Abstract

The presence of anime, in addition to functioning as entertainment, often also reflects social structures through depictions of human reality and social identity, one of which is the anime The Journey. This anime presents a story in the context of Middle Eastern history and culture. This study aims to reveal how human facts and collective subjects are represented as a reflection of social structures in Anime. The research data are in the form of scenes, dialogues, and storylines of the anime film The Journey which was released in June 2021. The data collection technique was carried out using the listening and note taking technique. The results and discussion show that the anime The Journey depicts human facts and collective subjects Arab society through the social structure in the film. Through the genetic structuralism, prove that social structures in anime is not only fictional, but also a reflection of Arab society. This finding supports Lucien Goldmann's theory that literary works and popular culture can reflect social group. This study only focuses on two basic concepts of genetic structuralism, human facts and collective subjects. It is hoped that further research can continue research either with the same or different theories.Keywords – Collective Subject, Genetic Structuralism, Human Facts.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to reveal the signs that exist in the novel in terms of moral values and the form of women's struggle according to the content of the story of a novel by Hanan Al-Shayky entitled Hikayat Zahra. In the story, Zahra represents a woman who lives under social and patriarchal pressures that limit her freedom. Through Zahra's journey, society can reflect on how rigid norms and patriarchy can harm individuals and the importance of a more inclusive, just and humane morality.  The method used in this research is a descriptive qualitative method with the semiotic approach of Charles Sanders Peirce. From the signs that appear in the text, the researcher focuses on explaining the struggle of women and moral values.  The results of the study show that there is a sharp and emotional narrative style, Hanan Al-Shaykh (the novelist) presents a critique of patriarchy and violence, and describes how individuals can be destroyed in an oppressive environment. By describing morality and the form of women's struggle, it is hoped that readers can understand that morality is not something static, but something that develops according to the existing social and cultural situation.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian dalam artikel ini adalah untuk menganalisis representasi ketidakadilan gender dalam film The Exchange menggunakan teori feminisme liberal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami bagaimana identitas perempuan digambarkan dalam film, terutama dalam menghadapi dominasi budaya patriarki di tempat kerja dan lingkungan sosial. Selain itu, penelitian ini menyoroti perjuangan karakter perempuan dalam memperoleh kebebasan individu dan kesetaraan hak, serta mengeksplorasi bagaimana film ini merefleksikan perubahan sosial terkait peran perempuan di masyarakat Timur Tengah. Film The Exchange mengangkat isu ketidakadilan gender yang terefleksi dalam pengalaman perempuan menghadapi dominasi budaya patriarki. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori feminisme liberal untuk menganalisis perjuangan identitas perempuan yang direpresentasikan melalui karakter Farida dan Munira. Metode penelitian kualitatif digunakan untuk menggali data dari dialog, adegan, dan simbol dalam serial tersebut.

