Abstract

This research was motivated by the low ability to solve mathematical problems in class V students at SD Negeri 013 Kumantan with a total of 10 students, 3 female students and 7 male students. This research aims to improve problem solving abilities using the Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) learning model based on local wisdom with material on fraction calculation operations in class V of SD Negeri 013 Kumantan, Kec. Bangkinang City for the 2024/2025 academic year. The research method used is classroom action research (PTK) which is carried out in 2 cycles consisting of two meetings each cycle, has 4 stages, namely planning, implementation, observation and reflection. Data collection techniques use test, observation and documentation techniques. The results of the research showed that in cycle 1 of meeting I, the average student's mathematical problem solving ability (54.2) was in the very low category with a classical completeness percentage of 40%. At meeting II, mathematical problem solving ability increased to (66.9) in the poor category with classical completeness of 60%, in cycle 2 of meeting I increased to average (73.5) in the sufficient category with classical completeness of 80%, then at meeting II in cycle 2 increased again to an average (82.8) in the good category with classical completeness of 80%. Based on the data obtained, it was concluded that by implementing the Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) learning model, it could improve the mathematical problem solving abilities of fifth grade students at SD Negeri 013 Kumantan.

Abstract

This study examines the role of mathematics learning in developing students' critical thinking skills, focusing on the ethnomathematics approach. At SDN 007 Bangkinang and SDN 013 Tanjung Berulak, it was found that students tended to provide short and less in-depth answers in solving mathematical problems, indicating low critical thinking skills among the students. The method used was quasi-experimental, involving 40 fourth-grade students, 20 students from SDN 007 Bangkinang as the experimental class and, 20 students from SDN 013 Tanjung Berulak as the control class. The research instrument consisted of story problems with five questions, each containing four indicators of critical thinking skills. Data were analyzed using an independent samples t-test. The results showed that ethnomathematics learning had a significant effect on improving students' critical thinking skills, with a mean difference of -34.075 and a significance level of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The average score of students' critical thinking skills increased to 78.00. These findings support the importance of integrating culture into mathematics learning to effectively enhance students' critical thinking abilities.

