Abstract

The fine motor development of early childhood is often not optimal due to a lack of variety in learning media that can stimulate hand-eye coordination and finger skills. Based on initial observations at RA Al-Hidayah Palembang, 17 children aged 5–6 years were found to have below-standard fine motor skills, especially in writing, cutting, and pasting activities. This study aims to analyze the effect of ecoprinting activities as a natural material-based learning medium on children's fine motor development. The research method used a quantitative approach with a One Group Pretest–Posttest design. The research sample consisted of 17 children selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation, then analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results showed a significant increase between the pretest and posttest scores, as evidenced by a t-value of −9.581, which is greater than the t-table value of 2.120, and a significance value of p < 0.001. These findings indicate that ecoprinting activities are effective in improving children's fine motor skills, especially in terms of accuracy, finger flexibility, grip strength, and visual-motor coordination. Therefore, ecoprint can be used as an alternative learning medium that is enjoyable, environmentally friendly, and capable of stimulating optimal fine motor skill development.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the success of STEAM-based literacy learning at Pembina Tanjung Batu State Kindergarten. The STEAM-based literacy program for Science allows children to match words and pictures of the moon, Technology allows children to name the months through storytelling, Engineering allows children to cut out moon patterns to make posters, Art allows children to name the months and stick them on cardboard, and Mathematics allows children to calculate moon patterns. The STEAM-based literacy learning program at Pembina Tanjung Batu State Kindergarten has been running well, with the STEAM-based literacy learning program planning from planning to implementation to evaluation. The objectives were to determine the planning of STEAM-based literacy learning at Pembina Tanjung Batu State Kindergarten, to determine the implementation of STEAM-based literacy learning at Pembina Tanjung Batu State Kindergarten, and to determine the evaluation of STEAM-based literacy learning at Pembina Tanjung Batu State Kindergarten. This research used a qualitative research approach with a case study approach. The subjects of this study focused on children aged 5-6 years. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques used data triangulation, namely: data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and verification. The results of this study indicate that STEAM-based literacy learning at Pembina Tanjung Batu State Kindergarten has been running well, as demonstrated by the program's implementation. This includes planning teaching modules that include objectives, learning outcomes, indicators, and supporting learning activities, as well as implementation and evaluation. This has resulted in optimal STEAM-based literacy for children at Pembina Tanjung Batu State Kindergarten

Abstract

STEAM as an approach is a means for students to create science and technology-based ideas/concepts through thinking and exploring activities in solving problems based on five integrated disciplines. Critical thinking skills are important to be honed from an early age, because they can help in expanding children's knowledge. This study aims to determine the effect of the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) approach on the critical thinking skills of group B children at An-Nur Kindergarten in Palembang City. The research method used is quantitative with a Pre-Experimental design in the form of One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The research sample consisted of 16 class B2 children selected through purposive sampling techniques. Data collection techniques used observation, tests, and documentation, then analyzed with a t-test. The results of the study showed an increase in children's critical thinking skills after being given treatment through the STEAM approach. This is evidenced by the difference in the average pretest score (57.75) and posttest (86.5). The hypothesis test yielded a t-test of 10.37, which is greater than the t-table of 2.131 at a 5% significance level. Therefore, Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. Therefore, it can be concluded that the STEAM approach has a significant effect on the critical thinking skills of 5–6-year-old children at An-Nur Kindergarten in Palembang.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the Montessori method in developing early childhood cognitive abilities at TK Windsor Montessori Palembang. The research is grounded in the assumption that learning methods in early childhood education must be responsive to children’s developmental needs and holistic growth. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation. Data analysis followed the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that Montessori-based learning at TK Windsor Montessori Palembang is systematically planned and thematically organized in accordance with Montessori principles, emphasizing hands-on learning, sensory exploration, and children’s independence. In practice, learning activities are implemented naturally and flexibly, allowing children to actively engage in problem solving, logical reasoning, and symbolic thinking through meaningful real life experiences. Cognitive development is assessed through continuous and authentic observation rather than formal testing, enabling teachers to capture children’s thinking processes and learning strategies. From the perspective of Islamic education, the Montessori approach contributes not only to cognitive development but also to the formation of character, discipline, responsibility, and self regulation, which align with the Islamic concept of tarbiyah and holistic human development. The integration of cognitive, moral, and social dimensions supports the nurturing of learners who are intellectually capable, ethically grounded, and spiritually aware. This study highlights the relevance of Montessori pedagogy as an alternative child centered approach that is compatible with the goals of Islamic early childhood education.

Abstract

This study examines the development of children’s cognitive ability in recognizing colors through an experimental learning method in a Raudhatul Athfal (RA) setting. The research aims to describe the implementation of experimental-based color recognition activities and to analyze their contribution to cognitive and Islamic character development in children aged 4–5 years. A qualitative case study design was employed involving 15 children and one classroom teacher at an RA in Palembang over six weeks. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi structured interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. Findings indicate that experimental activities such as color mixing, observing color changes, and naming colors using concrete media enhanced children’s abilities to distinguish primary and secondary colors and improved aspects of perception, memory, and reasoning. The learning process also fostered holistic Islamic development, including discipline during activities, gratitude for Allah’s creations reflected in color diversity, and adab in collaborative exploration. The study highlights that experimental learning supports meaningful cognitive engagement while integrating Islamic values in early childhood education. These findings suggest that structured experimental activities can strengthen cognitive color recognition and promote holistic development in RA classrooms.
