Abstract

Basic education is a crucial stage in human resource development; however, not all students can follow the learning process at the same pace. Slow learners require special approaches to optimally understand the material. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method to examine teachers’ strategies in addressing slow learners in elementary schools. The findings indicate that curriculum modification, the use of engaging learning media, individualized approaches, collaboration with parents and schools, as well as inclusive and flexible classroom management are effective steps to support the success of slow learners. These approaches are expected to create an inclusive and equitable learning environment while enhancing student motivation and learning outcomes.

Abstract

Education plays an important role in shaping the character and intelligence of the younger generation, with discipline as a key value that must be instilled from an early age, especially in elementary schools. Discipline not only maintains order during the teaching and learning process but also shapes students' personalities comprehensively. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach through observation, interviews, and documentation to understand student discipline practices and the role of teachers in instilling this value in the classroom. The results show that discipline significantly contributes to students' academic success and is developed through consistent habituation. The teacher’s role as a behavioral model is crucial in fostering discipline awareness, with strategies involving students in rule-making as well as the implementation of educational rewards and punishments. Conversely, a lack of discipline causes disruptions in the learning process and lowers academic achievement. Therefore, sustainable discipline development involving multiple stakeholders is necessary to create an effective learning environment and strong student character

Abstract

Classroom management is a crucial aspect in primary education that influences the success of the learning process. Teachers as facilitators must create a conducive, orderly classroom environment and be able to encourage active student participation. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach to explore effective classroom management strategies employed by primary school teachers, including physical classroom arrangement, student behavior management, selection of teaching methods, and utilization of educational technology. The results show that adaptive, inclusive, and student-centered classroom management can improve student motivation, discipline, and learning outcomes. Scientific approaches and participatory classroom management are proven effective in enhancing student engagement and interest in learning. Additionally, the use of digital learning media supports a more dynamic classroom management that aligns with current developments. However, challenges such as student diversity and limited resources still need to be addressed through teacher professional development and policy support. Therefore, strengthening teacher capacity and integrating technology are key to successful classroom management in primary schools to improve the quality of basic education.

Abstract

This research investigates the factors contributing to low understanding of environmental degradation among sixth-grade students at SDN 12 Padang Koto Gadang. The study aims to identify internal and external factors affecting students' comprehension of environmental issues within the IPAS (Natural and Social Sciences) curriculum. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with the class teacher, classroom observations, and document analysis of lesson plans and student assessment records. The findings reveal that internal factors include low learning motivation, where students perceive environmental materials as mere memorization tasks, and a significant mismatch between students' kinesthetic-visual learning styles (78%) and the predominantly auditory-lecture teaching methods. External factors encompass conventional teaching approaches dominating 85% of classroom time, limited technological infrastructure, and insufficient interactive learning resources. A paradoxical finding shows that while 70% of students claim environmental concern, only 23% consistently practice eco-friendly behaviors, indicating a substantial gap between cognitive knowledge and behavioral application. The study recommends implementing a hybrid learning model combining Problem-Based Learning with local contexts, utilizing simple nature-based media, and establishing strategic community partnerships. These findings contribute to developing more adaptive and contextual teaching methods aligned with Merdeka Curriculum principles for elementary environmental education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of Civic and Pancasila Education (PPKn) in instilling the spirit of unity and integrity among elementary school (SD) students. Using a qualitative approach through a literature review method, this research examines various scholarly works and relevant studies to develop effective and contextual PPKn learning strategies. The findings reveal that PPKn plays a strategic role in shaping national character through the understanding of national values, legal norms, and national identity. Programs such as “Sahabat Pancasila” serve as successful examples of implementing unity values in real school settings. However, challenges remain, such as the lack of variety in teaching methods and the low level of students' affective engagement. Therefore, recommended strategies include value-based learning models, contextual approaches, and regular teacher training. This research is expected to contribute to the development of character education policies and strengthen the role of PPKn in nurturing a young generation that is patriotic and tolerant.
