Abstract

Background Breast milk is the best sole food for infants in their first six months of life. Breast milk fat content accounts for the largest part of infants’ energy and may be influenced by many factors, including maternal factors, which may vary in different settings. So far, there has been no published data about the breast milk fat content of Indonesian mothers, including whether it is affected by their body composition or nutritional intake.Objective To investigate breast milk fat content of Indonesian mothers and its associations with maternal body composition and nutritional intake. Method This cross-sectional study was conducted at Budi Kemuliaan Mothers’ and Children’s Hospital. Breast milk specimens were collected from 48 nursing mothers, centrifuged, and tested by creamatocrit for fat content. A 24-hour food recall was performed to evaluate maternal macronutrient intake. Maternal body composition was evaluated by bioelectric impedance analysis. Univariable correlations between breast milk fat content and either energy and macronutrient intake were assessed using the Spearman rho test.Results All nursing mothers had breast milk fat content within clinically normal range [mean 59.4 (SD 15.9) g/L]. There was no significant correlation between milk fat content and maternal body fat (r = -0.03, P=0.840), total body water (r = 0.09 P=0.509), or muscle mass (r = 0.08, P=0.577). Milk fat content seemed to weakly correlated with maternal fat intake, although it was not statistically significant (r = 0.27, P=0.065).Conclusion Breast milk fat content at one-month post delivery appears not associated with with maternal body composition. It seems to weakly correlate with maternal fat intake but findings need to be confirmed in larger studies with adjustment for confounding variables.

Abstract

Mikrobiota adalah kumpulan mikroorganisme yang hidup pada tubuh inang. Sebagian besar mikrobiota adalah bakteri dan saluran cerna merupakan lokasi koloni terbanyak. Sepanjang usia manusia, populasi mikrobiota saluran cerna dapat terus mengalami perubahan. Komposisi mikrobiota juga bervariasi antar individu. Faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi perubahan tersebut di antaranya kolonisasi maternal, asupan, pajanan lingkungan, dan terapi antimikroba. Komposisi mikrobiota yang tidak seimbang dapat memengaruhi kondisi kesehatan.  Ketidakseimbangan rasio mikrobiota, berupa penurunan keragaman bakteri protektif dan peningkatan jumlah bakteri patogen dapat menimbulkan berbagai penyakit saluran cerna, di antaranya inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome, hingga kanker kolorektal. Sebagian besar mikrobiota saluran cerna terutama mendapatkan makanannya dari asupan oligosakarida. Asupan prebiotik, yaitu oligosakarida tidak tercernayang bersumber dari buah-buahan dan sayuran tinggi serat membuat kolonisasi mikrobiota makin beragam. Mikrobiota saluran cerna bertugas mengolah karbohidrat tak tercerna dari asupan, hingga berperan pada proses sintesis dan metabolisme zat-zat gizi. Sepanjang manusia hidup, interaksi antara nutrisi dan mikrobiota terus terjadi. Jenis asupanmakanan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan nutrisi sejak awal kehidupan, transisi menuju makanan padat, hingga jenis asupan pada anak dan dewasa merupakan sesuatu yang dapat dipilih. Pemilihan asupan nutrisi dengan komposisi yang tepat dan seimbang diharapkan dapat memelihara komposisi mikrobiota saluran cerna yang bersifat protektif agar seterusnya menghasilkan interaksi yang menguntungkan. Abstract

Emotional eating, or overeating to ease unpleasant emotions, is one of the harmful impacts of stress. Students in their final year of college are more susceptible to emotional eating because their stress level is high. The main purpose of this study was to examine the association between stress and emotional eating behavior in final-year Medical Education Study Program students of Universitas Sriwijaya. Data was collected in January 2021, with as many as 121 students from the 2017 class participating. The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) questionnaire was used in this study to assess students' stress levels, while the Dutch Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (DEBQ) was used to assess emotional eating behavior. The Chi-square test was used to examine the data. Overall, this study discovered that 19 students (15.7 percent) were classified as having low stress, 82 students (67.8 percent) as having moderate stress, and 20 students (16.5 percent) as having high stress. Emotional eating affects up to 74 (61.2%) of students, with female students experiencing more. The Chi-square test yielded p=0.018 (p 0.05) and OR 3.282 (1.186-9.081) indicating a significant link between stress and emotional eating behavior in final-year Medical Education Study Program students of Universitas Sriwijaya.

