Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a non-communicable and chronic disease; this disease is also generally very closely related to people who are elderly and female. This study aims to determine the effect of age, body mass index, and blood sugar levels on the incidence of type 2 DM. The population of this study was 55,372, which was obtained from secondary data from the offline surveillance form SIPTM (Non-Communicable Disease Information System), Johar Baru Health Center, South Jakarta, 2020; the sample used total sampling. Data analysis using SPSS Ver.25, with bivariate (Chi-Square test) and multivariate (Logistic Regression Enter Method) analysis. The Chi-Square test results showed that the variables of age, body mass index, and blood sugar levels had an association with the incidence of Type 2 DM with a p-value <0.05. The multivariate test results showed that the most influential variable was the blood sugar level variable, with a p-value of 0.00, with OR = 93,302. This means that people with abnormal blood sugar levels have a 93,302 times chance of developing Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus compared to people with normal blood sugar levels. Therefore, the most effective preventive measure for this disease is maintaining blood sugar levels in a normal state to avoid the incidence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, namely by diligently checking blood sugar levels and maintaining a healthy diet and life.

Abstract

The management of back pain in pregnant women using endorphin massage is an urgent need. This method not only helps reduce physical pain but also provides significant emotional and psychological benefits. Endorphin massage therapy can be an effective solution to improve the quality of life of pregnant women during pregnancy. This study aims to determine endorphin massage's effect on reducing back pain intensity in third-trimester pregnant women. This research is pre-experimental with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach, conducted at Puskesmas Rismana Pakpahan Ujungbatu in 2024. The population in this study consisted of 100 pregnant women, and the sample was taken using a purposive sampling technique with the criteria of third-trimester pregnant women experiencing back pain, willing to be respondents, and not having pregnancy complications. Based on these criteria, 30 pregnant women were obtained as samples. The statistical test was bivariate with a t-dependent test at 95% significance level. The results showed a significant difference in the average back pain intensity scale before (pre-test) and after (post-test) endorphin massage, with an average decrease of 4.667. The statistical test results showed a p-value of 0.0001, more diminutive than 0.05, indicating a significant relationship between the variables studied. This study concludes that there is a substantial change in the intensity of back pain in pregnant women after being given endorphin massage treatment. These results indicate that endorphin massage therapy is effective in reducing back pain and can be used as a safe and beneficial treatment method for pregnant women.

Abstract

Background: Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is a contagious illness affecting diverse age groups, including toddlers, and is among the top ten reasons for Community Health Center visits. Purpose: This study aims to analyze the influence of dominant risk factors on the incidence of ARI in toddlers. Methods: This study used an observational, analytic-cross sectional approach, at Puskesmas Kampung Lalang, Medan, in 2023. The total population was 394 toddlers (aged 0-59 months).  In the determination of the number of samples using the sample size estimation formula, 198 samples were obtained by purposive sampling. Data analysis used Chi-Square test and Multiple Logistic Regression Enter Methods, with a significance level of 95%. Results: The results showed that the variables of Vitamin A administration (OR = 0.27, 95% CI: 0.10-0.77) and immunization status (OR = 0.36, 95% CI: 0.14-0.93) were associated with a decreased risk of ARI in toddlers. In contrast, exclusive breastfeeding (OR = 2.35, 95% CI: 1.11-5.01) was associated with increased risk, while the physical environment of the house (OR = 2.92, 95% CI: 1.28-6.64) was associated with increased risk of ARI. Conclusion: Vitamin A administration and immunization reduce the risk of respiratory tract infection among under-fives at Puskesmas Kampung Lalang. Exclusive breastfeeding and home conditions increased the same risk. Improving these risk factors is essential to reduce the prevalence of childhood respiratory infections in the area.

Abstract

Abstract

Sleep quality matters most for mental health among social media users—more than screen time, stress, or any demographic factor. We analyzed data from 477 social media users to identify which behavioral and psychosocial factors best predict mental well-being, as measured by a happiness index. Three factors showed significant associations: daily screen time, sleep quality, and stress levels. Respondents who spent more time on screens, slept poorly, and experienced high stress reported worse mental health. But sleep quality dominated. People with good sleep were 5.6 times more likely to report healthy mental wellbeing than those sleeping poorly (OR = 5.559; 95% CI: 2.841-10.878; p < 0.001), even after accounting for screen time and stress. Surprisingly, age, gender, physical activity, and platform choice showed no relationship with mental health. These findings challenge the assumption that simply reducing social media use improves wellbeing. Instead, public health interventions should prioritize sleep hygiene alongside, not instead of, managing screen time and stress. In our increasingly digital world, how we rest may matter more than how much we scroll
