Abstract

‘Ramadhan (Arabic Version)’ to uncover the spiritual and connotative meanings hidden within them. Given that Arabic pop song lyrics are currently a popular means of intellectual communication among Gen Z, Michael Riffaterre's semiotic analysis, with its concepts of double reading, hypogram, matrix, and variant, was chosen as the methodological approach. This qualitative descriptive study used observation and note-taking techniques and literature study, with song lyrics as the main object. The results of the analysis show that heuristic (literal) reading produces separate denotative meanings, such as in the phrase فَالشّوقُ طَال (longing has been long). However, the presence of ungrammatical elements such as the personification of Ramadan as لِلرُّوحِ دَوَاء (‘medicine for the soul’) forces the reader towards the hermeneutic (retroactive) stage. Hermeneutic reading reveals the core Matrix of the lyrics, namely Longing for Ramadan, which is transformed through the Model of a call (munada) full of love ( يَا حَبِيب). Variants such as يَا نُورُ الْهِلاَلْ and يَا شَهرَ القُرآن serve to reinforce this Matrix. This song uses the hypogram of piety (QS. Al-Baqarah: 197) and ends with a prayer that reflects the resolution of the poetic tension between the desire for eternity and the transience of time. This study confirms the effectiveness of Riffaterre's model in exploring spiritual and symbolic values in contemporary Arabic music.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of understanding literary works through their intrinsic structure, particularly in revealing how narrative elements construct meaning and social criticism. This study aims to analyze the factual elements of the story in the novel Afrah al Qubbah by Naghuib Mahfouz usin Robert Staton’s Structuralism approach. The focus of this study includes three intrinsic elements, namely characters, plot and setting. The method used is descriptive qualitative, with data collection techniques in the form of reading and note-taking of the novel text. The data source in this study is the novel Afrah al Qubbah, wich is analyzed based on the structural relationship among intrinsic elements. The result show that characters, plot and setting have structural interconnections that form a unifed story. Abbas, as the main character, becomes the center of conflict through the manuscript he writes, which reveals family realities and generates moral, emotional, and social tensions. The plot develops through the stage of exposition, complication, climax and resolution, which strengthen the tragic nuance of the story. The social, spatial, and temporal settings also support the development of conflict and reflect the breakdown of values in society. Overall, these theree elements construct meaning and present social criticism. The implications of this study indicate that structural analysis can enhance literary understanding, improve crictical reading skills and support literature learning.

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of Arab family values in Kamil Kaylani's short story As-Sinjabu As-Shoghir through Lucien Goldmann's genetic structuralism approach. This short story was chosen because it contains ideological tensions between traditional Arab values and the dynamics of modernity in the early 20th century. The analysis was conducted to reveal the dialectical relationship between narrative structure and social structure through the concept of human facts as a form of meaningful action in a social context. The method used was qualitative-descriptive with literary text analysis focusing on intrinsic elements and the configuration of human facts. The results of the study show that this short story represents the Arab patriarchal system as a fundamental fait social, with the father figure occupying the center of moral and social authority. The main values reproduced include ṭā‘ah (obedience) as the highest virtue, collective responsibility, patriarchal authority, female honor as a symbol of family morality, and the construction of knowledge as a threat to women. The text also displays ideological contradictions, particularly between isolation and protection and between women's moral ideals and their limited social space. These contradictions reflect the limited awareness of the modern Arab middle class, which seeks to preserve tradition while negotiating with modern values. Theoretically, this study confirms the function of children's literature as a medium for the reproduction of social ideology during the historical transition phase of Arab society. Abstract

This study examines the prosodic structure and moral messages in the Qaṣīdah ʿAmadtu ʾIlayka Khayra al-Nāsi Ḥayyan by al-Farazdaq, a panegyric qaṣīdah (madḥ) consisting of 65 verses. Using a descriptive qualitative approach and library research method, this study applies ʿilm al-ʿarūḍ (metre), qawāfī (rhyme), and moral message theory for prosodic analysis and ethical value interpretation. The findings reveal that the qaṣīdah is composed in baḥr wāfir with a consistent base pattern of مُفَاعَلَتُنْ مُفَاعَلَتُنْ فَعُوْلُنْ  throughout all 65 verses. All positions of ʿarūḍ (end of the first hemistich) and ḍarb (end of the second hemistich) undergo ʿillat qatf (elision of the light cause and vowelling of the fifth consonant), while 53 verses undergo zihāf ʿaṣb (quiescence of the fifth vowelled consonant) in the ḥasyw (medial foot) position. The rawī (rhyme-determining letter) is mīm (م), classified as Muṭlaqah Mujarradah Mawṣūlah bil-Līn of the Mutawātir type. Moral message analysis identifies four categories of values: the human relationship with God, with oneself, with others, and with nature. These findings demonstrate that al-Farazdaq's prosodic mastery and moral depth are two mutually reinforcing dimensions that cannot be separated.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the changes in rhyme and rhythm as well as the thematic content of the qaṣīdah Faidhotul Man Min Rohmati Wahhabil Manan composed by Umar bin Muhammad bin Salim bin Hafidz, using the approach of ʿarūḍ (Arabic prosody) and qawāfī (rhyme theory). The qaṣīdah, as a form of classical Arabic poetry, features a distinctive metrical and rhyming structure that serves not only as an aesthetic element but also as a medium for conveying spiritual and religious messages. The research method employed is descriptive qualitative, using textual analysis techniques from Arabic literary studies. The analysis reveals that this qaṣīdah demonstrates variations in rhythm (wazn) and rhyme (qāfiyah) patterns while maintaining semantic coherence and the musical integrity of the poem. In terms of theme, the qaṣīdah contains praise for the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), affirmation of divine mercy, and expressions of spiritual longing and submission to Allah.

