Abstract

This study aims to thoroughly examine the role of social media in the formation of cultural identity among university students in Semarang Regency. Using a qualitative approach through a case study method, this research explores how students utilize social media as a medium to express, reinforce, and preserve their local cultural values, including traditions, regional languages, and cultural practices, while simultaneously interacting with influences from global cultures. The findings reveal that the majority of students actively use various social media platforms to showcase cultural content rooted in their regions, making social media not only a space for social communication but also a cultural negotiation arena. This process results in a hybrid cultural identity, a dynamic blend between authentic local values and adopted and adapted global cultural elements. Besides offering significant opportunities for digital cultural preservation and development, social media also presents challenges in the form of cultural value conflicts requiring adaptation skills, selective filtering, and critical reflection from students as cultural agents. The study recommends that students use social media wisely and critically to maintain the authenticity and sustainability of local culture, while educational and cultural institutions should actively support the innovative use of social media as a means to preserve and develop culture. These findings contribute important insights into the dynamics of cultural identity amid the evolving digital and globalized era.

Abstract

Abstract Revitalization of traditional snacks as healthy and aesthetic desserts is an innovative strategy in strengthening local culinary identity in the hospitality industry. This study aims to examine the process of modifying traditional market snacks to meet the aesthetic and health standards of five-star hotels, with a case study at Gumaya Tower Hotel Semarang. The approach used is descriptive qualitative with a single case study method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation of chefs, food and beverage managers, and hotel guests. The results of the study indicate that innovation is carried out through substituting unhealthy ingredients with natural ingredients, modern serving techniques, and inserting local cultural values through storytelling. Hotel guest responses showed a high level of satisfaction with the visual appearance and health value, although some noted a change in taste from the traditional version. This revitalization also has a positive impact on the hotel's image, strengthens product differentiation, and supports the preservation of Nusantara culinary culture. These findings are important as a basis for developing sustainable culinary innovations based on local wisdom and can be applied in other hospitality industries.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of social media in increasing brand awareness of newly established hotels in Semarang City that have been operating for a maximum of three years. The research is based on the growing importance of social media as an effective digital promotional tool, especially for new hotels that have yet to establish a strong reputation in the market. A qualitative approach was used with a case study method involving three new hotels: REZ Hotel Semarang, NusaTu Hotel, and KoenoKoeni Hotel. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with marketing managers and hotel guests, observation of social media activities, and digital documentation. The findings show that social media plays a significant role in shaping public perception of hotel brands through visual content, storytelling, and direct user interaction. All three hotels experienced an increase in followers, user engagement, and bookings from social media, particularly during the first six months of operation. Although challenges such as limited human resources and content consistency were noted, social media strategies proved effective and efficient in building brand awareness. These findings highlight the strategic importance of social media in the digital marketing of new hotels.

Abstract

This study investigates the potential of online visitor reviews as valid indicators of service quality and sustainability in culinary tourism destinations, focusing on Semarang Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. Amidst the increasing reliance on digital platforms for travel-related decision-making, the research addresses a critical problem: how user-generated content (UGC) can accurately reflect visitors’ experiences and perceptions, and how this information can be leveraged to support the sustainable development and continuous improvement of culinary tourism. The main objective is to extract key service quality dimensions and sustainability-related elements from online reviews by employing an integrative methodological framework. A mixed-method approach was adopted, combining Natural Language Processing (NLP) specifically sentiment classification using Support Vector Machine (SVM) with qualitative thematic analysis using NVivo software. The data were collected from prominent digital platforms such as Google Reviews, TripAdvisor, and Instagram, representing diverse and large-scale visitor feedback. The analysis revealed that dimensions of service quality namely reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy, and tangibles frequently emerged in visitor comments, aligning with the SERVQUAL model. In parallel, sustainability indicators such as the promotion of local cultural identity, environmental cleanliness, waste management, and empowerment of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) were also prominent. These findings demonstrate that online reviews provide a rich, real-time, and scalable source of data that can support evidence-based strategies for improving culinary destination services and sustainability. The study contributes both theoretically and practically by offering a big data driven model for tourism evaluation. However, the research also acknowledges limitations in NLP accuracy for local dialects and informal expressions, as well as the digital divide that limits inclusivity. Future studies should refine linguistic models and expand the geographic scope for comparative insights.

Abstract

This study focuses on improving digital literacy and formal Indonesian language proficiency among the Indonesian diaspora community in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The community faces challenges in adapting to digital technology and maintaining linguistic and cultural identity, which limits their socio-economic participation and engagement in community activities. The objective of this research is to develop and implement a community-based program that enhances digital skills while promoting national language usage and cultural preservation. The program employed a participatory and interactive approach, including workshops, hands-on practice, mentoring, role-play, and storytelling, targeting 30 participants comprising youth, MSME actors, teachers, village officials, and housewives. Pre-test and post-test evaluations, direct observation, and interviews were used to assess the impact of the program. The results show significant improvements in digital literacy, with participants demonstrating enhanced skills in e-mail usage, document sharing, e-wallet applications, and digital security awareness, with post-test gains ranging from 40% to 45%. Likewise, proficiency in formal Indonesian language, public speaking, and cultural knowledge increased by 25% to 28%, reflecting both technical and cultural skill development. The findings indicate that community-based, participatory learning integrated with cultural reinforcement effectively bridges the digital divide and strengthens linguistic identity among diaspora communities. The study concludes that such a hybrid model not only empowers participants in digital and linguistic capacities but also promotes cultural sustainability and social cohesion, offering a scalable and replicable framework for similar communities.

Abstract

Abstract. This study examines the application of Agile Management principles in online learning platforms, focusing on the challenges and benefits experienced during implementation. Through qualitative research, including interviews and case studies, the research explores how platforms have adopted Agile practices, such as iterative cycles, regular feedback, and flexibility, to enhance responsiveness and adaptability. The findings reveal that the majority of platforms have integrated Agile principles, with a significant focus on overcoming challenges like resistance to change and a lack of training. Participants reported improved collaboration, increased efficiency, and the ability to respond to changes effectively. However, challenges remain, including the need for hybrid models combining Agile with traditional management frameworks. This study contributes valuable insights into the effectiveness of Agile practices in educational technology and offers directions for future research on enhancing Agile implementation in diverse educational settings.
