Abstract

Islamic education in Indonesia, particularly in Islamic schools (madrasahs), faces significant challenges in improving the quality of learning and strengthening the character of students in the era of globalization. One innovation emerging to address this challenge is the Setoran Mutun Thalabil 'Ilmi (Information and Learning) program implemented at the Islamic Senior High School (Islamic Boarding School) PPMI Assalaam. This program combines traditional Islamic boarding school methods with digital technology to improve educational quality. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of the Setoran Mutun Thalabil 'Ilmi program among female students in the top class at the Islamic Senior High School (Islamic Boarding School) PPMI Assalaam in an effort to improve the quality of madrasah education. The method used in this study was a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation studies, and analyzed descriptively. The main findings of this study indicate that the Setoran Mutun Thalabil 'Ilmi program has a positive impact on educational quality, both in terms of process and outcomes. The learning process, which combines online and face-to-face methods, improves the discipline, motivation, and independence of female students, while the results are seen in improved Arabic language skills and a deeper understanding of Islam. Significant supporting factors include institutional support, madrasah policies, and the competence of the supervising teachers. The conclusion of this study is that the program successfully integrated Islamic boarding school traditions with modern technology, contributing to improving the quality of madrasah education. This study also suggests that other madrasahs can adopt a similar approach to improve the quality of learning in the digital age. Future research is recommended to examine the program's impact on academic achievement in greater depth quantitatively.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the implementation strategies of the Tilawati method in Quranic education in Trowangsan Village. The Tilawati method is a Quranic teaching method that utilizes intonation (rost) and combines classroom-based and individual instruction to improve the ability to recite the Quran with proper pronunciation (tartil). This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a field research design. The research subjects include teachers and students at TPQ Alfath. The research object is the Quran learning process using the Tilawati method. Data collection techniques include observation and interviews, while data analysis involves the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the method is carried out through three stages: the opening, the main activity, and the closing activity. The strategies employed include practical learning, the use of the rost tone, the classical method, and the individual method through the Simak approach. The use of these methods has proven effective in enhancing students’ engagement, motivation, and fluency in reading the Quran, particularly in understanding the length of recitation and the rules of tajwid. Additionally, the learning process supports the use of digital media as a tool for independent learning. Thus, the Tilawati method is considered effective and relevant for teaching Quranic recitation at the elementary education level, as it fosters an interactive and enjoyable learning process.

Abstract

The family, as the first educational environment for children, plays a crucial role in the formation of Islamic character. However, the high level of parental activity and work demands may reduce the intensity of their involvement in guiding and instilling Islamic values in their children. This study aims to provide an in-depth explanation of the role of parents in shaping children’s Islamic character in Kluwut Village, Bulakamba District, as well as to identify the challenges encountered in its implementation. This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design, using observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The findings reveal that parents hold a very significant role in shaping Islamic character, as reflected in their roles as educators, motivators, and role models. As educators, parents instill the values of tauhid, habituate religious practices, and foster moral conduct as well as social awareness. As motivators, they provide encouragement and appropriate appreciation to reinforce positive behavior. As role models, parents demonstrate Islamic values in their daily lives, serving as concrete examples for their children. The challenges faced include limited time due to work demands and the influence of digital technology. Nevertheless, parents continue to strive to perform their roles optimally by utilizing available time and implementing adaptive parenting strategies. These findings indicate that consistent and high-quality parental involvement is a key factor in the successful development of children’s Islamic character.

Abstract

This study examines the dimension of socio-political criticism in Tafsir Al-Azhar by Buya Hamka with a focus on the value of justice as the central theme. The Tafsir of Al-Azhar is not only a monumental work in the Islamic scientific treasures in the archipelago, but also a reflection of the thinking of a scholar who is responsive to the socio-political dynamics of his time. Hamka, as a mufasir as well as a social activist, integrates the textual understanding of the Qur'an with the historical context and empirical reality of society, resulting in contextual and applicative interpretations. This study uses a qualitative method with a hermeneutical-critical approach to analyze how Hamka constructs the concept of socio-political justice through his interpretation of the verses of the Qur'an. The findings of the study show that Hamka's socio-political criticism in Tafsir Al-Azhar includes three main dimensions: first, criticism of the arbitrariness of rulers and abuse of power; second, advocacy for the rights of the oppressed and marginalized groups; and third, emphasis on the principles of deliberation and political participation as a mechanism for the realization of justice. Hamka emphasized that justice is a fundamental value in Islam that must be implemented concretely in the political system and social structure. The concept of justice in Tafsir Al-Azhar is not limited to the individual-spiritual dimension, but extends to the collective-structural level that includes economic distribution, legal equality, and political participation. This research makes a theoretical contribution to the study of Indonesian contextual interpretation and a practical contribution to the development of Islamic political ethics based on the Qur'an.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of the study of the Ta’limul Muta’allim book in shaping the morals of students at MAN 1 Surakarta. Islamic education does not only focus on the mastery of knowledge but also emphasizes the development of character and moral values among students. The book Ta’limul Muta’allim, written by Imam Az-Zarnuji, is one of the classical Islamic texts widely studied in pesantren as a guide to the ethics of seeking knowledge. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive analytical approach. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving dormitory leaders, teachers of the Ta’limul Muta’allim book, supervisors, and students living in the dormitory of MAN 1 Surakarta. The results of the study show that the study of the Ta’limul Muta’allim book plays a strategic role in shaping students’ moral character by instilling ethical values in the pursuit of knowledge, such as sincere intention, humility (tawadhu’), moral caution (wira’i), and respect for teachers, knowledge, and fellow students. The learning process is implemented through the bandungan method, which allows students to understand the classical text while internalizing the moral values contained in it. The implementation of these values is strengthened through teachers’ exemplary behavior, daily habituation in dormitory life, and a behavioral evaluation system for students. Although several challenges exist, such as limited Arabic language comprehension among new students and the psychological dynamics of adolescence, the study of the Ta’limul Muta’allim book is generally considered effective in supporting the moral development of students in a pesantren-based madrasah environment.

Abstract

This study examines Islamic Religious Education teachers’ strategies in shaping students’ religious character at SMPIT Insan Kamil Karanganyar. Strengthening religious character has become an important aspect of education in Islamic schools amid contemporary moral challenges faced by students. This study employed a descriptive qualitative field research design using observation, interviews, and literature review. The findings reveal that teachers implemented several strategies, including exemplary conduct, discipline, habituation, and special programs such as Bina Pribadi Islami (BPI) and Malam Bina Iman dan Taqwa (MABIT). Exemplary conduct emerged as the primary strategy because teachers function as role models for students. Supporting factors included collaboration among school members, a religious school culture, and effective teacher–student communication, while family-school inconsistency and limited instructional time became major obstacles. The study implies that successful religious character formation requires teacher strategies, supportive school culture, and active family involvement.