Abstract

This research examines the relationship between power and resistance in Layali Alf Laylah, a novel by Najib Mahfouz, through the lens of Foucault's hegemony theory. This qualitative research employs an analytical descriptive approach. The material object analyzed is the novel Layali Alf Laylah, while the formal object is Foucault's hegemony theory, which explores the influence of power on individuals and the emergence of resistance against established power structures. The analytical descriptive method is utilized to examine the text and to identify the various forms of power and resistance mechanisms embedded within the characters and narrative of the novel. The findings indicate that the novel portrays repressive power dynamics while simultaneously presenting resistance against these power structures through both individual and collective actions. Consequently, the novel not only illustrates the existing power relations but also highlights how resistance plays a crucial role in the process of social change. In conclusion, Layali Alf Laylah offers a nuanced depiction of the interplay between power and resistance within a society shaped by dominant power structures. The novel provides critical insight into the complexities of hegemonic influence and the potential for subversion, reinforcing the dynamic nature of societal power relations. This research contributes to the body of knowledge by providing a deeper understanding of the dynamics of power and resistance in literature, demonstrating how Foucault’s theoretical framework can be applied to analyze social structures within fictional narrative. ملخص يهدف هذا البحث إلى تحليل علاقة السلطة والمقاومة في رواية "ليالي ألف ليلة" لنجيب محفوظ باستخدام نظرية الهيمنة لفوكو. يعتمد هذا البحث على المنهج النوعي مع مقاربة وصفية تحليلية. الموضوع المادي الذي يتم تحليله هو رواية "ليالي ألف ليلة"، بينما الموضوع الشكلي هو نظرية الهيمنة لفوكو، مع التركيز على تأثير السلطة على الأفراد وكيفية ظهور المقاومة تجاه الهياكل السلطوية القائمة. يتم استخدام المنهج الوصفي التحليلي لاستكشاف النص وتحديد أشكال السلطة وآليات المقاومة التي تتجلى في الشخصيات وحبكة الرواية. تظهر نتائج البحث أن الرواية تصور ديناميات السلطة التي تتسم بالقمع، لكنها تقدم أيضًا مقاومة للهياكل السلطوية من خلال أفعال الأفراد والجماعات. وبذلك، فإن الرواية لا تكتفي بكشف العلاقات السلطوية القائمة، بل توضح كيف تصبح المقاومة جزءًا من عملية التغيير الاجتماعي. وفي الختام، تُظهر رواية "ليالي ألف ليلة" تمثيلًا معقدًا لتفاعل السلطة والمقاومة في مجتمع يتأثر بهياكل السلطة. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis relasi kuasa dan resistensi dalam Novel Layali Alf Laylah karya Najib Mahfouz dengan menggunakan teori hegemoni Foucault. Jenis penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif analitis. Objek material yang dianalisis adalah Novel Layali Alf Laylah, sedangkan objek formalnya adalah teori hegemoni Foucault, yang berfokus pada pengaruh kuasa terhadap individu dan bagaimana resistensi muncul terhadap struktur kekuasaan yang ada. Metode deskriptif analitis digunakan untuk menggali teks dan mengidentifikasi bentuk-bentuk kuasa serta mekanisme resistensi yang terjalin dalam karakter-karakter dan alur cerita novel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa novel ini menggambarkan dinamika kuasa yang bersifat repressif, namun juga menyajikan perlawanan terhadap struktur kuasa tersebut melalui aksi-aksi individu dan kelompok. Dengan demikian, novel ini tidak hanya mengungkapkan hubungan kuasa yang ada, tetapi juga memperlihatkan bagaimana resistensi menjadi bagian dari proses perubahan sosial. Kesimpulannya, Layali Alf Laylah menyajikan representasi kompleks mengenai interaksi kuasa dan resistensi dalam masyarakat yang dipengaruhi oleh struktur kekuasaan.

Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis fenomena rasisme terhadap etnis Tionghoa dalam film Ngenest, sebuah memoar karya Ernest Prakasa, dengan menggunakan pendekatan strukturalisme genetik Lucien Goldmann. Tujuannya adalah untuk mengungkap bagaimana pengalaman pribadi penulis merefleksikan diskriminasi rasial dan identitas etnis dalam masyarakat Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan analisis deskriptif terhadap isi memoar tersebut, didukung oleh tinjauan literatur yang berkaitan dengan rasisme dan teori strukturalisme genetik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Ngenest merepresentasikan rasisme melalui tiga aspek strukturalisme genetik, yaitu fakta manusia, subjek kolektif, dan pandangan dunia. Fakta manusia dibagi menjadi fakta individu, yang menggambarkan pengalaman pribadi Ernest tentang perundungan dan stereotip rasial, dan fakta sosial, yang menggambarkan diskriminasi sistemik terhadap etnis Tionghoa, seperti kebijakan-kebijakan Orde Baru. Subjek kolektif tercermin dari bagaimana pengalaman individu Ernest merepresentasikan perjuangan kolektif etnis Tionghoa dalam menghadapi diskriminasi sosial. Sementara itu, pandangan dunia dalam memoar tersebut mengekspresikan harapan akan kesetaraan dan kritik terhadap Bhinneka Tunggal Ika yang sering kali hanya menjadi slogan tanpa implementasi yang nyata. Penelitian ini hanya membahas tiga aspek dari strukturalisme genetik Goldmann, tanpa mengeksplorasi aspek dialektika pemahaman dan penjelasannya. Kontribusinya terletak pada pengayaan studi sastra tentang rasisme dengan menunjukkan bagaimana pengalaman pribadi dalam sebuah memoar dapat merefleksikan

Abstract

Tajwid is a discipline that explores the methods of reciting the Qur'an correctly according to established rules. This study aims to explore the essence of Tajwid through ontological, epistemological, and axiological approaches, as well as analyze its significance in the lives of Muslims, encompassing spiritual, social, and educational aspects. This research employed a qualitative method with a literature study approach, examining various authoritative sources in Tajwid, including classical texts and direct instruction from competent teachers. The findings indicate that Tajwid is not merely a technique for reciting the Qur'an, but also possesses a profound spiritual dimension, serving as a means of drawing closer to Allah SWT. Tajwid is learned through diverse sources, with the implementation of varied learning methods, both face-to-face and through online platforms. Although technology has facilitated access to Tajwid learning, this study reveals that the main challenge faced is a lack of public awareness regarding the urgency of Tajwid in worship. Tajwid has an essential role in the life of a Muslim, both from a spiritual perspective and in preserving the tradition of reciting the Qur'an correctly. Therefore, enhancing the understanding and practice of Tajwid is imperative in order to maintain the authenticity of the meaning of the Qur'an and optimize the quality of worship for Muslims.

