Abstract

Introduction: Nurse performance is one of the key determinants of hospital service quality. In Regional General Hospital Tanduale, Bombana Regency, the issue of delayed salaries and high workloads may influence work motivation, job satisfaction, and ultimately performance. This study aims to Cross-Sectional Study of Work Motivation, Job Satisfaction, and Nurse Performance at Tanduale Regional General Hospital, Bombana Regency. Method: This study applied a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, conducted from June to July 2025. The population was 122 nurses, with a minimum sample size of 94 respondents determined using the Slovin formula. Total sampling was applied based on inclusion criteria. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using Path Analysis with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) through SmartPLS. Result: The results showed that extrinsic motivation had a significant effect on job satisfaction (β = 0.469; p = 0.041) and nurse performance (β = 0.735; p = 0.004). Meanwhile, intrinsic motivation did not significantly affect either job satisfaction (β = 0.325; p = 0.149) or nurse performance (β = -0.010; p = 0.962). Job satisfaction also did not significantly influence nurse performance (β = 0.211; p = 0.401) and did not act as a mediating variable. Conclusion: The study concludes that extrinsic motivation such as salary, incentives, recognition, and supportive work conditions is the dominant factor influencing both job satisfaction and nurse performance.

Abstract

Background: Albizia chevalieri is a medicinal plant that grows up to 12 m height under temperate condition of the dry savanna in the republic of Niger, Nigeria, Senegal and Cameroon. This study was performed to isolate and characterize a compound from the leaf extract of Albizia chevalieri. Methods: The crude extract was obtained by macerating the powdered sample of Albizia chevalieri which was further fractionated with n-hexane, dichloromethane, acetone and methanol solvents. The dichloromethane was subjected to column chromatography packed with silica gel for the isolation of compound. The isolated compounds were further purified using Preparative Thin Layer Chromatography which yielded compound. The isolated compound was characterized by subjecting it to Fourier Transform Infrared Resonance Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Proton and Carbon-13 Nuclear Magnetic resonance spectroscopy (proton and carbon-13 NMR) techniques Results: From the results, it has been observed that acetone extract has the highest percentage yield (50.15 %), followed by n-hexane extract (25 %), dichloromethane extract (16.87 %), ethanol extract (12.00 %), and then methanol extract (7.70 %), respectively. FTIR analysis reveals the presence of -OH, -C-H, C=O, and C-O. functional groups. Chromatographic separation revealed a compound obtained at a retention factor of 0.4. The compound isolated was named 3a-Methyl-oxo-1-(3,4,5-trihydroxy-6-hydroxymethyl-tetrahydro-pyran-2-yloxy)-octahydro-indene-5-carboxylic acid using the information provided by the FTIR and NMR, respectively. Conclusion: The result of this research could pave the way for the evaluation of the pharmacological activities of the isolated compound, thereby providing scientific validation for the ethnomedicinal usage of Albizia chevaieri leaf in the treatment of different numerous diseases.

Abstract

Background: chronic kidney disease (CKD) is often undetected until reaching advanced stages, posing a serious public health concern. In Kendari City, Indonesia, lifestyle shifts and increased sedentary behaviour have raised concerns about rising CKD prevalence. Physical inactivity is suspected to be a modifiable risk factor, but local empirical data remain limited. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the association between physical activity levels and early kidney function decline, as indicated by urine protein concentration, among adults in Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi. Methods: A cross-sectional quantitative study was conducted from June to August 2023, involving 119 adults aged 17–75 years selected through purposive sampling across three urban sub-districts. Physical activity was assessed using the International Physical Activity Questionnaire–Short Form (IPAQ-SF) and categorized into low (<600 METs/week), moderate (600–2999), and high (≥3000). Kidney function was measured through morning urine protein dipstick tests and classified into normal, low, moderate, or severe proteinuria. Data were analysed using chi-square, linear regression, and multinomial logistic regression tests. Results: The average physical activity level was 1560.37 ± 1516.78 METs/week (moderate), and the mean urine protein level was 0.64 ± 1.08 g/L (low risk). A statistically significant inverse relationship was found between physical activity and urine protein levels (p < 0.001; β = -0.394). Participants with high physical activity had 100% normal proteinuria, while those with low activity had the highest rates of moderate (32.6%) and severe (30.4%) proteinuria. Multinomial regression indicated that individuals with high activity were 27 million times more likely to have normal protein levels compared to those with low activity (p < 0.001), suggesting a strong protective effect. Conclusion: Lower physical activity is significantly associated with increased risk of impaired kidney function in urban adults. Public health strategies should prioritize structured physical activity promotion and early screening to prevent CKD progression in Kendari City. Further research is needed to examine other contributing factors such as diet, hydration, and lifestyle behaviours.
