Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze moral values within the structure of the novels Laskar Pelangi and Padang Bulan by Andrea Hirata. This research employs a qualitative approach using content analysis methods and the genetic structuralism perspective. The research data consist of words, sentences, dialogues, and narration containing moral values in the novels. Data collection techniques were carried out through intensive reading and data recording. Data analysis techniques were conducted through stages of data reduction, classification, interpretation, and drawing interpretive conclusions by linking the intrinsic structure of the text and social context through the genetic structuralism framework. The results indicate that moral values are constructed through the intrinsic elements of the novel, namely theme, plot, and characterization. The findings of this study show that moral values in the novels are not normative, but rather constitute a narrative construct representing the collective consciousness of society. Thus, literary works have the potential to serve as reflective media in character education and the teaching of Indonesian Language and Literature. The implications of these results indicate that literary analysis based on genetic structuralism can be used as a reflective approach in literature teaching, particularly in the development of character education based on narrative understanding. In addition, the integrative model between intrinsic structure and moral values can serve as a methodological alternative in Indonesian literary research.

Abstract

In the era of globalization, the existence of oral literature as an intangible cultural heritage is facing the threat of extinction due to the lack of intergenerational transmission and adaptive documentation aligned with contemporary developments. Limited mastery of regional languages has also become a major obstacle in understanding Makassarese oral literature. This study aims to explore the potential implementation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in transforming the Makassarese oral literature Sinrilik Bosi Timurung (SBT) into an interactive digital format as an effort to preserve intangible cultural heritage through sustainable education. The study employed a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach, integrating traditional documentation techniques with Natural Language Processing (NLP) technology and AI-based generative media. The findings indicate that AI-based digital transformation can bridge language and accessibility barriers through contextual automatic translation and more engaging visualization of oral narratives for students. The integration of SBT into the 2025 curriculum primarily contributes to improving learning quality, enhancing critical thinking skills, and introducing coding and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to support Education for Sustainable Development (ESD). Furthermore, the incorporation of SBT oral literature into the framework of sustainable education promotes socio-cultural awareness, particularly in fostering understanding and tolerance toward cultural diversity. The local wisdom values embedded in the story include historical awareness, honesty, religiosity, mutual cooperation, morality, loyalty, and family values. Each stanza of SBT serves not merely as entertainment, but also as an educational medium that conveys noble values. SBT storytellers hold an essential role as custodians of cultural values and history. Therefore, the synergy between AI technology and local wisdom represents a crucial strategy for ensuring the sustainability of cultural identity amid the currents of modernization.

Abstract

This research aims to analyse the female characters in Haruki Murakami's Sputnik Sweetheart, namely Sumire and Miu, through the lens of Jean-Paul Sartre's existentialism. The main focus is on Sartre's three concepts of existentialism. The method used is a qualitative method with a text analysis approach. Several excerpts from the novel were selected and analysed based on Sartre's concept of existentialism. The analysis includes the identification and interpretation of key moments in the narrative that reflect existence for the self (être-pour-soi), existence in the self (être-en-soi), and bad faith (mauvaise foi or bad faith). The results show that the characters Sumire and Miu illustrate Sartre's existentialism concepts in depth about the existential struggle in dealing with their freedom, identity, and personal responsibility. The findings provide insights that can be applied to understanding the complexity of human relationships and the search for the meaning of life in the context of modern literature.

Abstract

This study analyses Sapardi Djoko Damono's novel Sunyi adalah Minuman Keras (Silence is Alcohol), focusing on power relations over the body and mind, as well as forms of resistance that emerge in the text. This study aims to analyse Sapardi Djoko Damono's novel Sunyi adalah Minuman Keras (Silence is Alcohol), focusing on power relations over the body and mind, as well as forms of resistance that emerge in the text. Using a qualitative approach and Michel Foucault's critical discourse analysis, this study explains how power operates through language and shapes individual subjectivity in the novel. The results show that cognitive control mechanisms such as manipulation, objectification, and stigmatisation reflect power relations over the mind. These mechanisms shape the way characters view themselves and their world. Furthermore, social control that regulates physical actions, lifestyles, and bodily discipline reveals that power relations over the body are often reinforced by cultural and religious norms. The novel also depicts resistance to power through various explicit and implicit means in the characters' storylines. This study shows that Sunyi is Minuman Keras is not merely a work of literature, but also a complex representation of the power dynamics that shape human life. This study helps us understand how literary discourse can both replicate and challenge power structures in society.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse and uncover the forms of subordination of women’s bodies in the short stories Gimbol by Budi Darma and Penafsir Kebahagiaan by Eka Kurniawan, which are governed by patriarchal power, using the perspective of radical feminism developed by Kate Millett. This analysis highlights how women experience subordination in the biological, coercive, economic, mythical, and ideological dimensions of patriarchy. The research method employed is qualitative descriptive, utilising text analysis and meaning interpretation based on the radical feminist theory. The findings reveal that women in these short stories are portrayed as objects of violence and sexual exploitation controlled by the patriarchal system. This analysis affirms the relevance of Millett’s thinking in unravelling the gender inequalities that persist today. The implications of this research suggest that radical feminist analysis can be used to expose practices of gender injustice in literature. These findings also provide insight into patriarchal power relations.