Abstract

Arabic linguistics is a branch of science that focuses on the study of Arabic from various fields, namely phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics. Since classical times, Muslim scholars have developed linguistic theories that have contributed greatly to understanding the structure of the Arabic language. In its further development, Arabic linguistics began to interact with modern linguistic approaches, which offer more systematic and comprehensive analysis methods. Modern linguistics, which includes various branches such as structuralism, sociolinguistics, psycholinguistics, and discourse analysis, provides a new perspective in understanding Arabic, both in theoretical and applied aspects. The influence of this modern approach not only enriches the study of Arabic linguistics, but also supports the development of language technology, translation, and Arabic language learning for foreign speakers. This article aims to examine the development of Arabic linguistics from traditional to modern perspectives and to explore the scope of modern linguistics that has an impact on Arabic language studies in the contemporary era. Through a descriptive and analytical approach, this article identifies the role of modern linguistics in expanding the scope of Arabic language studies, resulting in a deeper understanding of the structure and function of the language in various contexts.

Abstract

This study examines to analyze the framing of news coverage regarding the death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi in two Middle Eastern online media outlets: Alarabiya.net and Aljazeera.net, using Robert N. Entman's framing model. Specifically, the study explores how each media outlet frames Raisi's death through four framing elements: problem definition, causal interpretation, moral evaluation, and treatment recommendation. The research employs a descriptive-qualitative method with a literature review and documentation technique, focusing on selected news articles published between May 19–21, 2024. Data were analyzed using Entman’s framing approach and tabulated based on original Arabic terms found in each media's narrative. The results show that Alarabiya.net frames Raisi's death as a consequence of systemic failure, associating Raisi with repression and human rights violations. In contrast, Aljazeera.net presents the event as a national tragedy, portraying Raisi as a martyr and a symbol of Islamic resistance. Both media demonstrate highly ideological narrative constructions, reflecting the geopolitical interests of their respective countries. This study confirms that media are not merely conveyors of information, but ideological actors that shape public perception through selective language, visuals, and fact presentation.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the forms and functions of code-switching and code-mixing in the film Cinta dalam Ikhlas by Fajar Bustomi using a qualitative approach and descriptive-analytical methods. The formal object of this study is the linguistic phenomenon of code-switching and code-mixing. In contrast, the material object is the film Cinta dalam Ikhlas, which narratively displays the reality of a multilingual society in Indonesia's urban religious context. This film was chosen because it reflects the socio-linguistic dynamics of modern society, which often switches languages in informal and formal situations. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that all forms of code-switching and code-mixing found are included in the external category, marked by the presence of switching and insertion of foreign languages, especially Arabic and English, and also Javanese and Sundanese regional languages ?? including internal languages, into the main language, namely Indonesian. The researcher found thirty-two linguistic data, consisting of five external code-switching data and twenty-seven code-mixing data, that appeared in words, phrases, and idiomatic expressions. These findings reflect linguistic practices that not only function as a means of communication but also as a symbol of religious identity, an expression of interpersonal affection, and a reflection of global culture that helps construct the characters, values, and narrative contexts in the film in a holistic and representative manner.

Abstract

This research discusses the psychological needs of the main character in the novel Ayat-Ayat Cinta by Habiburrahman El Shirazy using Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs theory. The main focus of the research lies on five levels of needs: physiological, security, love and belonging, appreciation, and self-actualization. Through descriptive qualitative method and humanistic psychology approach, this research explores how Fahri’s character articulates and meets his needs. The results show that Fahri successfully fulfills each stage of need step-by-step, starting with basic necessities and culminating in self-actualization, evident in his intellectual, spiritual, and moral development. The findings reveal that Fahri's character is a representation of an individual who has successfully reached the stage of self-actualization, and is able to contribute to his social environment through knowledge and faith.
