Abstract

The response of plants to environmental stress depends on the type of plant, the level, and the duration of stress. Drought stress affects growth, development, and the content of secondary metabolites produced by the plant. Kumis kucing (Orthosiphon aristatus (Blume) Miq.) is one example of a tolerant plant to drought stress. A study was conducted to compare the effect of several drought stress levels on plant growth and its sinensetin content. For this purpose, the experiment was carried out in a greenhouse with a one-factor complete randomized design, namely the level of water availability. The treatment tested consisted of: 100; 50; 37.5; 25; 12.5 percent of field capacity. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance and further tested with the Duncan Multiple Range Test level of 5% on significant results. The High-Performance Liquid Chromatography method was employed to test the sinensetin content (in percentage). The results showed that low water availability (50-12.5% field capacity) harmed plant growth and negatively affected leaf, stem, and root dry weight. The reduction in growth was highly significant in plants with water availability of 12.5% of field capacity. In low water availability, the plant that experience drought stress produced greater sinensetin content (0.0133%). Increased sinensetin in drought stress condition is a biochemical and physiological response of plants to unfavourable conditions.

Abstract

Sweet corn (Zea mays saccharata L.) is an important food commodity with high economic value. Sweet corn has a high business opportunity because of its fast production age and high selling value. The experiment was conducted to study the effect of the interaction between the composition of liquid organic fertilizer and plant spacing on the growth and yield of sweet corn. The experiment has designed in a factorial randomized block design (RAK) with two factors and three repetitions. The first factor is the composition of liquid organic fertilizer consists of 4 levels, namely: cow urine 42%, coffee skin 58% (P0); cow urine 35%, coffee skin 65% (P1); cow urine 72%. coffee skin 28% (P2); cow urine 21%, coffee skin 79% (P3). The second factor is the spacing, which consists of 3 levels, namely: 20x20 cm (J1); 30x30cm (J2); 40x40 cm (J3). Data analysis used variance and continued with the smallest significant difference test (BNT) at 5% level if the results were significantly different. The combination of liquid organic fertilizer composition and plant spacing affects the number of leaves and the length of the cob. Sweet corn with POC (72% cow urine, 28% coffee husk) and 30x30 cm spacing was able to produce 12,933 leaves. Combination of POC ingredients (21% cow urine and 79% coffee skin); 40x40 cm resulted in the length of the cob an increase of 1.5%. There was an interaction between the composition of liquid organic fertilizer and plant spacing on plant height, but the results were not significantly different. Sweet corn plants using 21% POC from cow urine and 79% coffee husk with a spacing of 40x40 cm produced cobs weight per plot of 240.27 grams and 208.22 grams, respectively. Abstract

Ananas comosus L. belongs to the Bromeliaceae family and has around eight subfamilies. Accessions of local pineapple have spread widely in several areas, one of which is in Kediri. However, some accessions and closely related species (Bromeliaceae) likely remain poorly understood relationships. The highly diverse morphological characters and low levels of sequence divergence in Bromeliaceae have been problematic in resolving the reconstruction of phylogenetic relationships. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of the matK gene as a DNA barcode to determine genetic diversity and reconstruct a phylogenetic tree in local pineapple and closely related species (Bromeliaceae). A total of 15 specimens were used in this research, of which 7 were local pineapple accessions from Kediri and eight were closely related species from the Bromeliaceae family. Whole genome DNA was isolated using a Tiangen kit and amplified using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technique using a specific primer. The results showed that matK was easily amplified with a DNA fragment length of 750-800 bp. The average composition value of each base was 36.9% T (U) bases, 30.1% in A bases, 15.9% in G bases, and 17.1% in C. BLAST analysis of the sequences showed that all samples were confirmed and identified according to the species names spread across local pineapple production areas (with query cover of 96-98%). However, the species names registered in the PBG database were confirmed to be different species but still in the same genus, i.e., samples B9-B14. The phylogenetic relationship analysis distinguished each accession into two large clades according to sub-families, i.e., Bromelioideae and Pitcairnioideae. This research shows that the matK gene is suitable and recommended as a DNA barcode for local pineapple and closely related species.

Abstract

Industri rumah tangga minyak kelapa “d’Hayfa Sukses Berkah” Kediri berdiri sejak tahun 2017. Usaha ini terletak di Jl. Kaliombo Perum Bumi Asri E-10 Kediri. Kualitas dari produk minyak kelapa Abila yang merupakan produk utama dari industri ini tidak kalah dibandingkan dengan produk sejenis yang ada di pasaran. Industri rumah tangga ini mampu menghasilkan beberapa produk turunan dari minyak kelapa, seperti sabun herbal dengan kandungan minyak kelapa dan kombinasi ekstrak tumbuhan berkhasiat, serum rambut, obat kutu, hand sanitizer, hand soap, cairan pencuci piring, serta pengharum ruangan. Dari hasil observasi dirasakan kurangnya pengetahuan masyarakat mengenai produk-produk yang dihasilkan serta kurangnya pengetahuan mengenai khasiat dan kegunaan dari produk mitra. Tujuan utama dari kegiatan abmas ini adalah untuk mengupayakan perluasan pangsa pasar melalui pemasaran digital sehingga produk minyak kelapa ini bisa dikenal luas dan meningkatkan pesanan. Sebuah website abilaindonesia.com dirancang tim abmas untuk mitra serta pengaturan unggahan media sosial yang berisi konten iklan maupun pengetahuan produk abila. Pembuatan website dan konten media sosial telah signifikan meningkatkan visibilitas online dari produk “d’Hayfa Sukses Berkah”. Penyediaan konten media sosial yang konsisten telah membantu membangun brand awareness dan keterlibatan pelanggan. Kegiatan ini mendukung pertumbuhan ekonomi berkelanjutan dan menciptakan pekerjaan yang layak (SDG 8), serta mendorong pola konsumsi dan produksi berkelanjutan (SDG 12).

