Abstract

This study aims to describe the concept of concept-based and problem-solving learning strategies and their role in improving the quality of the learning process. This study employed a qualitative approach with library research. Data were obtained from various sources, such as books, scientific journals, research articles, and academic documents relevant to the research topic. Data collection was conducted through documentation studies, reviewing various references related to concept-based and problem-solving learning strategies. Data analysis was conducted using qualitative descriptive methods, reviewing, comparing, and interpreting various theories and previous research findings. The results indicate that concept-based learning strategies can help students understand material more deeply through understanding the relationships between concepts. Meanwhile, problem-solving learning strategies can improve students' critical and analytical thinking skills, as well as their ability to solve various problems. Several studies analyzed also demonstrated improvements in learning outcomes, learning activities, and student participation in the learning process after implementing these two strategies. Thus, concept-based and problem-solving learning strategies can be effective learning approaches to improve the quality of the learning process and develop students' higher-order thinking skills.

Abstract

The use of manipulative media in elementary school mathematics learning plays an important role in helping students understand abstract concepts. However, many students still experience difficulties in learning mathematics due to its abstract nature, which impacts their learning outcomes. This study aims to describe the effectiveness of manipulative media in improving students’ conceptual understanding, learning outcomes, and problem-solving abilities. The research method used is a literature review by analyzing various relevant scientific journal articles published in national journals. Data were collected through documentation techniques and analyzed descriptively by identifying, classifying, and comparing findings from previous studies. The results show that manipulative media are effective in making abstract mathematical concepts more concrete and easier to understand. In addition, the use of manipulative media can increase students’ learning motivation, engagement, and active participation during the learning process. It also contributes significantly to improving students’ problem-solving skills, as they can explore and experiment directly with learning materials. Furthermore, manipulative media are particularly effective when applied to basic mathematical topics such as addition and subtraction. Therefore, the use of manipulative media is highly recommended as an innovative and effective learning strategy to enhance the quality of mathematics learning in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the teaching of multiplication and division in lower elementary grades. The study employs a qualitative approach using a literature review method through descriptive analysis of 10 relevant scientific journals published between 2021 and 2026. The results indicate that multiplication and division instruction in elementary school lower grades should prioritize strengthening conceptual understanding over mere procedural mastery. Students’ learning difficulties are generally attributed to instruction that remains rote-memorization-oriented and fails to provide concrete, contextual learning experiences that help students grasp the meaning of repeated addition and the concept of division as a process of sharing equally. Various findings indicate that the implementation of innovative learning models, the use of manipulative and digital media, as well as problem-based and real-world context-based learning approaches can significantly improve conceptual understanding, active engagement, and student learning outcomes. Therefore, the teaching of multiplication and division in lower grades needs to be designed systematically, meaningfully, and student-centered to build a strong foundation in numeracy as the basis for mathematics learning at subsequent levels.

Abstract

Geometri merupakan materi penting dalam pengembangan kemampuan berpikir logis, kritis, dan sistematis siswa sekolah dasar, namun sering menjadi tantangan bagi siswa kelas rendah karena sifat konsep yang abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji strategi pembelajaran geometri yang efektif, termasuk penggunaan media konkret, model pembelajaran inovatif, pendekatan kontekstual, etnomatematika, dan strategi adaptif. Metode penelitian menggunakan studi literatur dengan menganalisis jurnal-jurnal nasional terkait pembelajaran geometri pada siswa sekolah dasar. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahwa media konkret membantu siswa memahami konsep abstrak secara nyata, sementara model problem solving, PBL, dan kooperatif dengan penemuan terbimbing meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis dan pemecahan masalah. Pendekatan kontekstual dan etnomatematika memperkaya pengalaman belajar dan membuat konsep lebih bermakna. Strategi adaptif memastikan pembelajaran sesuai dengan karakteristik siswa. Penerapan strategi pembelajaran yang komprehensif ini efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep geometri serta keterampilan berpikir siswa.
