Abstract

A family is the first place that impacts various elements of children's growth and development, especially their social growth. Procedures and conditions in the family are suitable environments for social children. Purposing to analyze the role of Muslim parents of the Minahasa Tribe in Tomohon, Manado, Indonesia, in educating children's morals in Islamic minority communities with a local cultural approach, this research uses phenomenological study methods with a qualitative approach. Researchers found that local culture-based moral education in the formation of children's character/morals in Tomohon became one of the concerns of more than the government and even the community and parents to be able to maintain and preserve a valuable character education process from ancient times so that the current generation can understand the value of manners, mutual respect, respect for parents is critical to forming attitudes and moral. Moral education based on local cultural values in the formation of children's character/morals in Tomohon has a very drastic value from parents past and present to educate their children. It makes children open to each other; they consider their parents as friends when discussing problems in the family.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the impact of compassion-based education on the psychological development of children in orphanages. This research uses a type of field study research with a qualitative approach. This research was located at the Putri 'Aisyiah Orphanage Yogyakarta. Research data were obtained from observations, interviews, and required documents with 3 informants, namely the management of the panti, the foster parents, and musrifah. The collection of research data was carried out In the first stage, the selection of the location of the orphanage and the identification of the main participants, caretakers, foster parents, and musrifah. Data collection was conducted through three main methods: in-depth interviews, observation, and analysis of documents such as caregiver diaries and child development reports. The next stage is the data coding process, where the collected data is transcribed and encoded thematically. Each data segment is categorized based on indicators of compassion, such as emotional attention, psychological support, positive interactions, and fulfillment of basic needs. Next, thematic analysis is conducted to find patterns and relationships between themes. These findings were verified through data triangulation by comparing results from interviews, observations, and document analysis. This process ensures consistency and increases the validity of findings at the final stage, interpretation, and conclusion. The thematic analysis results were interpreted to assess the effectiveness of compassion education in orphanages. The conclusion shows that children who still struggle to obey the rules and daily activities in the orphanage have successfully implemented compassion education. There needs to be a more comprehensive understanding of foster parents so that children in orphanages can grow up psychologically healthy.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of developing the Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK) curriculum in Muhammadiyah schools, which should not only focus on cognitive aspects but also on shaping social attitudes, mutual respect, and Islamic brotherhood. This research aims to explore the implementation of humanistic theory, particularly the ideas of Carl R. Rogers, in developing the AIK curriculum in Muhammadiyah schools in Yogyakarta. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with an ethnomethodological method. Data were collected through interviews with AIK teachers who applied humanistic theory in the classroom and observations of teaching practices within the school environment. The findings reveal that AIK teachers in Yogyakarta have generally implemented a humanistic approach by providing role models, fostering social concern, and guiding students personally to prevent them from engaging in negative behaviors. The focus of learning is not limited to knowledge transfer but also emphasizes the development of students’ social and moral potential. In conclusion, applying humanistic theory in the AIK curriculum has proven effective in creating a humanistic learning climate, strengthening Islamic character, and enhancing students’ social awareness in Muhammadiyah schools. The implication of this study highlights the need for continuous teacher training in applying a humanistic approach. Further research is recommended to conduct comparative studies across different educational levels or to expand the number of respondents to enrich the findings.
