Abstract

Monkeypox disease (monkey smallpox) is a disease that has never been found in Indonesia since it was first discovered in humans in the Congo in 1970. So if there is one positive confirmed event, then the disease is an Extraordinary Event (KLB). This disease has become a global concern because since May 13, 2022, WHO has received reports of Monkeypox cases from non-endemic countries. It has expanded to 4 WHO regions: Europe, America, Eastern Mediterranean, and Western Pacific. Until now, further investigations and studies are still being carried out to understand more about the epidemiology, sources of infection, and transmission patterns in non-endemic countries that have reported new cases, such as Indonesia. Until now, no specific treatment has been proven to treat Monkeypox infection. Currently, the therapy used is symptomatic support. The antiviral tecovirimat, or TPOXX, developed by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) as a Monkeypox therapy in 2022 based on research, has not been marketed freely. In addition, antivirals such as cidofovir and brincidofovir have been shown to be effective against orthopox virus in vitro and in animal studies. However, the effectiveness of this drug against monkeypox in humans is not yet known. However, this disease can be prevented by vaccination. In Indonesia, the Modified Vaccinia Ankara-Bavarian Nordic (MVA-BN) vaccine is recommended to prevent Monkeypox disease. The existence of the outbreak report is important to discuss, explore, and understand more about the disease and its management and prevention.

Abstract

Use of masks is mandatory to prevent the transmission of COVID-19. Appropriate masks that match the face size is very important to avoid leakage. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between bizygomatic and bigonial breadth with the suitability of surgical masks. It was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design conducted at the Occupational Medicine Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Trisakti, Jakarta during March to April 2021. A total 132 employees of Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Trisakti aged from 20 to 64 y.o. who meet the inclusion and exclusion criteria participated in this study. No significantly difference in age (p=0.248) and body mass index (BMI) (p=0.226) was observed. However, there was a significantly difference in bizygomatic width (p=0.000) and bigonial width (p=0.001) between men and women. The use of appropriate surgical masks was observed in 89 respondents, but not suitable for 43 respondents. There was no significantly difference between BMI, bizygomatic width and bigonial width with the suitability of surgical masks. However, old age was significantly more appropriate for using surgical masks than young people. In conclusion, BMI, bizygomatic width, and bigonial width are not substantially different with the suitability of surgical masks. However, older age is more suitable for employing surgical masks than younger age.

Abstract

Abstract

Menopause is one of the most important physiological stages in a woman's life; it is a complex process involving the endocrine system and regulating neurological functions. Increasing age is associated with decreased cognitive function. Low estrogen levels after menopause accelerate the process of cognitive decline, and Estrogen plays an important role in vasodilating and anti-inflammatory functions and plays a protective function in the prevalence of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD). Subclinical atherosclerosis is a potential risk factor for impaired cognitive function and dementia in the elderly. The decrease in cerebral blood flow (CBF) due to turbulence that occurs in the sclerotic area and accelerated brain atrophy due to reduced blood supply is evidenced by the results of research that patients who do not clinically show cerebrovascular disease can experience decreased cognitive function due to severe stenosis of the carotid arteries. Assessment of carotid intimal–medial thickness (cIMT) is a non-invasive test to measure atherosclerosis and is widely used to screen for risk factors for cerebrovascular disease. CIMT was measured using ultrasound as a marker of atherosclerosis. CIMT can directly provide an image of blood vessels, allowing for assessing atherosclerosis rather than vessel lumen. Decreased cognitive function has a significant relationship with carotid artery stenosis so CIMT can be used as a predictor of cognitive decline in the elderly, especially in postmenopausal women. Various existing studies confirm a significant relationship between cIMT thickening and cognitive decline. Keywords :Carotid Intima – Media Thickness (CIMT), Cognitive Function, Menopause

Abstract

Coronaviruses are a big identified group of viruses that could result in sickness in humans and animals. It was confirmed that many of these viruses caused respiratory diseases among humans and their symptoms range from popular colds to more serious diseases, such as the Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS) and severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). The recently detected Coronavirus (called SARS-CoV-2) causes the COVID-19 pandemic, which causes a serious threat worldwide. There was no previous knowledge of this virus before the outbreak of Wuhan city in China in December 2019. However, there is progress in defining, understanding and dealing with this virus. In this review, we are focusing on the common questions regarding coronavirus transition and spread, and how to prevent the infection.

Abstract

Despite the significant global burden of COVID-19, the current pandemic has resulted in unprecedented economic hardship. When various business fields are trying to reopen during the present coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, industrial hygiene (IH), occupational health and safety (K3) are being challenged to be able to assess and manage COVID-19 risks in the workplace. In general, many measures have been designed to control workplace hazards; however, efforts to adapt them specifically to prevent infectious disease outbreaks are still limited. All employers should remain alert and informed about changing outbreak conditions, including the spread of the virus in the community and the availability of testing, and implement appropriate infection prevention and control measures. For this reason, the government and employers need to prepare workers to return to work safely and safely with preventive measures to help reduce the transmission of the virus, especially in the workplace.

Abstract

Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae)is a common microorganism for different infections, including respiratory, urinary tract, and biliary diseases, where immunocompromised individuals are directly affected by this bacterium. However, with the emergence of hypervirulent strains, individuals, whether healthy or immunocompetent, are equally susceptible to K. pneumoniae infections. This problem is diagnosed by the wide spreading of multidrug-resistant bacteria in the environment with multiple resistance mechanisms, which are the main challenges for an effective treatment. This put physicians in an inflexible confusion because of the limitation of medical treatment options. Among many remedy substances, zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs) showed remarkable antibacterial properties versus many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. This work focuses on presenting the influence of these NPs on the expression of genes in charged in generating the K. pneumoniae capsule. Furthermore, perspectives for applying ZnO NPs in clinical practices are also discussed. As the in vivo studies show a powerful impact of ZnO on bacteria, it is anticipated that this method of treatment will be utilized by hospitals.
