Abstract

This study examines the determinants of investment behavior among the Muhammadiyah Young Generation in Indonesia by integrating Muhammad Abu Zahrah's Maqasid Syariah perspective into the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) framework. Data were collected from 300 purposively sampled respondents aged 18–40 years in Medan, Jakarta, Surabaya, Malang, and Yogyakarta between March and April 2026 using a 1–5 Likert scale questionnaire. Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4.1 was employed to test 15 hypotheses concerning the direct effects of Islamic Financial Literacy (X1), Self-Confidence (X2), Digital Technology (X3), Lifestyle (X4), and Religiosity (X5) on Investment Behavior (Y), as well as moderation by Unstable Income (M1), Risk Tolerance (M2), and Influencer (M3). All 15 hypotheses were supported, with effect sizes (f²) ranging from small to medium: Islamic Financial Literacy emerged as the strongest predictor (β = 0.287; f² = 0.142), reflecting Hifz al-Aql; Lifestyle ranked second (β = 0.241; f² = 0.101), representing tanmiyyah al-mal; followed by Self-Confidence (β = 0.201; f² = 0.073), Religiosity (β = 0.189; f² = 0.061), and Digital Technology (β = 0.163; f² = 0.048). Unstable Income weakened three main effects, Risk Tolerance strengthened three, and influencers produced contextually variable moderation with small effect sizes. The five independent variables and three moderators explained 57.0% of the variance in investment behavior (R² = 0.570; SRMR = 0.062; NFI = 0.924). The primary limitations are the organizational specificity of the sample (restricting generalizability beyond Muhammadiyah populations) and its cross-sectional design. This study contributes an empirically validated Islamic Investment Behavior Model grounded in Abu Zahrah's Maqasid Syariah.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of E-Accounting on the revenue of MSMEs in North Sumatra Province, addressing the gap in existing literature regarding the role of accounting literacy. The study also explores the challenges faced by MSMEs in adopting E-Accounting. Using a mixed-methods approach with an exploratory sequential design, quantitative data were collected through structured questionnaires from 271 MSMEs across seven districts/cities, analyzed using PLS-SEM. Qualitative data were gathered from in-depth interviews with 20 purposively selected MSMEs. The results show that E-Accounting significantly positively affects MSME revenue, but accounting literacy does not serve as a significant moderating variable, implying that the benefits of E-Accounting in increasing revenue do not rely solely on the users' accounting knowledge. Qualitative findings indicate that while MSMEs recognize the benefits of E-Accounting, they use it mainly for administrative tasks rather than strategic decision-making. Common challenges include limited digital infrastructure, lack of training, and dependence on intuition. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of Sharia principles, such as amanah and hifz al-mal, offering insights into how Islamic values shape MSME financial practices. This study provides practical, culturally relevant recommendations for improving E-Accounting adoption and enhancing MSMEs' financial resilience through the alignment of technology and ethics.

Abstract

Islamic banking in Indonesia has existed for more than three decades; however, its market share of the national banking industry has remained stagnant at around 6–7%, a figure that is highly disproportionate considering that Indonesia is home to the largest Muslim population in the world. This study aims to identify and analyze the structural and non-structural factors that have contributed to the stagnation of Islamic banking market share in Indonesia through a library research approach. Data were collected and analyzed from various scientific literature sources, Financial Services Authority (OJK) reports, Islamic banking statistics, and relevant regulatory documents. The findings reveal two interrelated fundamental causes. First, structural constraints arise from the ownership structure of Islamic banks, which is predominantly controlled by conventional parent banks, resulting in conflicts of interest, limited capital support, and an unequal position within the banking ecosystem. Second, the low level of Islamic financial literacy among the public has led to weak consumer preference and even misconceptions that Islamic banks are no different from conventional banks. These two factors reinforce one another and create a cycle of stagnation that is difficult to overcome without comprehensive structural intervention. This study recommends ownership reform to enhance the independence of Islamic banks from their conventional parent institutions, the strengthening of massive and sustainable Islamic financial literacy programs, and the reinforcement of regulations and the broader Islamic economic ecosystem. Abstract

