Abstract

This study employed a qualitative research method and a descriptive approach to data collection. The mural decorations and the teachers in the school served as the study's subjects, while the study's objects included the subject matter of the mural decorations, the shape of the symbol, the color, and the composition of the mural art. The research and interviews were conducted in classrooms I through VI of SDN 1 Pekanbaru, which totaled 15 classes; of these, a sample of three classes was taken. Observational methods, in-depth interviews, and visual documentation all contributed to the collection of research data. Methods of qualitative and descriptive analysis were utilized in the study of the data. The findings revealed that the appreciation of mural art was due to the creativity of the teacher in terms of shape, color, line, illustration, and the theme that was raised. Specifically, the following was the theme that was raised: first, a teacher at SDN 1 Pekanbaru characterized a simple form of the elements of natural balance as a mural object. One of them is about the image of freshness and coolness given by nature, and the importance of preserving the surrounding natural environment, such as in the mural "Come on, Preserve Nature", which is on the wall decoration for class VI-B, and the mural art for class VB is entitled "Let's Respect and Appreciate Each other's Mural Art.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low levels of learning activities and higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) among students in science education. The study aims to determine the impact of the RADEC learning model (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create) on the learning activities and HOTS of fourth-grade elementary school students. The research design used is experimental research with a Quasi-Experimental design that employs a Non-equivalent Control Group Design. The study's population comprises fourth-grade elementary school students, with class IVA selected as the experimental group and class IVB as the control group at SDN 09 Simpang Tigo, using simple random sampling. The instruments used in this study include questionnaires and tests. Questionnaires assess student learning activities, while tests evaluate students' HOTS. The study results revealed: (1) The Sig value (2-tailed) 0.001 < 0.05. Consequently, H0 is rejected, and H1 is accepted, indicating that the RADEC learning model influences student learning activities in social studies in fourth-grade elementary schools. (2) The Sig value (2-tailed) 0.000 < 0.05. Therefore, H0 is rejected, and H1 is accepted, demonstrating that the RADEC learning model has an impact on students' HOTS in science education in fourth-grade elementary schools. In conclusion, the study findings suggest that the RADEC learning model significantly influences students' learning activities and high-order thinking skills in science education in fourth-grade elementary schools.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to create science teaching materials that use the RADEC model to increase HOTS for grade IV elementary school students. This type of research is development or R&D (Research and Development).  The research model applied is a 4-D model, which consists of the stages of definition, design, development, and deployment. The data collection techniques used are observation, interviews and questionnaires. This research was conducted in January 2024 in three elementary schools. The research subjects consisted of 46 elementary school students in grade IV as primary data. The research instrument used was a validation sheet, which was used to test the level of validity of teaching materials by 5 experts, consisting of 3 material experts, 1 linguist, and 1 media expert. The validation results by 5 experts showed a material feasibility score of 95%, language 93%, and media design 89% (all very valid). The practicality of teaching materials is considered very high by teachers (96%) and students (90%). The effectiveness test showed an N-Gain score of 76.1 (effective), with the average Pre-test of 48.7 increasing to 88.23 on the Post-test. In conclusion, this RADEC-based science teaching material is valid, practical, and effective in improving students' HOTS.

Abstract

This research aims to provide an influence on the use of Student Worksheets (LKPD) based on Project Based Learning (PBL) on improving 21st century skills in fifth grade elementary school students. The problem raised is the low development of critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication skills in students who use conventional learning methods. This research uses quantitative methods with a quasi-experimental design. The research sample consisted of 60 students who were divided into two groups: 30 students in the experimental group who used PBL-based LKPD and 30 students in the control group who used conventional LKPD. The instruments used include skills tests, observation sheets, and student perception questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the t test (t-test). The research results showed that the experimental group experienced a significant increase in critical thinking skills by 18.53%, creativity by 16.82%, collaboration by 19.31%, and communication by 14.21%. Meanwhile, the control group only experienced an increase of 9.11%, 7.62%, 8.43% and 6.71% respectively. In conclusion, PBL-based LKPD is significantly more effective in improving 21st century skills in elementary school students compared to conventional learning methods. These findings support the implementation of PBL as an effective learning strategy at the basic education level.

Abstract

Folklore is an important part of traditional historiography. Apart from the fact that much of the richness of folklore remains undiscovered, the values contained within it also need to be preserved and passed down from generation to generation. In Minangkabau, every nagari (village community) has its own folklore many of which relate to the origins of the nagari, moral values, cooperation, and other aspects of communal life. This article seeks to explore the historiographical aspects of the folklore found in Nagari Sasak, Ranah Pesisir District, Pasaman Barat Regency. This article seeks to reveal the historiographical aspects contained in the folklore of Nagari Sasak, Ranah Pesisir District, Pasaman Barat Regency. The purpose of this article is to explore the richness of Nagari Sasak’s folklore and to examine the traditional historiographical elements within it. The research data were obtained from various sources, including interviews and online materials. This approach is possible because folklore is often rewritten, critiqued, and analyzed conceptually. The findings show that there are two main folktales in Nagari Sasak: “The Origin of Nagari Sasak” and “The Oath of the Crocodile and the Water.” An interesting aspect of these folktales lies in their transcription process, which marks a progressive step as the socialization and dissemination of local folklore extend beyond the Minangkabau region. Translating these transcribed stories into an international language would make them accessible to a global audience. The two folktales contain complex messages and values, including identity, morality, mutual cooperation, solidarity, helpfulness, love for one’s homeland, responsibility, harmonious relations between humans and nature, environmental awareness, and religious values. However, some anachronisms remain within the narratives. Therefore, this issue deserves attention from amateur historians and professional organizations to improve the accuracy and preservation of such traditional historiographical works.
