The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze the humanist preaching strategy applied by Hannan Attaki in conveying Islamic messages in the digital era and to what extent the effectiveness of the Islamic communication approach used by Hannan Attaki in grounding Islamic values in the midst of the social life of the digital society. The research method used is Qualitative Content Analysis, Data Collection and Sources using Instametrica and documentation. The results of the study show that the humanist da'wah strategy implemented by Hannan Attaki through digital media has proven effective in conveying Islamic values contextually, empathetically, and inclusively, especially to the young urban generation in the digital era. This approach prioritizes reflective and down-to-earth communication through the use of a relaxed language style, storytelling techniques, and visualizations that are interesting and relevant to the audience's daily life. Hannan's lectures not only build a cognitive understanding of Islam, but also touch the emotional and psychosocial side of the audience, thus encouraging spiritual transformation and behavioral change. By combining the principles of da'wah bil hikmah and a communicative psychosocial approach, Hannan Attaki's da'wah becomes a model of contemporary Islamic communication that not only conveys religious messages, but also creates a friendly, adaptive, and empowering religious space.

Abstract

Academic critical thinking is a crucial competence for university students; however, many still face difficulties in analytical reasoning, evaluative judgment, and reflective thinking due to irrational beliefs and affective barriers. This study aimed to develop and test the effectiveness of a cognitive restructuring counseling model to enhance students’ academic critical thinking. The study employed a research and development approach with mixed methods, involving n = 30 students, and utilized a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. The model was validated by experts, yielding a high feasibility score (M = 4.36; 87.2%). Statistical analysis using a paired-sample t-test revealed a significant improvement in academic critical thinking scores from pretest (M = 61.36) to posttest (M = 80.46), t(29) = XX.XX, p < .05, with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.10). The greatest improvement was observed in metacognitive reflection. These findings indicate that the model effectively promotes rational, reflective, and open thinking patterns by addressing cognitive distortions and affective barriers. The novelty of this study lies in integrating cognitive restructuring counseling with academic critical thinking development within a structured and validated framework, particularly in the context of Islamic higher education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze political communication in mass media reporting in Medan and its implications for contemporary social dynamics. The research focuses on patterns, forms, and impacts of political communication in shaping public responses at the local level. This study employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach. Primary data were collected through in-depth interviews with six purposively selected informants: two journalists, two mass media editors, one political communication academic, and one active media audience member. Secondary data were collected through documentation and literature studies, particularly the analysis of mass media reporting. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and document analysis, while data analysis followed the stages of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source and method triangulation. The findings, derived from both interview data and analysis of media reports, indicate that political communication in Medan’s mass media functions not only as a channel for delivering political information but also as a mechanism for framing issues, personalizing political actors, and dramatizing conflicts. The forms of political communication identified include informative, persuasive, symbolic, interpretive, and confrontational modes. These practices contribute to increased public sensitivity toward local political issues, the shaping of political images of key actors, and the emergence of fragmented perceptions within contemporary society.

Abstract

The existence of non-Islamic cultural heritage sites within predominantly Muslim communities often raises questions regarding the interaction between religious identity and cultural tourism management. This study aims to examine how Islamic values and local wisdom contribute to the development of inclusive cultural tourism at the Bahal Temple in Portibi District, North Padang Lawas, without diminishing the religious identity of each group. This research employs a qualitative method with an anthropological approach to religion. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation involving key informants and local community members around the Bahal Temple area. The findings indicate that the local community can harmonize Islamic values with local wisdom in managing cultural tourism. Values such as tolerance (tasamuh), mutual respect, and social harmony are reflected in practices like somang do mulia (respect) and patik dohot pasu-pasu (deliberation), which function as social guidelines in maintaining interreligious harmony. This integration creates an inclusive and sustainable tourism model in which cultural preservation and community cohesion mutually reinforce one another. This study offers a new perspective on cultural tourism development by exploring the synergy between Islamic values and pre-Islamic heritage, demonstrating that religious consciousness can serve as a foundation for inclusive and sustainable tourism practices.