Abstract

Impaired fasting blood glucose is a condition that we can still try to turn back to normal. However, this has not been a concern. We aimed to analyze the contribution of risk factors (age, occupation, gender, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, body mass index, physical activity, diet quality, and abdominal circumference) to the incidence of impaired fasting blood glucose in people of productive age in Palembang. This research was an observational analytic study with a cross sectional design. The results of the analysis using logistic regression showed that the most dominant risk factor associated with impaired fasting glucose was the diastolic blood pressure with OR=4.56, 95% CI=1.956-10,632, and p-value <0.001. Diastolic blood pressure was a significant and dominant risk factor for impaired fasting glucose in productive age communities. It is recommended that people who are more than 15 years old are expected to maintain blood pressure within the normal range, especially diastolic blood pressure in order to reduce the risk of disrupted fasting blood glucose by continuing to do physical activity

Abstract

Kantin sehat berperan penting dalam penyediaan makanan bergizi untuk mempertahankan daya tahan tubuh dari berbagai penyakit. Mahasiswa pendidikan dokter membutuhkan kantin sebagai tempat pembelian makanan di sela istirahat perkuliahan dan aktivitas lain yang padat. Sayangnya, kantin di kampus Madang Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Sriwijaya (FK UNSRI) belum dikategorikan sebagai kantin sehat, dan ditutup semenjak pandemi. Pengembangan model kantin sehat menjadi hal yang penting, dan membutuhkan dukungan institusi. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian observasional deskriptif, yang bertujuan mengidentifikasi pengetahuan tentang kantin sehat, persepsi tentang kantin yang tersedia sebelumnya, dan sikap mahasiswa FK UNSRI terhadap pengembangan kantin sehat di kampus. Seluruh mahasiswa aktif angkatan 2018 dan 2019 Program Studi Pendidikan Dokter yang beraktivitas di Kampus Madang, pernah mengonsumsi makanan di kantin kampus, dan bersedia menandatangani formulir kesediaan partisipasi diambil sebagai responden penelitian. Teknik pengambilan sampel insidental, dan pengambilan data dilakukan menggunakan Google Form. Total responden yang berpartisipasi sebanyak 219 orang. Sebanyak 114 responden (52.1%) memiliki pengetahuan baik tentang kantin sehat, dan sisanya masuk dalam kategori kurang baik. Sebagian besar responden (94 orang/42.9%) memiliki persepsi bahwa kantin yang selama ini tersedia sudah Baik. Sebagian besar mahasiswa menyatakan Setuju-Sangat Setuju terhadap inisiatif pengembangan kantin sehat (196 orang/ 89.5%). Sebagian besar setuju bahwa keterlibatan mahasiswa dalam penyelenggaraan kantin sehat adalah penting (164 orang/ 55%), namun ternyata sebagian besar tidak berminat untuk terlibat (135 orang/ 61.6%). Gambaran pengetahuan, persepsi, dan sikap mahasiswa pada penelitian ini dapat dijadikan pertimbangan dalam pengembangan kantin sehat di kampus.

