Abstract

Palm Fatty Acid distillate (PFAD) as a byproduct the processing of palm oil has great potential to be used as raw material oil-based polymers. The aims of this research to study the process polymerization of ester from PFAD using initiator (benzoyl peroxide) 0.3%. Stage of the process consists of three stages. The esterification stage was done at temperatur70° C, reaction time of 120 minutes, reactant ratio 1: 8 (PFAD: methanol), concentration of catalyst (H2SO4) 1% (w/w) PFAD; polymerization stage was done at temperature 120, 130,and 140°C, concentration of initiator (benzoyl peroxide) 0.3% (w/w) and variation of polymerization reaction time 3, 4, and 5 hours, and polyesterification stage was done at temperature 175-200 °C, ratio of reactants 1: 1 (polymerized methyl ester: ethylene glycol), and the reaction time of 4 hours. The results of polymerization was analyzed by using viscosity test, FT-IR (Fourier Transform Infra Red) and GCMS (Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry). The highest viscosity was 32,97 mPa.s at temperature 140°C and 4 hours. Theresult using FT-IR showed that the polymerization process was unsuccessful, this was indicated by the presence of the vinyl group. The result of GCMS showed there had been molecular weight addition in polymerization process, that was only three times the initial molecular weight.Keywords: benzoyl peroxide, esterification, palm fatty acid distillate, polymerization

Abstract

Protein foaming-consolidation method is a technique for production of porous tricalcium phosphate (TCP) using egg yolk as pore creating agent. The purpose of this research was to investigate slurry composition and sintering temperature effect on physical, chemical and mechanical properties of porous TCP and characterizing porous TCP as bones implant. This research start by mixing TCP powder,egg yolk, sago powder and Darvan 821A. The slurries were mechanical stirred at 150 rpm for 3 hours. Then, the slurries were casted in a cylindrical stainless stell mold and heated at 180°C for 1 hour. Subsequently, dried samples were demolded and burned at 600°C for 1 hour. For the final steps, samples were sintered at 1000, 1100 and 1200°C for 1 hour. The compressive strength of porous bodies obtained from this research was 2.29-23.78 MPa with 19.10-71.36% porosity and density worth at 0.899 - 2.557 g/cm3. Abstract

Boiler is an equipment to generate steam. Steam has heat value in which used for some process. In this case, steam has been used for liftingoil from reservoir as an enhanced oil recovery. Operate boiler efficiently is a must. Operate boiler more efficiently can be achieved by fuel gas and air combustion adjustment. The objectives of this research are to know influences of excess oxygen for boiler efficiency and to know right composition between fuel gas and air combustion. Fix variables in this research are feed water flow (110 GPM) and heat value of fuel gas (1,000 BTU/scf). Fuel gas flow and air combustion flow are the adjustable variable. Fuel gas flow was adjusted in 5 flow variances (1050, 1070, 1090, 1110, and 1130 MSCFD). Air combustion flow was adjusted in 5 flow variances (70, 75, 80, 85, and 90% of louver opening). According to analysis results, the most efficient of boiler operation was 81.55%. That was achieved by 1050 MSCFD of fuel gas flow and 70% of air combustion flow. Boiler efficiency will decrease 2% in every 1% of excess oxygen increase.Keyword: boiler, steam, combustion, efficiency.

Abstract

The 316L stainless steel is widely used as implant, but it still has some downsides such as low biocompatibility and it will release metal ion in the body. Therefore coating the surface of the metal with hydroxyapatite is done to resolve these problems. Coating thickness is an important parameter in the coating process. The purpose of this research is to study the effect of HA amount to the coating thickness. The procedurs in this research are making of HA slurry, substrate preparation, coating process, drying and sintering. The fixed variables in this research are 3 gram of polyethylene glycol, 54 ml of aquades, stirring rate of 300 rpm for 20 hours, immersion time is 10 seconds, drying at 110 °C for 30 minutes, sintering at 700 °C for 1 hour, one time dipping, substrate starilization for 15 minutes, and substrate drying at 110 °C for 10 minutes. The changeable variable is the amount of HA as much as 18 and 24 gram. This study concluded that the more amount of HA used, the thicker coating thickness achieved. The HA coating thickness achieved in this research are in the range of 126-223 μm.Keywords: coating thickness, dip coating, hydroxyapatite, 316L stainless steel.

