Abstract

This study examines the effects of work stress and toxic leadership on employee engagement, with work–life balance serving as a mediating variable among Generation Z employees in the tourism sector, particularly in hotels and restaurants in Bali. The study employed a quantitative approach using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) based on Partial Least Squares (PLS) with SmartPLS 4.0. Data were collected from 150 Generation Z employees aged 17–28 years who work as permanent staff in the hospitality sector in Bali. The findings indicate that work stress positively influences both work–life balance and employee engagement, suggesting that challenging stress can function as a motivating factor that enhances adaptive behavior and involvement at work. Toxic leadership, however, negatively and significantly affects employee engagement but does not significantly influence work–life balance. Furthermore, work–life balance positively impacts employee engagement and significantly mediates the relationship between work stress and engagement. However, it does not mediate the relationship between toxic leadership and engagement, indicating that the destructive nature of toxic leadership directly reduces employees’ psychological attachment to their work. Theoretically, this study contributes to the Job Demands–Resources (JD-R) model and the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA) by distinguishing between constructive job demands and destructive leadership behaviors in shaping engagement. Practically, the findings highlight the importance of adaptive stress management, leadership development, and work–life balance policies in sustaining Generation Z employee engagement in the hospitality industry.

Abstract

This research seeks to understand the exploration of co-creation strategies in the collaborative strategy program for innovation in the digital era at Bank OCBC through a qualitative descriptive approach. Study data was collected through documentation, observation, and conducting in-depth interviews directly with 4 informants. The data was then analyzed using a triangulation approach, both sources and techniques, which were guided by the theory of Miles et al. The findings indicate that marketing strategies in the current digital era see collaboration between companies and customers through co-creation. At Bank OCBC, it is implemented well by paying attention to dialogue, access, risk assessment and transparency (DART) in the current era of digital disruption, the co-creation process used by Bank OCBC can be shortened by using platforms such as websites and social media so that it takes advantage of this platform by exchanging ideas with customers to see what they want about current banking products or asking for reviews regarding products that OCBC Bank already has and customer satisfaction in using the products they have so that it has an impact on sustainability. This study is able to make a positive contribution to marketing literature in product marketing and practically for banks in maintaining the business sustainability of financial institutions in Indonesia.

Abstract

Digital transformation represents a critical initial step for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in adapting to digitalization. This process involves technological innovations, efficient economic operations, and strategic initiatives to support SMEs. The SME sector holds significant importance as a cornerstone of national economic development. This study employs a systematic literature review to synthesize insights into the driving factors, barriers, and success strategies for SMEs undertaking digital transformation. The driving factors are categorized into individual, technological, environmental, and organizational contexts. Conversely, the barriers include challenges faced by individual business actors, as well as technical, environmental, organizational, and cultural constraints. The success of SMEs in this transformation depends on both internal and external factors. Internally, success is fostered through adequate knowledge and education on digitalization, the development of innovative business models, digital capabilities, organizational functions, culture, and effective human resource management. Externally, success depends on adapting to environmental shifts, building partnerships, and utilizing government regulatory support, which serves as a key driver of digital transformation for SMEs. These results imply that policymakers, SME practitioners, and SME stakeholders have to collaborate in overcoming challenges and seizing opportunities for SME digital transformation.

Abstract

Employee performance is a key determinant of organizational sustainability, particularly as Generation Z increasingly dominates the workforce with distinct expectations regarding work conditions and leadership. However, misalignment between organizational practices and these expectations often leads to low job satisfaction and suboptimal performance. This study aims to examine the mediating role of job satisfaction in the relationship between work environment, leadership style, and the performance of Generation Z employees in Denpasar City. A quantitative approach was employed using primary data collected from 200 Generation Z employees selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4.0. The findings reveal that both the work environment and leadership style have a positive and significant effect on employee performance and job satisfaction. Job satisfaction also exerts a significant positive influence on employee performance. Furthermore, job satisfaction partially mediates the effect of the work environment and leadership style on performance, indicating that supportive organizational conditions enhance performance both directly and indirectly through increased satisfaction. These results contribute to the theoretical understanding of Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory in the context of Generation Z and provide practical insights for organizations in designing adaptive human resource strategies to improve employee performance and retention.

Abstract

This qualitative case study investigates the role of change management and transformational leadership in implementing the BNN One Stop Service (BOSS), an e-government initiative by Indonesia's National Narcotics Agency. Drawing on the STOPE framework, the study analyzes data from interviews, document reviews, and observations at BNN's work units in Bali Province. The findings reveal that successful BOSS implementation requires both strategic leadership direction and comprehensive change management approaches. Key success factors include clear regulations, robust SOPs, effective communication channels, and targeted training programs. While leadership actively monitors implementation progress, collaboration with external stakeholders proves crucial for expanding service reach. However, varying e-readiness levels across work units pose implementation challenges. The study yields significant implications across multiple domains. At the policy level, it suggests developing differentiated implementation frameworks based on organizational readiness. For practitioners, it emphasizes establishing comprehensive change protocols before digital transformation initiatives. Theoretically, it extends the STOPE framework by demonstrating the critical intersection between transformational leadership and change management in e-government implementation. For public sector organizations, the findings indicate that successful digital transformation requires not only technological infrastructure but also leadership commitment, systematic change processes, and sustained stakeholder engagement. These insights particularly benefit developing nations pursuing similar public service digital initiatives.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) and brand trust on purchase decisions through impulsive buying behavior for Timephoria cosmetic products in Denpasar City. The research employs a quantitative approach involving 144 Gen Z and young adult respondents who reside in Denpasar, have purchased Timephoria products within the last six months, and are active social media users. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed with Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) using SmartPLS 4.0. The results show that FOMO and brand trust have a positive and significant effect on both impulsive buying behavior and purchase decisions. Impulsive buying behavior also has a positive and significant effect on purchase decisions and acts as a partial mediating variable in the relationship between FOMO and brand trust with purchase decisions, as indicated by VAF values of 43.2% and 25.1%, respectively. R² values of 0.568 for impulsive buying behavior and 0.634 for purchase decisions indicate that the model has strong predictive power in explaining Timephoria consumers’ behavior. These findings confirm that marketing strategies based on urgency, exclusivity (time-limited experience), and strengthened brand trust are effective in encouraging impulsive purchases and accelerating purchase decision-making among young consumers in the digital era. Kata kunci: Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), kepercayaan merek, perilaku pembelian impulsif, keputusan pembelian
