Abstract

The canteen is one of the supporting facilities on campus. The availability of nutritious menus is of great assistance in meeting the nutritional needs of the academic community in support of its learning activities. However, not all campus canteens meet the criteria for healthy canteens. Students' input is required for the establishment of a healthy canteen, especially regarding the menu. This study aims to explore the canteen menu preferences of medical students at Universitas Sriwijaya to develop a healthy canteen. This study is an observational survey, and Google Form is used to collect data through an online questionnaire. The majority of the 646 samples (72.4 %) were females, lived within the family house (52.8 %), had meals from the canteen (70.1 %), were likely to buy ready-to-eat food (65 %), and spent their daily pocket money between IDR 20,000 to 30,000 (34.1 %). A part of them was pleased with the former canteen's menu, including flavor, presentation, menu variants, accessibility to desired menus, pricing, and nutrition content. The majority of students prefer to purchase the main menu (85.1 %), drink without added sugar (74.8%), get the seller's predetermined food portion (54%), and select a canteen that regulates unhealthy menu limitations (46.9 %), which provides a complete menu list with prices and nutritional content (49.8 %). Most students prefer menus that fill them up, no added sugar drinks, predetermined menu portions, limiting menus that are considered unhealthy, and clear nutritional content and price information on the menu list.

Abstract

The main aspect of the challenge related to children's food patterns and intake is the availability of snacks and drinks sold in the school environment with high energy and fat and low fruit and vegetables. This community service aims to increase knowledge related to risks, healthy eating patterns, and the importance of bringing children to school. In addition, nutritional status and identification of eating habits of fruits and vegetables in students were also measured. This activity was carried out on August 19, 2022 with strict implementation of health protocol discipline. The majority of students at TK -Active have normal nutritional status with a total of 53 people (73.61%). Carrot is the students' favorite vegetable with 17 people (37.74%) although most parents (46.67%) like all vegetables. Oranges are the students' favorite fruit with 11 people (24.44%), as well as the parents of most students also like oranges, totaling 15 people (33.33%). There are similarities in food preferences both healthy and unhealthy in parents and their children, especially if they eat together more often. Parents have a big role in determining children's eating preferences.

Abstract

The implementation of posyandu activities cannot be separated from the role of cadres. One of the cadres' tasks is to manage the provision of PMT for toddlers participating in posyandu. Plaju is included in the 10 areas with the highest population density in Palembang City with problems of malnutrition and stunting still being found. Proper provision of PMT can improve the nutritional status of toddlers in order to achieve optimal growth and development in toddlers. The problems in providing PMT are the nutritional content that is not yet dense in nutrition, lack of variety and boredom in the PMT menu. Therefore, it is necessary to provide assistance to cadres to be able to process PMT that is more varied, high in protein and appropriate and tastes that toddlers like, such as pudding. This community service activity was carried out on 25 cadres from 5 posyandus in Plaju involving 4 lecturers and 8 students. the activity was carried out in September 2024. The success of the activity will be evaluated through the results of the pretest and posttest. The level of cadre knowledge regarding high-protein PMT and the cadre's ability to process high-protein PMT through a high-protein pudding creation competition

Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is essential for maternal and infant health, yet its coverage remains low in several regions. This community service activity aims to evaluate the effectiveness of community-based counseling in improving knowledge among Posyandu cadres and pregnant women. The activity involved 11 cadres and 32 pregnant women in Ilir Barat II using pretest, counseling, discussion, simulation, and post-test approaches. Results showed an increase in participants' knowledge scores, with the cadres' median pretest score improving from 12 (8–18) to 18 (14–19), and pregnant women’s scores rising from 8.6 (2–15) to 17 (13–20). The PRECEDE-PROCEED model was applied to identify predisposing factors through IPTEKS-based education, enabling through simulations, and reinforcing through cadre support. Community-based counseling proved effective in enhancing participants' knowledge, though the changes were not entirely significant. This program has the potential to be replicated in other areas to improve exclusive breastfeeding coverage in Indonesia.