This study examines strategies for developing Islamic banking financial inclusion services through Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) Agents as extended outlets for reaching underserved communities. Despite Indonesia’s large Muslim population, the outreach and service quality of Islamic banking remain limited compared to conventional banks, driven by human resource constraints, unattractive incentive structures, limited product and service features, aggressive competition from conventional bank agents, and inadequate infrastructure in remote areas. To address these challenges, this study employs the Analytic Network Process (ANP) using a qualitative approach based on expert judgment. Primary data were collected through in-depth interviews with five expert informants comprising academics, BSI practitioners, and regulators. Data collection involved observation, interviews, questionnaires, documentation, and literature review, and the analysis was conducted using the Super Decisions software. Kendall’s Coefficient of Concordance (W) was applied to assess the level of agreement among experts. The results indicate that the most critical constraints are low employee awareness, limited agent competence, unattractive incentive structures, and infrastructure limitations in remote areas. Priority solutions include increasing dedicated human resources for agent management, integrating agent performance into key performance indicators (KPIs), expanding product and service features, and strengthening below-the-line promotion. At the strategic level, the findings highlight the importance of strengthening human resources, developing robust and user-friendly digital agent platforms, and implementing cluster-based agent management. The Kendall’s W values indicate a moderate level of expert agreement, supporting the robustness of the ANP results. This study contributes to the literature on Islamic banking and financial inclusion by providing empirical, strategy-oriented insights into the development of agent-based Islamic banking services. The findings offer practical implications for banks, regulators, and policymakers seeking to strengthen inclusive, sustainable, and competitive Islamic banking ecosystems

Abstract

This study aims to explore the decisions of non-Muslims to become Third Party Fund (DPK) customers at Bank Sumut Capem Syariah Perdagangan, focusing on service quality and perceptions of the fairness of the profit-sharing system. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method. The informants included branch managers, customer service representatives, fund marketers, and non-Muslim customers with sharia savings, current accounts, and time deposits. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation. Data analysis employed the Miles and Huberman model, which encompasses data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and verification. The results indicate that the decisions of non-Muslims to become DPK customers at Bank Sumut Capem Syariah Perdagangan are driven by rational and economic considerations. Inclusive, friendly, responsive, and non-discriminatory service quality builds initial customer trust in sharia banks. Furthermore, the profit-sharing system in Mudharabah products is perceived as fair, transparent, and profitable, as profits are aligned with fund management performance. For Wadi'ah products, customers consider competitive administration fees and bonuses attractive added value. Other factors influencing decisions include recommendations between traders and a heterogeneous social environment. Research findings indicate that the principles of fairness, transparency, and service quality are the primary reasons non-Muslims choose DPK products at Bank Sumut Capem Syariah Perdagangan.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of microinsurance understanding and risk mitigation on the business resilience of microinsurance participating MSMEs in Medan's Central Market Center. This research uses a quantitative method with the SEM-PLS approach through the SmartPLS 4 application, with a sample of 95 respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique. The results of the data analysis indicate that the Microinsurance Understanding variable has a positive and significant influence on MSME business resilience (t = 3.379; p = 0.001). In contrast, the Risk Mitigation variable does not show a significant influence on MSME business resilience (t = 0.367; p = 0.714). This is influenced by the very high conceptual overlap in the eyes of respondents between the two independent variables (HTMT = 0.982), where business actors consider concrete risk mitigation actions to be inherent in the microinsurance instrument itself. Simultaneously, this model is able to explain the variance in MSME business resilience by 37.2% (R^2 = 0.372). These findings indicate that deepening insurance literacy is a crucial key to increasing the financial resilience of business actors in the face of economic uncertainty.