Abstract

Optimal growth of Land spinach in an aquaponic system requires the selection of superior varieties and appropriate substrates. Aquaponic systems combine aquaculture and hydroponics and offer a sustainable approach to organic crop cultivation. However, studies on substrate interaction and variety in water spinach growth are still limited. This study aims to evaluate the effect of interaction between substrate and water spinach variety on plant growth and yield in an aquaponic system, focusing on potential applications in modern agriculture. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used in this study with three levels of substrate, namely rockwool (M1), cocopeat (M2), and a mixture of cocopeat-charcoal (M3). Three levels of variety, namely Bisi (V1), Shanghai (V2), and Bangkok (V3), are repeated three times. Data analysis showed no significant interaction between substrate type and variety on plant height growth, dry weight, stem diameter, and leaf area at various stages of observation. These results indicate that the aquaponic system does not explicitly require certain water spinach varieties for different substrates, making it easier for farmers to manage cultivation. These findings support the flexibility of aquaponics practices, making them more efficient and easy to adopt in modern agriculture. The study confirms that aquaponics systems allow a versatile approach to kale cultivation without the constraints of a particular substrate or variety. With the efficiency offered, this system could be an innovative solution to increase sustainability and productivity in future agriculture. Pertumbuhan optimal kangkung dalam sistem akuaponik membutuhkan pemilihan varietas unggul dan substrat yang sesuai. Sistem akuaponik, yang memadukan akuakultur dan hidroponik, menawarkan pendekatan berkelanjutan untuk budidaya tanaman organik. Namun, studi tentang interaksi substrat dan varietas terhadap pertumbuhan kangkung masih terbatas. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi pengaruh interaksi substrat dan varietas kangkung terhadap pertumbuhan dan hasil tanaman dalam sistem akuaponik dengan fokus pada potensi penerapan dalam pertanian modern. Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) digunakan dalam penelitian ini dengan tiga taraf substrat, yaitu rockwool (M1), cocopeat (M2), dan campuran cocopeat-arang (M3) serta tiga taraf varietas, yaitu Bisi (V1), Shanghai (V2), dan Bangkok (V3) yang masing-masing diulang sebanyak tiga kali. Analisis data menunjukkan tidak adanya interaksi signifikan antara jenis substrat dan varietas terhadap pertumbuhan tinggi tanaman, berat kering, diameter batang, dan luas daun pada berbagai tahap pengamatan. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa sistem akuaponik tidak secara khusus memerlukan varietas kangkung tertentu untuk jenis substrat yang berbeda, sehingga mempermudah petani dalam pengelolaan budidaya. Temuan ini mendukung fleksibilitas dalam praktik akuaponik, menjadikannya lebih efisien dan mudah diadopsi dalam pertanian modern. Studi ini menegaskan bahwa sistem akuaponik memungkinkan pendekatan serbaguna untuk budidaya kangkung tanpa batasan susbstrat atau varietas tertentu. Dengan efisiensi yang ditawarkan, sistem ini dapat menjadi solusi inovatif untuk meningkatkan keberlanjutan dan produktivitas dalam pertanian masa depan.

