Abstract

The lack of students’ awareness in maintaining environmental cleanliness and the suboptimal use of trash bins became problems at SDN Locare 1. This community service activity aimed to improve students’ knowledge and behavior in waste management through education and direct practice. The method used was mixed-methods consisting of planning, implementation, and evaluation stages. The activities included observation, interviews, interactive video-based learning, discussions, waste sorting practices, and making trash bins from used materials. Evaluation was conducted using pretests and posttests as well as observations of students’ behavior. The results showed an increase in students’ understanding, with the average pretest score improving from 52.86% to 76.67% in the posttest. In addition, students became more accustomed to disposing of waste according to its type and showed greater concern for school environmental cleanliness. This activity successfully improved environmental awareness and clean and healthy living behavior among elementary school students.

Abstract

Indonesia has a high level of disaster vulnerability, yet the understanding of disaster mitigation and preparedness among elementary school students, particularly at SDN Koncer 2 Bondowoso Regency, remains low. This study aims to foster disaster preparedness among fourth and fifth grade students through a participatory approach. The implementation method was conducted in April 2026 involving 20 students from grades IV and V through preparation, interactive socialization and simulation, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test instruments. The results indicate a significant increase in student understanding, with average scores rising from 32.5 in the pre-test to 75.4 in the post-test. The use of learning media such as volcanic eruption, flood, and landslide simulations proved effective in increasing enthusiasm and students' independent evacuation skills. In conclusion, disaster mitigation education using participatory methods and simulations successfully developed disaster-responsive character and improved students' preparedness for emergency conditions at school and in daily life.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to increase environmental awareness among elementary school children through socialization and training in ecoprint techniques at SDN Sekarputih 2 Bondowoso. The identified problems were students' low attention to school environmental cleanliness and a lack of understanding of how to use natural materials wisely and environmentally friendly. The method used in implementing this activity was a participatory and educational approach, consisting of preparation and socialization stages, ecoprint making practice, mentoring and reflection, and activity evaluation. The number of participants involved in this activity was 27 children from grade V B. In the practical stage, students used leaves and flowers around the school as natural materials to create ecoprint works on fabric. The results of this activity showed an increase in students' understanding of environmental awareness, as reflected in the pre-test and post-test results which increased from 70% to 88%. In addition, students demonstrated more environmentally responsible behavior, such as reducing the use of single-use plastics and maintaining the cleanliness of the school environment. In terms of skills, students succeeded in creating simple ecoprint works well thanks to the mentoring process and direct practice. Thus, the application of ecoprint techniques has proven effective as a creative and environmentally friendly learning tool in forming environmentally conscious characters among elementary school students.

Abstract

The low level of awareness among primary school pupils regarding Clean and Healthy Living Behaviours (PHBS) is the main issue underlying this community service initiative, particularly at SDN Sumber Kokap 1 in Bondowoso Regency. The aim of the initiative is to enhance the knowledge and awareness of pupils in Years 4 to 6 regarding the importance of practising PHBS in their daily lives through an engaging and interactive approach. The activity was conducted over five sessions using the Game-Based Learning (GBL) method, supported by an innovative learning tool known as the Kesuma Cards (Health for the Future). The learning sessions included a pre-test, the delivery of basic PHBS material, a handwashing demonstration, reinforcement of the material through the Kesuma Card game, and a post-test as a final evaluation. A total of 34 pupils actively participated in the entire series of activities. The results of the activities showed a significant improvement in the pupils’ understanding, as demonstrated by an increase in the average pre-test score from 37.73 to 84.91 in the post-test. Furthermore, the pupils displayed high levels of enthusiasm and active engagement throughout the learning process. The use of Kesuma Cards in this activity proved effective in improving students’ understanding of PHBS, developing critical thinking skills, strengthening cooperation, and fostering positive character traits from an early age. This activity made a tangible contribution to building healthy lifestyle habits among primary school pupils in the Taman Krocok sub-district, Bondowoso Regency.
