Abstract

RSKD Dadi Makassar City is one of the referral hospitals in South Sulawesi that handles a large number of patients with mental disorders. This results in the hospital having a fairly high workload, especially in the psychiatric inpatient unit. Based on initial observations and interviews, it was found that during one night shift, only two nurses had to handle up to 60 patients. This condition clearly illustrates the imbalance between the number of medical personnel and the workload they must bear. The high demands from patients' families and the complexity of handling psychiatric patients make nurses at RSKD Dadi have a high risk of experiencing work stress and mental fatigue. The purpose of this study was to understand the factors that influence the mental health of nurses in the inpatient (psychiatric) room of the Dadi Regional Special Hospital (RSKD) of South Sulawesi Province, Makassar City, in 2025. The research design is a cross-sectional study; this study is a quantitative study with a descriptive approach. Using the Slovin formula, a population of 100 nurses was determined to be 80, with 80 serving as the research sample. This data analysis used a multiple logistic regression. The results of multiple logistic regression tests, there is an influence between work stress on mental health, namely (p = 0.000 <0.05), there is an influence between workload on mental health, namely (p = 0.045 <0.05), there is no influence between the physical work environment on mental health, namely (p = 0.126 ≥ 0.05), there is no influence of interpersonal relationships on mental health (p = 0.939 ≥ 0.05) on nurses in the inpatient (mental) ward of RSKD Dadi Makassar City. RSKD Dadi Makassar City should immediately evaluate the staffing arrangement, especially in the nursing sector, to address the imbalance between the number of nurses and patients. Moreover, it can develop a similar program, "Kopi Monev," to improve communication among colleagues.

Abstract

Background: Microplastics are a major component of marine debris, andtheir accumulation in aquatic environments can disrupt marine food chains, particularly in fish. Mangindara Village, South Galesong District, TakalarRegency, is a coastal area currently experiencing severe environmentalpollution, especially from plastic waste and household effluents. This condition raises serious concern, as plastic debris can degrade into microplastics that are not visible to the naked eye, enter marine organisms such as fish, and ultimately pose risks to human health. Methods: This study employed an observational design with a descriptive approach and laboratory analysis to examine the presence, types, and abundance of microplastics in Fish kembung (Rastrelliger sp.) and kurisi (Nemipterus nemurus) collected from the waters of Mangindara Village. The study population consisted of fish kembung and kurisi fish captured in the study area. Samples were selected using random sampling, with three individuals from each species analyzed. Results: The results showed that all examined fish samples contained microplastics. The average microplastic concentration in fish kembung was 0.061 g, whereas kurisi fish exhibited a higher average concentration of 0.085 g. The identified microplastics were predominantly line-shaped and appeared in blue, black, and red colors. Conclusion: These findings indicate widespread microplastic contamination in coastal fish species consumed by local communities. Therefore, reducing single-use plastic use and improving proper waste management practices are strongly recommended.

Abstract

Technological advancements have advanced rapidly in the era of globalization, especially in the nickel mining industry. These developments undeniably have both positive and negative impacts. One negative impact is the pollution of liquid waste with hazardous heavy metals, both naturally occurring and artificially produced. Therefore, control is necessary. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of activated charcoal from kumea wood powder in reducing heavy metal levels, especially Cr6+ and Total Cr in wastewater in one of the nickel mining industries in East Luwu Regency. This study used an experimental research design with a pre-test and post-test at two representative sampling locations. The results showed that the higher the concentration of HCl activator, the greater the effectiveness in reducing heavy metal levels. This occurred at an HCl concentration of 0.8 M, but the results were inconsistent: at 1 M, it did not contribute much.

Abstract

Lead is a heavy metal that is often found in shellfish. Increased lead levels in shellfish are also associated with increasing industrialization. The purpose of this study was to determine the QMR and lead (Pb) exposure concentration among shellfish fishermen in the waters of North Galesong. This study is quantitative in nature, using analytical methods with a cross-sectional approach to determine the factors associated with lead (Pb) exposure in fishermen's hair. The research design is descriptive. The research design used is a cross-sectional study. The research sample consisted of 30 coastal fishermen located in the waters of Galesong Takalar. The sampling method used was purposive sampling. This study showed that the results of the chi-square test obtained a value of p= 0.426 > α (0.05), so it can be concluded that there is no significant relationship between body weight and lead concentration from height at high risk and Pb concentration does not meet the requirements in 1 (20.0%) person and height at high risk and Pb concentration meets the requirements in 4 (80.0%) people with a total of 5 (100%). It can be concluded that there is no relationship between nutritional status, there is a relationship between duration of consumption, and there is no relationship between health complaints. It is hoped that fishermen will increase their awareness in efforts to reduce and pay attention to the duration of shellfish consumption to minimize lead exposure.

Abstract

According to the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR), benzene is an organic solvent that is carcinogenic. Benzene can enter the body through the respiratory tract, digestion, and skin contact. The study found no association between work duration and phenol levels (p-value = 0.205), which reassures policymakers that factors beyond exposure time influence benzene absorption. The development of a Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) model aims to identify workplace chemical exposure cases, helping protect workers' health by linking environmental exposure to health risks and predicting benzene concentrations in workers' urine. This study aims to assess phenol levels in workers' urine using the QRA method. The research design is an analytical observational study with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted on motorcycle repair shop workers in Makassar City. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data collection was carried out through surveys using questionnaires, observations, interviews, and laboratory examinations. The results of the study showed that there was no relationship between work period and phenol levels in the urine of workshop workers (p-value = 0.281), nor between exposure duration and phenol levels in the urine of workshop workers (p-value = 0.205). However, there was a relationship between the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and phenol levels in the urine of workshop workers (p-value = 0.000). Therefore, motorcycle workshop workers are expected to comply with the use of PPE while working to minimize the risk of benzene exposure.
