Abstract

The aims of this study were to identify and to measure the prevalence of intestinal worm infections in free-ranging domestic cats in Bali. As many as 133 cat fecal samples were collected from Bali and preserved in sodium acetic formaldehyde solution. Coproscopy method (sedimentation concentration and flotation techniques) was used to identify the eggs of helminthes. Based on fecal examination, eggs of four helminthes species : Toxocara, Ancylostoma, Cestoda and Capillaria were identified. This result indicates the prevalence of intestinal worms in free ranging domestic cats were high, consisting of Toxocara sp (71.43%), Ancylostoma sp (37.59%), Cestoda (19.55%) and Capillaria sp (0.75%). Therefore, it is needed to conduct programs to reduce and eradicate that helminthes. Abstract

In general, ablation means the loss of tissue that is characterized by the presence of wounds. Skin ablation is characterized by dislodging of the skin from the tissue which causes wide open wounds. A local dog 4 months old, 4 kg body weight and male sex were examined at the Educational Animal Hospital, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Udayana University with complaints of open wounds due to dislodged skin on the left metatarsal caused by sharp incisions with a diameter of about 3 cm. Handling the skin ablation with surgery with a skin graft technique. The wound healing of skin grafts is determined by animal care, namely by keeping the wound dressing always in dry condition, preventing animals from licking the skin of the donor, and administering anti-inflammatory syrup with amoxsan syrup for 7 days.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the resistance of goat meat stored at room temperature. This study used a completely randomized design with 3 times of observation time, namely at the 8th, 16th and 24th hours in which 5 samples were examined for each observation. Testing of goat meat samples begins with subjective and objective physical tests, then the Eber test, then carried out a H2S test. The results showed that the five samples were not significantly different (P>0.05) with respect to consistency, texture, and significantly (P<0.05) in the color, smell, pH value, water content and water binding capacity, Eber test, and H2S test. At 16 and 24 hours, the color of the goats changes to brownish red, has a foul odor, the content becomes soft, the texture of the five meats has become coarse, a decrease in pH value, decreased water content and increased water binding capacity. In the Eber test, there was steam on the tube wall and for the H2S test, brown spots were seen on the tissue paper where this process of decay had occurred. From this research it can be concluded that, goat meat stored at room temperature decomposes at 16 hours. It is recommended that put the goat meat at room temperature, preferably no more than 16 hours and to maintain its quality, goat meat can be stored at cold temperatures.

Abstract

Abstract

Pigs are livestock that have relatively rapid growth and development, as a source of animal protein has a high economic value. However, raising pigs is often infected with the Hog cholera virus. Hog Cholera is characterized by sudden death with high morbidity and mortality. Disease control through vaccination has been carried out, but cases of disease still occur. The success of vaccination can be influenced by various factors, including: the vaccine factor, the implementer, and the animal factor. This study aims to determine the maternal antibody titer of piglets from sows who have been vaccinated against hog cholera. The study used 10 samples of piglets from sows that had been vaccinated. Serum samples were taken on days 7, 14, and 21. Antibody titers were checked using ELISA. The data obtained were analyzed using analysis of variance. The results showed that there was a significant decrease in maternal antibody titers (p<0.05) on the 14th and 21st days compared to the 7th day. There is a significant relationship (p<0.05) between age (days) and the value of optical density (OD) of maternal antibodies, the correlation coefficient is 0.852, with the equation Y=1.195e-0.021X. The conclusion is that the older the piglets are, the lower the OD value will be, but the longer the decline is, the smaller the decrease. At the age of 42 days, the maternal antibody OD value will reach 0.50, so it is feasible to be vaccinated.
