Abstract

Madurese traditional clothing is a rich cultural heritage from the island of Madura, Indonesia, which not only reflects the identity of the community, but also the social and cultural values passed down from generation to generation. These clothes, which are generally made from brightly colored fabrics with unique motifs, play an important role in various traditional events and cultural celebrations. This research aims to explore the history, social meaning and development of pesana clothes in a modern context. The research method uses a qualitative approach with observation techniques, semi-structured interviews, and documentation to analyze the symbolic meaning of this traditional clothing. The research results show that ordered clothes not only function as cultural identity, but also contain deep meaning related to the character of the Madurese people. Each design element, such as color and motif, has a certain symbolism that reflects boldness and simplicity. In addition, ordered clothes are often worn at formal events and reflect the social status of the wearer. The transformation of the pesana shirt in a social and economic context shows its adaptability while still maintaining traditional values. It is hoped that this research can encourage the younger generation to preserve the rich culture of Madura in the modern era.

Abstract

This study analyzes the competing interests within the Kartu Petani Berjaya (KPB) policy as part of efforts to promote sustainable community-based agricultural development in Lampung Province. The KPB program was launched with the goal of improving farmers' welfare through digitally integrated agricultural services. However, initial observations indicate resistance from some farmers and signs of political interest dominance in both the formulation and implementation processes. The study aims to identify the political motives behind the policy, the sustainability of the program, farmers' literacy regarding the E-KPB system, and the extent to which the program empowers farmers and engages stakeholders. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with thematic analysis and source triangulation techniques, data were collected through in-depth interviews with academics and government officials, as well as document studies. The findings reveal that the dominance of regional leaders in decision-making has led to a program orientation that is more symbolic and electoral in nature. The dynamics of competing interests emerge both vertically and horizontally, resulting in weak coordination and reduced policy effectiveness. The transition from KPB to E-KPB has also shifted the program’s focus and reduced its tangible benefits for farmers. The study recommends strengthening multi-stakeholder collaborative governance in agricultural policy, reevaluating the structure of the E-KPB system, and actively involving academics and farmer associations. These findings contribute theoretically to the study of public policy and policy framing, and practically to improving the implementation of programs based on the real needs of farming communities.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to to analyze the role of stakeholders in empowering smallholder farmers in Kotabumi Utara District, North Lampung Regency. The research used a qualitative descriptive approach with data collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the empowerment activities involve various stakeholders such as village governments, agricultural extension workers, universities, MSMEs, and farmer groups. Empowerment is carried out through training, counseling, institutional strengthening, and development of farming businesses. However, challenges remain, including limited capital, weak community response, and low education levels of smallholder farmers. Therefore, stronger synergy among stakeholders is needed to support sustainable empowerment of smallholder farmers.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the level of use of combine harvesters and the factors that influence it. The research location was chosen deliberately, namely in Negeri Katon District which received assistance from 3 combine harvester units. The respondents in this study were 53 farmers from 3 farmer groups who received combine harvester assistance. The data collected was analyzed using descriptive analysis and the Kendall tau statistical test. The results of the research show that the level of use of combine harvesters on the indicators of plant condition requirements shows a good category, where farmers harvest rice when it reaches the optimum age. The indicator for plant condition requirements shows a fairly good category, where farmers harvest when the land is dry, but farmers never confirm whether the land conditions are dangerous and can damage machinery. The machine application indicator shows the poor category, where the intensity of farmers using combine harvester machines is 3 - 4 times in 5 harvest seasons, and farmers are still less skilled in operating combine harvesters. Factors related to the use of combine harvesters by farmers are land area, relative profit, compatibility, complexity, trialability, observability, and the role of farm extension workers. Keywords: Compatibility, Complexity, extension workers, Observability, Relative profit.

Abstract

Shallot is one of important horticultural crops in Indonesia; shallot consumption per capita is estimated to be 4.6 kg per year. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of combining biofertilizer and organic fertilizer on the production of shallot in Sukabanjar village, Pesawaran, Lampung, Indonesia. The study was set up using a randomized completely block design with two factors, biofertilizers and various organic fertilizers, i.e. cow manure, chicken manure, rice straw compost, oyster mushroom baglog. Our study demonstrated that combining biofertilizer and organic fertilizer significantly increased the number, diameter, and fresh and dry weight of tubers of “Bima Brebes” shallot. Shallots treated with biofertilizer combined with oyster mushroom baglog produced the highest tuber yield of 1788 g compared to 282 g in the control.

Abstract

Fruit quality is an important aspect that requires attention and more study when it comes to commercializing tropical fruits, including guava ‘Kristal’. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of bagging treatment and altitude of growing orchard on fruit quality of guava (Psidium guajava var. ‘Kristal’). This study was conducted at two local orchards managed by small-scale farmers, at Gunung Batu (1000 meters above sea level, m asl) and Brajaselebah (25 m asl), Lampung Province, Indonesia. A nested design was applied to test 5 types of bagging treatments and 2 levels of land altitude. Fruit quality was assessed by measuring both physical and chemical characteristics. Fruit size indicated by fruit weight and diameter was significantly larger in lowland compared to highland. The total soluble solids (TSS) were significantly higher in the lowland compared to the highland, while titratable acid (TA) showed an opposite result. Vitamin C of the fruits varied from140 to 146 mg per 100 g. Different types of fruit bagging and land altitudes did not affect the physical and chemical characteristics of “Kristal” guava fruits. Fruit scar intensity was higher in lowland, especially in fruit without bagging. Fruit bagging is highly recommended for farmers due to the success of this treatment to reduce fruit scar intensity, thus resulting in good fruit quality, irrespective of the growing locations.