Abstract

Steam injection is a heat transfer process to petroleum reservoir through multiphase flow of wet steam. Estimating pressure drop in multiphase flow is more difficult than for single-phase flow. Multiphase flow is a complex phenomenon because of the interdependence of various variables that affecting pressure drop such as flow regime, hold up, flow geometry at horizontal, vertical or deviated, flow rate of each phase and the fluid properties of each phase. The purpose of this study is to find out the most appropriate model to calculate the pressure drop in steam injection wells and understand parameters that most affecting pressure drop. Research methodology for this study is descriptive analysis. Field data from 30 injection wells in Duri field are collected and compared with 2 variations of Beggs-Brill and Moody equation, which are the original model and the model with Palmer correction. Both models are translated into a simple computing program using Excel application. Calculation result from the model is compared with the measurement results to understand the deviation or error. As the result of this study, it is shown that Beggs-Brill and Moody model without Palmer correction is suitable for steam injection application. Average error is only 0,2% with a standard deviation of 3,32%. Further information is obtained from the sensitivity analysis that the accuracy of pressure drop calculation is affected by measurement accuracy of the steam flow rate, steam quality and steam temperature. Abstract

Technologies in era of globalization had been improved especially for human health in biomedical. Magnetite/Hydroxyapatite composite is one of new promising idea as drug carrier for a drug delivery application. The purpose of this research is synthesis of the composite by using magnetite & hydroxyapatite, and analyze the effect of percentage of Fe and heating temperature to the characteristic of the composite were produced by using precipitation method. The powder of magnetite was dispersed in 50 ml of aquadest and mixed with Ca(NO3)2.4H2O for 30 minutes, and (NH4)2HPO4 added to the suspense. The pH of suspension was controlled by added NH4OH 25% until pH 11 with reaction for 120 minutes at 90ºC. The suspension was aged for 1 day, washed and separated the precipitated from suspense. The precipitate was dried until 1 day at 70ºC and ended with calcined the precipitate for 3 hours at 400ºC until powder of composite was collected. The powder of composite was characterized with XRD, and VSM. The higher heating temperature to 90ºC had affected higher crystallinity from 80.68% to 86.58%. However, the higher percentage of Fe had affected the crystal size of magnetite from 14.744 nm to 19.894 nm, with a good magnetization value was 8.81 emu/g. Based on the resulted from characterized of the composite, were concluded for the synthesis of composite magnetite/hydroxyapatite were succeeded and can be applied as a drug carrier in the drug delivery system. Abstract

The needs for industrial wastewater treatment for heavy metal have been a concern. Adsorption using hydroxyapatite (HAp) as adsorbent is one of the choice to remove heavy metal content economically and efficiently. The objective of this research is to study the effect of temperature and weight of adsorbent in adsorption as well as determine adsorption equilibrium model in the lead ion adsorption using Langmuir, Freundlich, and Temkin model. Lead (Pb2+) solution of 5 ppm was added with 0.9 gram, 1.0 gram, and 1.2 gram of HAp in a beaker glass and stirred with stirring rate of 300 rpm and temperature variation of 30°C, 40°C, dan 50°C. Solution samples was taken every 10 minutes until equilibrium and and analyzed for the remaining Pb2+ using ICP-OES instrument. The results showed that the increase of temperature reduce the rate of Pb2+ adsorption and increased of the weight of adsorbent increase the percentage of adsorption. The equilibrium time of lead ion adsorption is 50 minutes, with optimum condition obtained on 30°C and hydroxyapatite adition 1.2 gram. Equilibrium model describes the heat of adsorption and thermodynamics parameter of adsorption process, ∆H = -0.53 kJ/mole, ∆G < 0, ∆S = -144.1406 kJ/mole). Abstract

