Abstract

This study investigates the role of Guru Penggerak (Teacher Mobilizers) in enhancing the pedagogical competence of non-Guru Penggerak teachers at SMA Negeri 5 Barru, Indonesia. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews and documentation involving the principal, Guru Penggerak, non-Guru Penggerak teachers, and students. The findings indicate that Guru Penggerak contribute significantly to pedagogical improvement through three main roles: (1) facilitating professional learning communities via internal training, workshops, regular discussions, and sharing best practices; (2) serving as model practitioners by demonstrating differentiated instruction, technology integration, and contextual curriculum development; and (3) fostering collaborative spaces for peer dialogue, reflective practice, and problem-solving. These roles promote improved mastery of learning theories, curriculum design, ICT utilization, and empathetic communication among non-Guru Penggerak teachers. Supporting factors include principal leadership, a collaborative school culture, and teacher motivation. Challenges identified include limited time, uneven ICT access, and varied teacher readiness. Overall, Guru Penggerak act as key agents of educational transformation by sustainably strengthening teaching quality and professional capacity within the school context.

Abstract

Inclusive education represents the fulfillment of every citizen’s right to access education without discrimination, as mandated by the Regulation of the Minister of National Education No. 70 of 2009. This study is motivated by the importance of implementing an educational system that provides equal learning opportunities for all children, including those with special needs. Sivana Montessori School in Makassar was selected as the research site because it applies the Montessori approach, emphasizing independence, freedom of learning, and respect for individual potential within an inclusive setting. This study aims to describe the implementation of inclusive education at the school, including admission policies for students with special needs, assessment processes, the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP), curriculum implementation, the role of special education teachers, parental involvement, and challenges encountered. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with source and method triangulation to ensure validity. The findings indicate that inclusive education at Sivana Montessori has been implemented systematically by integrating the National Curriculum with Montessori-based hands-on and multisensory learning. Collaboration among teachers, parents, disability organizations, and government support plays a crucial role. However, challenges remain, particularly limited disability-friendly facilities and the need for continuous teacher training

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of transformational leadership and work-life balance on the motivation of junior high school teachers in North Toraja Regency. This research was conducted because there were still teachers who experienced decreased work motivation, such as low participation in professional development activities and limited involvement in school programs. This study employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The sample consisted of 168 junior high school teachers in North Toraja Regency selected through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive statistics and multiple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS version 25. The results showed that the principals’ transformational leadership and teachers’ work-life balance were categorized as good. Both variables had a positive and significant effect on teacher motivation, both partially and simultaneously. This means that the better the principals’ leadership and the teachers’ work-life balance, the higher the teachers’ motivation in carrying out their duties. The novelty of this study lies in examining the combined effect of transformational leadership and work-life balance on junior high school teachers’ motivation in North Toraja Regency, which has rarely been studied in the educational context of the region.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the imbalance in student interest and enthusiasm for extracurricular programs at SMPN 6 Polewali Mandar, caused by suboptimal program planning, inconsistent scheduling, and limited infrastructure. This study aims to comprehensively describe student interest in extracurricular activities and identify its supporting and inhibiting factors. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, involving direct observation, in-depth interviews with key informants, and documentation. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman model, comprising data collection, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. The results indicate that student interest, analyzed through five indicators (attraction, enthusiasm, activeness, consistency, and desire to develop abilities), is generally sufficient but remains unevenly distributed. Supporting factors driving this interest include personal hobbies, parental support, positive peer influence, and guidance from advisors. Conversely, the primary inhibiting factors consist of physical fatigue after regular school hours, long commuting distances, erratic weather conditions, inadequate facilities, and poor program management. To optimize student participation, it is practically recommended that the school management map student interests at the beginning of the academic year, restructure the scheduling to be more flexible, and optimize budget allocation for infrastructure improvements.