Abstract

Selecting an appropriate sample is a crucial step in ensuring the validity of educational research results, particularly at the elementary school level, this research aims to explain the implementation and effectiveness of the Simple Random Sampling technique in classroom-based research. The methods employed include a literature review and participatory observation of the use of the lottery technique to determine research subjects from a population of students with relatively homogeneous characteristics. The findings indicate that simple random sampling is well suited for application in elementary schools due to its procedural simplicity, high level of objectivity, and its ability to ensure that every student has an equal chance of being selected without any bias from the teacher.However, at the elementary school level, this study aims to illustrate the implementation.The study concludes that for novice researchers or teachers conducting Classroom Action Research (CAR), simple random sampling is the most practical option while still adhering to scientific research principles.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the improvement of students' mathematical communication skills in mathematics learning through the problem based learning model in class IV of Muhammadiyah 028 Penyasawan Elementary School. This research is motivated by the low mathematical communication of students. This research is a classroom action research. The subjects in this study were 1 teacher and 20 fourth-grade students of Muhammadiyah 028 Penyasawan Elementary School. The object of this research is the problem based learning model and mathematical communication skills. This research was conducted in 2 cycles, each cycle carried out 2 meetings. The data collection techniques used in this study were tests, observation and documentation. Meanwhile, the data analysis used was descriptive qualitative and quantitative with percentages. Based on the increase in the number of students who achieved the criteria for achieving learning objectives (KKTP) and the increase in class average scores and classical scores. The presentation value of students' mathematical communication skills before the action showed that 6 students or 30% were in the very poor mathematical communication skills category. Then after applying the problem based learning model in cycle I meeting I there were 9 students who achieved mastery, which is 45% in the poor mathematical communication skills category, in cycle I meeting II there were 11 students who achieved mastery, which is 60% in the poor mathematical communication skills category, in cycle II meeting I there were 14 students who achieved mastery, which is 70% in the good mathematical communication skills category, and then in cycle II meeting II there were 18 students who achieved mastery, which is 90% in the very good mathematical communication skills category. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the problem based learning model can improve students' mathematical communication in Mathematics learning in class IV of Muhammadiyah 028 Penyasawan Elementary School.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the mathematical concept understanding of Grade II students at UPT SD Negeri 005 Binuang through the implementation of the Game-Based Learning (GBL) method assisted by the Papan Jurang media. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach conducted in two cycles, each consisting of two meetings. Each cycle included the stages of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of this study were the Grade II students of UPT SD Negeri 005 Binuang, totaling 20 students, comprising 7 boys and 13 girls. Data collection techniques used in this study included observation, tests, and documentation, while the research instruments consisted of observation sheets and written tests. The data were analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative methods. The results showed that the classical completeness percentage of students increased from 38.50% in Cycle I Meeting I to 53.85% in Cycle I Meeting II, then rose to 69.23% in Cycle II Meeting I, and reached 92.31% in Cycle II Meeting II. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Game-Based Learning method assisted by the Papan Jurang media is effective in enhancing students’ understanding of mathematical concepts.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students' reading comprehension skills through the cooperative learning model type Learning Start with a Question (LSQ) in Grade V students at UPT SD Negeri 012 Kampung Panjang in the 2024/2025 academic year. The research used is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subjects of this study are the students of UPT SD Negeri 012 Kampung Panjang, while the objects of the study are the cooperative learning model type Learning Start with a Question (LSQ) and the students' reading comprehension skills. The research was conducted in two Iteration, each consisting of two meetings. The data collection techniques used in this study were observation, tests, and documentation. Based on the increase in the number of students who achieved the minimum learning mastery criteria (KKTP) and the improvement in the average class scores and classical completeness, the results showed that the average scores and classical completeness in iteration I Meeting 1 were 31.25%, iteration I Meeting 2 was 50%, iteration II Meeting 1 was 75%, and iteration II Meeting 2 reached 87.5%. Based on these findings, it could be concluded that the cooperative learning model type Learning Start with a Question (LSQ) could improve the reading comprehension skills of Grade V students at UPT SD Negeri 012 Kampung Panjang.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the teaching of length, weight, and time measurement in elementary schools. The study employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method through descriptive analysis of 10 relevant scientific journals published between 2023 and 2025. The results of the study indicate that the teaching of length, weight, and time measurement in elementary schools requires an approach that is contextual, interactive, and based on real-world experiences to enhance students’ conceptual understanding. The use of concrete materials and varied learning strategies has proven effective in enhancing engagement, conceptual understanding, and problem-solving skills, as well as helping students connect measurement concepts to everyday life.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the learning of addition and subtraction in elementary school students through a library research approach. The method used was qualitative research, with data sources consisting of books, scientific journals, and articles relevant to the research topic. Data collection was conducted through a literature review without the use of interviews or field documentation. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive qualitative methods by grouping, comparing, and interpreting various findings from literature sources. The results indicate that addition and subtraction learning is still dominated by a procedural approach, resulting in suboptimal student understanding. The use of contextual learning strategies, varied learning media, and interactive methods such as educational games and problem-based learning have been shown to improve student understanding and motivation. Furthermore, teachers play a crucial role in designing innovative and student-centered learning to make the learning process more effective.

Abstract

This study addresses the low level of students’ understanding of multiplication concepts in elementary mathematics education, which is often caused by abstract teaching methods and limited use of concrete learning media. The objective of this research is to examine the effect of using concrete media on students’ conceptual understanding of multiplication in elementary school. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, involving two groups: an experimental class that utilized concrete media and a control class that applied conventional teaching methods. The participants were fourth-grade students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test instruments designed to measure students’ conceptual understanding of multiplication. The results of the study indicate that students who learned using concrete media showed a significant improvement in their understanding compared to those who received traditional instruction. The findings suggest that the use of concrete media enhances students’ engagement and facilitates better comprehension of abstract mathematical concepts. Therefore, integrating concrete learning media is recommended to improve the quality of mathematics learning in elementary education.

Abstract

This implementation was motivated by the low narrative writing skills of students in the Indonesian language subject at SDN 006 Pasir Sialang, Bangkinang District, Kampar Regency. One solution to overcome this problem is to apply the Write Around learning model. The purpose of this study is to describe the application of the Write Around learning model to improve the skills of writing narrative essays assisted by picture media. This research method is Classroom Action Research (PTK) which is carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consists of two meetings and four stages, namely planning, implementation, observation, reflection, and research time from May 2025. The subjects of this study were 25 class V students, with 15 boys and 10 girls. Collection techniques in the form of documentation, observation and tests. The results of the study can be concluded that the skill of writing narrative essays using the Write Around learning model for class V SDN 006 Pasir Sialang in cycle I was classified as good with an average of 76,96. Furthermore, of the 25 students, only 21 students completed the classical learning completeness, while 84%. In cycle II it was very good with an average of 88, and out of 25 students there were 25 people who completed it while the classical learning mastery was 100%. Thus it can be concluded that using the Write Around learning model can improve the skills of writing narrative essays for class V SDN 006 Pasir Sialang.