Morphology and properties of composites PP/NR is influenced by the condition of the rawmaterial mixing process between the phase and compatibility. The purpose of this study was toinvestigated the effect of blend content filler fly ash and mixing temperature on morphology andmechanical properties of polypropylene (PP)/NR composite. Filler size is reduced by MechanicalMilling process until the filler size ≤ 700 nm. Variation of blend kontent fly ash (reducted particlesize) 30, 40, 50 and 60 phr were studied in order to determine the optimum content of fly ash(reducted particle size). The rubber compound  has been made by two roll mill at ambienttemperature and 20 rpm rotor speed. Dynamic vulcanization was done on internal mixer at variousmixing temperature 170 oC, 175 oC, 180 oC , and 185 oC. Rotor speed on internal mixer at 60 rpm.The mechanical properties was done by Universal Testing Machine (UTM) and the morphologywas examined by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The optimum result was found at thecontent of fly ash (reducted particle size) 40 phr and the optimum temperature  was 175oC. The bestmechanical properties was given on tensile strength 4,3 MPa, elongation at break 28,1 % and modulus elastic 104,2 MPa.Keywords: ash oil, composites PP / NR, mechanical properties, natural rubber,  polypropylen.

Abstract

Magnetite/Hydroxyapatite composite is one of the media as drug carrier for a drug delivery system. The purpose of this research is synthesis of the composite, and analysing the effect of percentage of Fe and sintering temperature to the characteristic of the composite. The powder of magnetite was dispersed in 100 ml of aquadest and mixed with 33,7 mmol Ca(NO3)2.4H2O for 15 minutes, and 20 mmol (NH4)2HPO4 added to the suspense. The pH of suspension was controlled by added NH4OH 25% until pH 11 and left for reacting for 120 minutes at 90ºC. The suspension was aged for 1 day, washed and then the precipitate was separated from the suspense. The precipitate was dried for 1 day at 90ºC and ended with sintering the precipitate for 2 hours at variable temperature until powder of composite was collected. The powder of composite was characterized with XRD, VSM and FESEM. The increase of sintering temperature from 400ºC to 800ºC affecting the sample crystallinity from 14,22% to 22,55% and the magnetic saturation value from 17,2 emu/g to 4,0 emu/g. Based on the resulted from characterized of the composite, concluded that the synthesis of composite magnetite/hydroxyapatite were succeeded.Keywords :drug carrier, hydroxyapatite, composite, magnetite, coprecipitation

Abstract

Hydroxyapatite (HAp, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) is one of the calcium phosphate compounds, which is the main inorganic component of human’s hard tissue such as bones and teeth. Hydroxyapatite (HAp) is a material used as an implant, adsorbent, and catalyst. The purpose of this study were to obtained product of hydroxyapatite from duck egg shell, studied the effect of variations in pH and reaction time on diameter of crystals and degree crystallinity of hydroxyapatite, and obtained the optimum conditions based on variations given. In this study, duck egg shell PCC and (NH4)2HPO4 were reacted using hydrothermal vessels with variations in pH of reactants at 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12, reaction time 15 and 16 hours, ratio of Ca/P 1,77 and HAp being synthesized at 140oC. The results were analyzed using X-Ray Diffractometer (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM-EDX), and Brunaeur-Emmet-Teller (BET). The result shows, the best hydroxyapatite were obtained at 15 hours of reaction time and pH 12 with diameter of crystals 26,91 nm, crystallinity 74,28%, ratio of Ca/P 1,60, and surface area 30,017 m²/g.Keywords: Hydroxyapatite, Hydrothermal, Crystallinity, PCC
