Abstract

Recently, being childfree has become a trend in modern Muslim society. Childfree is practiced not only by celebrities but also by common people in Indonesia, particularly in Lampung and West Java provinces. On the one hand, the decision to be childfree is an individual right of each family, but it is considered contrary to the goals of Islamic law, which are to preserve offspring. This study examines the childfree phenomenon in modern Muslim communities in Lampung and West Java through the perspective of maqāṣid al-sharī'ah. This research employed a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. The research suggested that modern Muslim communities in Lampung and West Java Provinces choose childfree for economic, mental, health, perspective, and environmental reasons. According to maqāṣid al-sharī'ah, being childfree contradicts Sharia's purpose of preserving offspring. Sharia promotes marriage and having healthy offspring. Meanwhile, Sharia cannot justify childfree due to lifestyle or economic factors. Specifically, a fear of not being able to provide for the child's future needs because Allah ensures livelihood for every servant who has faith and works diligently. At the same time, being child-free due to health reasons is permissible.

Abstract

The transition from high school to university represents a significant period of change in the lives of first-year students. This adjustment often involves challenges in academic, social, and personal domains, with students needing to adapt to new learning environments, peer dynamics, and, in some cases, independence from family. The aim of this research is to examine differences in first year students' adjustment based on gender, culture, and domicile and living with parents or in a boarding house. The methodology employed in this study utilizes a descriptive comparative approach, which involves the integration of Two Way ANOVA with the Rasch Ranking Model. This integration is achieved by converting the raw data into logarithmic data. The study obtained politomy data using a self-adjustment scale instrument, which was disseminated online. The data were analyzed using the Rasch model. The findings show there are significant differences between the adjustment of male and female students, as well as between the Batak tribe and other tribes. Adjustment is influenced by interactions between gender and ethnicity, as well as between ethnicity and place of residence. However, no major differences in adjustment were observed with respect to specific residences or housing types.

Abstract

This article presents a stability analysis of the Leslie-Gower predator-prey model that is extended by taking into account prey infection, the presence of prey fear factors towards predators and the Beddington-DeAngelis response function. The Leslie-Gower model is a classic model that describes the dynamics of predator and prey populations, while the Beddington-DeAngelis response function accommodates the effects of population density and more complex interactions between predators and prey. The infected prey factor describes the prey's resistance to predator attacks becoming weak, while the prey fear factor towards predators affects prey growth. This study combines the components of infection in the prey population and the prey fear factor into the model to reflect the dynamics of disease and fear factors that can affect model stability. The model studied uses the Beddington-DeAngelis response function which describes the interaction between the prey population and the predator. This study uses two methods, namely analytical methods and numerical simulations. Analytical methods to study the stability analysis of the equilibrium point of the model by exploring the conditions under which the equilibrium point of the model is stable or unstable, focusing on the influence of infection parameters and the Beddington-DeAngelis response function on the stability of the equilibrium point. The results of the analysis show that prey infection and the shape of the response function can significantly affect the stability of the Leslie-Gower predator-prey model. The last section of this article presents numerical simulations that illustrate the stability of the equilibrium point of the model
