by rice fields, with great potential for development. This study aims to analyze the magnitude of visitors' Willingness to Pay (WTP) towards the development of tourism facilities using a quantitative approach with a descriptive survey method. A sample of 99 respondents aged 16–35 years was selected purposively. The analysis techniques used include classical assumption tests, descriptive analysis, the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM), and multiple linear regression. The results showed an average WTP value of IDR 2,444, with a total estimated annual contribution reaching IDR 48,097,920. Of the five variables analyzed (age, gender, education, income, and duration of visit), only income had a significant effect on WTP. This finding confirms that economic factors are the main determinant of visitors' willingness to pay. This study recommends the need for participation-based tourism development and further studies with a wider range of locations and variables.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the dynamics of micro-enterprises within the tourism ecosystem during periods of tourist decline and to identify the main causes of such downturns at Cemara Beach, Lembar Selatan Village, West Lombok Regency. A qualitative approach was employed, using data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. Content analysis was utilized to identify key themes and patterns from the collected data. The findings reveal that the decline in tourism was primarily driven by poor infrastructure, inadequate promotional efforts, limited supporting facilities, and weak synergy between the government and local communities. This decline has directly impacted micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), leading to reduced revenue, downsizing of operations, and business closures. Nevertheless, several MSME actors demonstrated resilience by diversifying their products, utilizing social media for marketing, and initiating informal collaborations with fellow entrepreneurs.

Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the efforts of the Village Government of Kembang Kuning, Sikur District, East Lombok Regency in increasing Village Original Revenue (PADes) through the development of village tourism. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results show that the village government has optimally utilized the potential of natural and cultural tourism by involving the community, strengthening village institutions such as the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) and Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDes), and developing digital promotion and homestay services. A participatory approach in planning and tourism management has been key to maintaining the sustainability of the program. However, several challenges remain, such as inadequate infrastructure, the suboptimal function of BUMDes Mart, limited tourism facilities, minimal direct involvement of the village government in the field, and the absence of a formal retribution system for local business actors. Therefore, institutional strengthening, infrastructure improvement, and more professional and inclusive tourism management are needed to ensure a sustainable increase in PADes contributions from the tourism sector.