Abstract

The early 2021 rise in COVID-19 cases, as well as the advent of novel types due to mutations, tightened social activities. To avoid transmission of the virus between pregnant women, health workers, and other visitors, service adjustments are required to assist pregnant women in doing prenatal checkups. Every day at home, efforts to maintain the maternal can be made, including normal physical activity and managing dietary intake. To boost pregnant women's understanding, community service activities such as counseling on antenatal care, physical exercise, and particular dietary intake are carried out. In total, 92 expectant mothers took part in webinars. Prior to the webinar, a pretest was used to measure initial knowledge; the average result was in the "Good" category. The activity went off without a hitch, and the attendees were eager to ask questions. The post-test score increased to the "Very Good" level, according to the evaluation data. This webinar activity will help pregnant women gain a better understanding of how to stay healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

Reducing the incidence of stunting is one of the goals of the 2025 Global Nutrition Targets. The prevalence of stunting in children in Indonesia is still high over the last decade. Lack of knowledge on nutritional intake, maternal nutritional status factors, breastfeeding practices, complementary feeding practices, and exposure to infections as well as other factors including education, food system, health care, and sanitation are important determinants of child stunting in Indonesia. This community service activity is carried out with the aim of providing counseling about stunting to mothers and measuring the nutritional status of toddlers as an effort to prevent stunting. The activity was coordinated by students who are members of the Student Executive Board of the Faculty of Medicine, Sriwijaya University (FK Unsri) and Muhammadiyah University (FK UM), involving FK Unsri lecturers, in collaboration with staff at the Puskesmas Taman Bacaan Palembang. At the end of the activity, participants became more aware of the importance of measuring children's nutritional status and stunting prevention measures. There were 6 toddlers who were indicated to be malnourished and reported for management by the Puskesmas team so that they did not progress to stunting.

Abstract

Hypertension and obesity are one of the risk factors for the increasing number of non-communicable diseases. In Indonesia, in 2018 there was an increase in cases of non-communicable diseases where there were five diseases that were included as the largest cause of death. There were heart disease, cancer, and diabetes. Some of the risk factors that cause an increase in cases of non-communicable diseases include high consumption of sugar/salt/fat, smoking habits, lack of physical activity, and lack of consumption of fruits and vegetables. This study aims to determine the picture of body mass index and blood pressure as well as the portion of fruit and vegetable consumption in the community in Kelurahan 20 Ilir D-IV Palembang. In this study, there were 33 respondents consisting of 10 men and 23 women, with an age range of 23-76 years. A total of 18 respondents (54.5%) were overweight, and as many as 13 (39.4%) and 12 (36.4%) respondents had 1st degree of hypertension and pre-hypertension respectively. Of the average portions of vegetable and fruit consumption in 1 meal, as many as 15 (45.4%) and 10 (30.3%) respondents consumed less vegetables and fruits. This study shows that there were people that consume fruits and vegetable in fewer portions and have overweight and 1st degree hypertension.

Abstract

Kenaikan berat badan yang tidak sesuai selama kehamilan bisa menjadi petunjuk mengenai kurangnya gizi ibu hamil dan juga berdampak pada ibu maupun janin. Status gizi pada masa prahamil, saat hamil dan masa menyusui tersebut menjadi faktor yang memengaruhi keberhasilan ibu menyusui ASI eksklusif selama 6 bulan. Keberhasilan menyusui tersebut juga dipengaruhi oleh kegiatan Inisiasi Menyusu Dini (IMD). Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini berlokasi di Puskesmas Taman Bacaan. Melalui kegiatan ini diharapkan masyarakat khususnya para ibu hamil bisa mendapatkan pengetahuan mengenai status gizi ibu hamil, pentingnya ASI Eksklusif dan IMD. Kegiatan awal adalah pemberian pre-test untuk mengetahui tingkat pengetahuan, dilanjutkan dengan penyuluhan tentang topik-topik tersebut. Kegiatan penyuluhan ini sangat dibutuhkan untuk memperbaiki tingkat pengetahuan ibu hamil, terutama pada ibu yang memiliki risiko malnutrisi. Peserta mengikuti kegiatan dengan baik dan berdiskusi aktif. Penyuluhan ini merupakan salah satu langkah pendahuluan bagi para ibu hamil yang nantinya bisa dilanjutkan dengan pemantauan peningkatan status gizi dan selama hamil dan pascapersalinan.