Abstract

In Arabic grammar, the mubtada’ is generally required to be an isim ma‘rifah. However, Arabic texts frequently employ isim nakirah as the mubtada’, raising questions about the linguistic factors that permit its use. This study aims to identify the types and functions of musawwighāt al-mubtada’ bi an-nakirah in Awa’iq Ath-Thalab by Shaykh Abdus Salam bin Barjas based on Ibn Hisyām al-Anṣārī’s theory in Mughnī al-Labīb. This study employs a qualitative approach using the library research method. Data were collected through reading and note-taking by identifying sentences containing musawwighāt al-mubtada’ bi an-nakirah and analyzing them according to Ibn Hisyām al-Anṣārī’s framework. The findings reveal four types of musawwighāt al-mubtada’ bi an-nakirah: the general nakirah, the qualified nakirah, the nakirah whose predicate is a zharf, jar-majrūr, or jumlah, and the governing nakirah. The identified functions are ta‘mīm and takhṣīṣ. These findings indicate that the mubtada’ nakirah in Awa’iq Ath-Thalab is predominantly used to convey general meanings, advice, and motivation. This study contributes to Arabic syntactic studies by applying the theory of musawwighāt al-mubtada’ bi an-nakirah to the analysis of an Islamic classical text.

Abstract

This study aims to describe how Mahmoud Darwish’s poem ‘Ala Hadzihi Al-Ardh Ma Yastahiqqu Al-Hayah represents life through poetic signs and how forms of resistance are interpreted and articulated based on Roland Barthes’ semiotic approach. This study employed a qualitative descriptive method using library research and documentation techniques. The research data consist of poetic lines containing linguistic signs, imagery, and symbols, which were analyzed at the levels of denotation, connotation, and myth. The findings reveal that the representation of life is constructed through poetic signs derived from nature, everyday life, culture, and women's experiences, portraying life as a resilient force that endures amid oppression. Meanwhile, the representation of resistance is interpreted and articulated through collective memory, hope, courage, art, and love for the homeland as expressions of preserving identity and humanity. At the level of myth, the poem constructs a discourse in which life and resistance are inseparable elements in sustaining the identity and existence of the Palestinian people. The findings further indicate that Darwish’s poem represents Palestine not merely as a contested geographical territory but also as a humanitarian space that continues to exist through the representations of life and resistance, while simultaneously conveying an ideology of resilience and the struggle against oppression.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the translation techniques used in the book Syarah Diwan Imam Asy-Syafi’i by Muhammad Ibrahim Salim and to describe how these translation techniques are realized in the translated text. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive research design. In the data collection stage, the researcher applied a library research technique by using Syarah Diwan Imam al-Shafi‘i by Muhammad Ibrahim Salim as the primary data source, focusing on the poem themed “Anjuran untuk Merantau” (Encouragement to Travel), which consists of seven stanzas. The data were classified based on the translation techniques proposed by Molina and Albir. The data analysis process followed the Miles and Huberman model, which consists of four main steps: (1) data collection, (2) data reduction, (3) data display, and (4) conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that from the seven stanzas of the poem on encouragement to travel, 63 data items were identified. After being classified according to Molina and Albir’s translation techniques, only 10 out of the 18 techniques were found to be used, namely: (1) literal translation with 12 data, (2) transposition with 1 datum, (3) modulation with 12 data, (4) adaptation with 4 data, (5) established equivalence with 5 data, (6) particularization with 3 data, (7) reduction with 15 data, (8) substitution with 3 data, (9) amplification with 5 data, and (10) linguistic amplification with 5 data.
