Abstract

The Islamic worldview holds a central role in shaping the ethical and spiritual dimensions of the Muslim community, particularly amid the currents of modernity and globalization, which often emphasize materialistic and secular values. This study aims to analyze the role of the Islamic worldview as a foundational basis for cultivating strong ethical and spiritual awareness among Muslims. A qualitative approach was employed through library research, critically analyzing classical and contemporary Islamic literature as well as relevant scholarly works. The findings reveal that the Islamic worldview—rooted in the principles of tauhid, Divine revelation, and the ethics of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW)—serves as an integrative framework for restoring and reinforcing the ethical and spiritual dimensions of Muslim life. The study concludes that the internalization of the Islamic worldview within education systems, religious outreach (dakwah), and social policy is essential for strengthening Muslim identity and addressing the moral crises of the contemporary era. The implications highlight the urgency of adopting the Islamic worldview as an ideological foundation to confront the complex ethical and spiritual challenges of modern life.

Abstract

The term "progressive Muslim" has become increasingly prominent in contemporary Islamic thought, referring to individuals or groups who interpret Islamic teachings contextually, respond actively to the dynamics of the times, and emphasize values such as social justice, gender equality, human rights, and pluralism. This article aims to explore the definition of progressive Muslims and analyze their position and role within the framework of the Islamic worldview. A qualitative approach was employed using literature study methods, focusing on the works of prominent progressive Muslim thinkers and supported by critical analysis of relevant literature. The findings reveal that progressive Muslims engage not only in the reinterpretation of religious texts but also in reaffirming Islam's relevance to modern challenges while maintaining a connection to its traditional roots. Within the perspective of the Islamic worldview, progressive Muslims are seen as agents of change who integrate the principles of maqashid syariah to bridge the gap between tradition and modernity. As such, the progressive approach is crucial for preserving Islam’s continuity and adaptive capacity in a complex and dynamic era of globalization.

Abstract

Understanding differences, particularly in the context of religious beliefs is not an easy task, as it touches the most fundamental aspects of a person’s value system and identity. It requires an open heart and the awareness that every human being is created in diversity by Allah (SWT). Physical differences may be relatively easier to accept, but when the differences pertain to beliefs and religious teachings, each of which claims absolute truth the potential for conflict increases significantly. Every religion teaches a non-negotiable truth, including Islam. While such absolutism is valid within the theological domain, it can become a source of tension if not accompanied by a wise understanding of diversity. Within the framework of pluralism, understanding differences does not mean equating or blending beliefs, but rather recognizing their existence as part of the divine reality that must be respected. Differences are not to be eliminated but embraced as a strength for building cooperation, reinforcing human solidarity, and achieving a harmonious life. Therefore, tolerance toward religious differences is essential for fostering dignified and civilized human relations.

Abstract

Worldview is generally understood as a philosophy or life principle held by individuals, nations, cultures, or civilizations. When related to culture, the meaning of worldview adjusts to the characteristics of that culture, ultimately shaping one’s perception of existence and reality. Dominant factors in the formation of a worldview may stem from philosophy, religion, belief systems, or specific social value structures. Differences in these factors generate a spectrum of perspectives, ranging from those focused solely on worldly aspects to those encompassing metaphysical dimensions. As a framework, worldview comprises fundamental aspects that serve as benchmarks for interpreting life. In this regard, Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas identifies nine core components of the Islamic worldview: God, revelation (al-Qur’an), creation (the universe), the human soul, knowledge, religion, freedom, values and virtues, and happiness. Islam as a worldview offers a complete, eternal, and transcendent value system that, when adopted as a life guide, directs individuals toward true happiness in both this world and the hereafter. This paper aims to examine how Islam as a worldview shapes human attitudes and life orientations. The study employs a qualitative method with a literature review approach based on various relevant sources. The findings indicate that the Islamic worldview can serve as a comprehensive life framework for navigating the complexities of modern life.

Abstract

The moral challenges faced by adolescents in the era of globalization and modernization are increasingly complex, marked by tendencies toward hedonism, deviant behavior, verbal aggression, and identity crises. These issues are exacerbated by the lack of internalization of religious values in daily life. This article aims to examine the Islamic worldview as a foundational framework for fostering moral awareness and behavior in adolescents based on Islamic teachings. The study adopts a descriptive qualitative approach through a literature review, analyzing scholarly sources from various relevant academic references. The findings indicate that the Islamic worldview offers a holistic and transcendental moral framework capable of guiding adolescents toward ethical, responsible behavior aligned with Islamic principles. This worldview emphasizes the interconnectedness of spiritual, social, and individual aspects of life, thereby shaping a well-rounded Islamic character. Strengthening the Islamic worldview requires synergy among families, educational institutions, and social media platforms that convey positive values. The article recommends the implementation of a comprehensive and continuous educational model to develop a morally resilient and spiritually strong Muslim youth capable of navigating contemporary challenges.

Abstract

This study examines the ideological influence of secularism on science and modern education, particularly its removal of spiritual and moral values from the scientific framework. The aim is to analyze the history, characteristics, and impacts of secularism in the context of Muslim-majority societies, as well as to propose solutions from an Islamic perspective. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed through literature review of Islamic scholars’ thought and contemporary secular trends. The findings indicate that secularism severs the link between knowledge and divine guidance, fosters moral relativism, and undermines the integrity of education. Islam offers the tawhid paradigm, which unites reason and revelation, as both a conceptual and practical solution. The study recommends strategic steps such as revitalizing Islamic education, strengthening the role of scholars, and critically rejecting Western paradigms that conflict with Islamic values. Theoretically, this research contributes to the revitalization of Islamic epistemology, while practically it encourages the reform of Muslim educational institutions.

Abstract

Happiness is the ultimate goal of human life and the subject of philosophical, psychological, and spiritual inquiry. In the Islamic perspective, happiness encompasses both worldly and hereafter dimensions. Surah Ali Imran verse 200 provides comprehensive guidance through four main pillars—ṣabr (patience), ṣabāt (steadfastness), murābaṭah (readiness for striving), and taqwā (piety)—which serve as the foundation for attaining true happiness. This study aims to explore the concept of happiness according to the Qur’an with a focus on Surah Ali Imran verse 200, and to analyze its relevance to modern life. Using a qualitative approach and thematic exegesis method, the study finds that happiness in Islam originates from obedience, perseverance in striving, and firm faith in Allah SWT. These spiritual values serve as the foundation for building a peaceful, balanced, and meaningful life, both in this world and in the hereafter.

Abstract

This article explores the concept of happiness in the Qur’an based on Surah Ali Imran verse 14, which illustrates human inclinations toward worldly pleasures such as wealth, children, and the enjoyments of life. These pleasures are viewed as part of human nature (fitrah), yet they are temporary. The aim of this study is to uncover the meaning of true happiness as offered by the Qur’an through this verse and to analyze the distinction between illusory, world-oriented happiness and genuine happiness founded on tawhid values and an afterlife-oriented perspective. The research employs a qualitative approach through literature review, referencing authoritative tafsir works by scholars such as Ibn Kathir, Al-Maraghi, and Al-Qurtubi. The findings indicate that, in the Qur’anic view, happiness is not merely found in material fulfillment, but in the human ability to regard worldly pleasures as a means to draw closer to Allah. Therefore, true happiness is spiritual in nature, transcending worldly dimensions and oriented toward the Hereafter. This article contributes to enriching Islamic discourse on the essence of happiness in accordance with the guidance of the Qur’an.
