Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to examine the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum in Islamic Education (PAI) learning, covering the aspects of planning, implementation, and evaluation, as well as how this curriculum contributes to shaping students' independent character at SMP Sumpah Pemuda Jakarta Barat. Methodology/approach –The research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Triangulation techniques are applied to ensure the validity of data collected through in-depth interviews with the School Principal, Vice Principal for Curriculum Affairs, PAI teachers, and student representatives, as well as direct classroom observations . Findings – The research findings indicate that the planning of the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum is carried out collaboratively between the school administration and PAI teachers, although challenges remain in understanding the new curriculum. In its implementation, learning focuses more on practical activities rather than theoretical lessons, such as memorizing Quranic verses, which has proven effective in fostering students’ independence. Meanwhile, the evaluation process is conducted holistically, combining written tests, oral assessments, and practical worship evaluations, all of which contribute to strengthening students' independent character. Novelty/value – This study provides new insights by demonstrating that the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Curriculum in PAI learning has a positive impact on developing students' independent character. However, challenges remain, particularly in teachers' and schools' understanding of the new curriculum. The uniqueness of this research lies in its holistic evaluation approach and its focus on student independence within the context of religious education.

Abstract

Problem-Based Learning (PBL) has been widely recognized as an effective pedagogical model for improving students’ understanding of science by encouraging active engagement, critical thinking, and problem-solving. This study aimed to analyze conceptually how the application of PBL can enhance students’ comprehension in natural science learning at the elementary school level. A library research design was employed, drawing upon books, journal articles, and relevant prior studies, which were systematically reviewed and synthesized to examine theoretical foundations, practical implementations, and empirical findings of PBL in science education. The analysis revealed that PBL facilitates higher-order thinking skills by providing authentic problem contexts that require inquiry, collaboration, and reflective learning, thereby improving students’ conceptual mastery and their ability to connect scientific principles with real-life experiences. Furthermore, PBL was shown to strengthen creativity, motivation, communication, and collaboration among learners, making it an appropriate model to prepare students with competencies aligned to 21st-century education. The novelty of this study lies in its contextualization of PBL within Indonesian elementary education, highlighting both its theoretical potential and practical relevance for improving science literacy. The findings imply that educators, curriculum developers, and policymakers should consider integrating PBL as a strategic instructional model to enhance the quality of science teaching and learning, while future studies are encouraged to validate these insights through classroom-based empirical research.

Abstract

This study uses a systematic literature review, or SLR, to examine the role of information and communication technology (ICT) in driving global economic integration. This study uses a systematic literature review, or SLR, to examine the role of information and communication technology (ICT) in driving global economic integration. Through the use of bibliometric analysis using the VOSviewer and PRISMA method, the study identifies research trends, collaborative efforts, and theoretical and empirical knowledge found in the literature from 1990 to 2025. This research focuses on systematic literature (Lit Sistematis). The results show that ICT growth and global economic integration have increased significantly since 2005, with the United States, the United Kingdom, and China making the largest contributions. The theoretical implications highlight the need for more holistic concepts and lengthy studies, while the practical implications highlight the importance of adapting ICT strategies to the local context and encouraging international collaboration. This study provides an important guide for ICT development and the integration of the world economy in the digital age.

Abstract

Homeschooling is an alternative approach to education that is currently a topic of extensive discussion within the community, among parents, and among educational professionals. This discussion often revolves around concerns related to how children socialize when they are educated at home. In homeschooling, parents take on the responsibility for their child's education and are directly involved in the teaching process. Research indicates that homeschooling is gaining traction in Indonesia due to a lack of trust in formal schools. This lack of trust is rooted in concerns about constantly changing curricula, perceived burdens on students, a sense that children are treated as objects rather than active learners, limitations in nurturing children's creativity and intelligence, as well as emotional, moral, and spiritual considerations. Additionally, parents are worried about the negative external influences their children might encounter and express dissatisfaction with the formal school system. However, one notable drawback of homeschooling is that it tends to result in lower levels of horizontal socialization, meaning that homeschooled students may have limited exposure to a socially diverse and pluralistic environment. They are more likely to be isolated from broader social interactions. This study takes the form of a case study, and its main objective is to describe and understand the perceptions and backgrounds of students who participate in homeschooling, as well as to explore the challenges and issues associated with this educational approach.