Abstract

Brassica rapa L., a member of the mustard green family, is a high-value crop with notable economic potential and nutritional benefits in Indonesia. Within the Brassicaceae family, commonly cultivated mustard varieties, such as mustard green, white mustard, and pakcoy, exhibit distinct differences in morphology and characteristics. Pakchoy is especially prized for its health benefits, primarily attributed to its dietary fiber content, which aids digestion and binds bile acids, reducing cholesterol levels. This study evaluated the effects of various liquid organic fertilizers (LOF) and pakchoy varieties on plant growth and yield. The research utilized a factorial Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with two main factors. The first factor was three types of LOF: rice water (L1), coconut water (L2), and banana stem (L3). The second factor consisted of three pakchoy varieties: Nauli (V1), Masbro (V2), and Gardena (V3). Observed parameters included plant height, leaf count, fresh weight, root count, and root length, recorded at 7, 14, 21, and 28 days after planting (DAP). Data were analyzed using ANOVA, with significant differences further tested by LSD at a 5% significance level. The results demonstrated that the rice water LOF (L1) combination and the Nauli variety (V1) produced the best outcomes across all growth parameters. These findings highlight the effectiveness of using rice water LOF alongside the Nauli variety as an optimized approach to improving pakcoy growth, yield, and overall agricultural productivity. Tanaman sawi, khususnya pakcoy (Brassica rapa L.), memiliki nilai ekonomi dan gizi yang tinggi di Indonesia. Dalam keluarga Brassicaceae, jenis-jenis sawi seperti sawi hijau, sawi putih, dan sawi pakcoy memiliki perbedaan mencolok pada morfologi dan karakteristik lainnya. Pakcoy dikenal karena manfaat kesehatannya, terutama kandungan serat yang dapat mempercepat proses pencernaan dna mengikat asam empedu penyebab kolesterol. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh variasi pupuk organik cair (POC) dan jenis varietas pakcoy terhadap pertumbuhan serta hasil tanaman. Penelitian dilakukan menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) faktorial dengan dua faktor, jenis pupuk cair (POC air beras, POC air kelapa, dan POC bonggol pisang) dan varietas pakcoy (Nauli, Masbro, dan Gardena). Parameter yang diamati meliputi tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, berat segar, jumlah akar, dan panjang akar. Pengamatan dilakukan pada umur 7,14, 21, dan 28 hari setelah tanam (HST), dan data dianalisis menggunakan ANOVA. Perbedaan signifikan diuji dengan Beda Nyata Terkecil (BNT) pada taraf5%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi POC air beras dengan varietas Nauli memberikan hasil terbaik dalam mendukung pertumbuhan pakcoy. Kombinasi ini menghasilkan nilai optimal pada seluruh parameter, seperti tinggi tanaman, jumlah daun, dan berat segar. Temuan ini menunjukkan potensi penggunaan POC air beras dengan varietas Nauli sebagai kombinasi efektif untuk meningkatkan produktivitas tanaman pakcoy di Indonesia.

Abstract

Agriculture is a key sector in fulfilling food needs and environmental sustainability; however, the interest of the younger generation in this field is declining. To reverse this trend, modern and promising agricultural education and understanding are needed, including hydroponic horticultural cultivation. This initiative aims to spark young people's interest in agriculture through education and training in hydroponic horticultural cultivation. The program involved 20 participants from the youth organization Karang Taruna in Kediri Regency, specifically in Bulu Hamlet, Mukuh Village, and Kayen Kidul District. The methods used included lectures, discussions, training sessions, and evaluations conducted through pre- and post-tests. Training and education covered the fundamental concepts of hydroponics, cultivation techniques, nutrient management, and business opportunities associated with hydroponic farming. The program received positive responses, with participants showing enthusiasm and interest in hydroponic farming. Beyond the theoretical materials, participants were given opportunities for hands-on practice of hydroponic cultivation techniques. This program demonstrated that modern technological approaches, such as hydroponics, can enhance youth engagement and open up entrepreneurial opportunities in agriculture. It also highlighted the importance of collaboration and support from various stakeholders, including educational institutions, the government, industry, and the general public, in fostering sustainable agricultural interest among young people. Providing initial funding support is crucial for empowering young agricultural entrepreneurs. By focusing on improving knowledge, skills, motivation, and collaboration, this program can have a positive impact on participants and the local community while contributing to the sustainability of agriculture in the region.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has harmed freshwater fish cultivators, mainly gourami. Cultivators complained and were threatened with bankruptcy because not only have the selling price been low since the start of the pandemic, but the price of feed has also continued to rise. The situation encouraged gourami cultivators to switch to other types of cultured fish, like catfish and ornamental fish such as koi. The Community Service Team initiated to offer a solution in increasing the added value of gourami through processing it into nutritious fishball. The main result of this activity was to increase the added value of the product to increase selling value, product quality, industrial productivity, employment, income, and the welfare of gourami cultivators and their families. The activity was carried out by applying a participatory approach model and training in processing and producing gourami fishball for several groups of cultivators in several villages in Kalidawir District, Tulungagung. After the training was conducted and the fishball product was created, an organoleptic test was carried out to determine public acceptance of the product.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk pengembangan suatu metode pengukuran kadar glukosa dalam darah menggunakan sensor kimia berbasis reagen Benedict. Sensor optik ini dikembangkan dengan mengimobilisasi reagen Benedict pada selulosa nata de pina. Membran selulose nata de pina dibuat dari kulit buah nanas kultivar pasir Kelud (PK1). Membran dari nata de pina in berperan sebagai material pendukung secara penjerapan/entrapment. Membran selulosa nata depina digunkaan untuk mengimmobilisasi reagent benedict.  Pengukuran menggunakan Spektrometer genesys 5 dan Spektrometer USB +2000. Penentuan glukosa memiliki kondisi optimum pengukuran pada panjang gelombang maksimum adalah 624,94 nm, konsentrasi Benedict sebesar 0,4480 M dan perbandingan massa selulosa nata de pina dengan volume Benedict yaitu 1: 3.  Hasil karakterisasi sensor optik selulosa nata de pina /Benedict yaitu pada range kerja 0-5000 ppm, limit deteksi sebesar 909,21 ppm, sensitivitas sebesar 0,0009  dan reprodusibilitas sebesar 0,2305%.
