Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic non-infectious disease with complications such as diabetic foot, which has the potential for amputation if left untreated. Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) is a behavior-based theory that can be applied to DM patients including foot care to minimize risk. Some studies related to TPB particularly about physical activity and diet have been explored, however, studies on foot care are still lacking. Objective: This study aims to apply the Theory of Planned Behavior (Intentions, Attitudes, Subjective Norms and Behavioral Control) on the patient's foot care. Methods: This was a cross sectional descriptive study. There were 93 patients diagnosed with type 2 DM recruited at 9 public health centers (Puskesmas) using accidental sampling on April 2018. TPB-based foot care questionnaire from the IWGDF (International Working Group on Diabetic Foot) Diabetic Foot guidelines was used. Data were analyzed in the form of frequency distribution. Results: Of the total number of respondents, 25 males and 68 females with average age of 53.05 ± 8.04 years, approximately 87.1% of them have the intention to wear footwear according to size. The majority of patients think that washing feet every day is a form of good and positive practice. They also agreed that the family expects the patient to examine the presence of bone / joint protrusions independently and believes that monitoring the foot deformities performed by other DM patients is very important as well as having control that the patient can check for signs of boils in the legs and there is a high likelihood of blisters / sores if the socks used are not suitable. Conclusion: The majority of respondents have good intentions, positive attitudes, social support and behavioral controls for foot care.

Abstract

This literature review aims to summarize the results of research regarding the implementation of delegation of clinical authority to nurses in hospitals. Literature search using five databases PubMed, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar and Wiley in the period 2013-2023. Nine studies were included in the review, where the effectiveness of the implementation of delegation of nursing authority could be hampered by three factors: 1) practice standards and policies (clarity of delegation standards, clarity of nurses' duties, transparent supervision); 2) delegation (delegator's fear of responsibility, burdensome delegation tasks, accountability, recognition of the delegate's efforts, education and learning opportunities, expertise, lack of positive incentives, communication and openness of information, trust); 3) situational obstacles (lack of resources, workload and fatigue, important tasks that are difficult to delegate). In conclusion, there are three factors inhibiting the effectiveness of delegation, namely: practice standards and policies, delegation, and situational obstacles. Abstract

Objective: The purpose of this study is to apply Evidence-Based Nursing Practice (EBNP) activities based on the concepts and models of nursing theory. Method: EBP implementation design used is true experimental with research design Guide imagery. The sampling technique in the implementation of EBP is accidental sampling with nonprobability sampling approach. The population in this study were patients who were at Wright Patterson Medical Center in Ohio with planned surgery on the head and neck area of 44 people divided into 2 groups. Results: giving guide imagery before surgery can reduce the pain as measured by using VAS. The results showed that the pain level was measured after 1 hour postoperatively and 2 hours postoperatively. At the initial measurement, there was no significant difference between the control group and the intervention group with a p value of 0.057. After 2 hours postoperatively, there was a significant difference in pain level between the control group and the intervention group with a p value of 0.041. Conclusion: The implementation of evidence based practice using guide imagery as a therapy before the patient is operated is proven to reduce the level of pain and anxiety of the patient.

Abstract

Stunting is still an unresolved global health problem caused by inadequate nutritional intake, significantly affecting a person’s future development. Rebon-shrimp is high protein and inexpensive local food, but still underutilized. This quasi-experimental study aimed to determine the effect of supplementary feeding from Rebon-shrimp on serum albumin levels in stunting children aged 24-60 months. The intervention group (n=44) received rebon shrimp-based supplementary food for 90 days, while the control group (n=44) received a placebo. Measurement of serum albumin was carried out by the ELISA method using blood samples. The results showed a statistical difference (p<0.001) in serum albumin levels in the intervention group, while the control group did not differ statistically (p=0.363). The intervention group experienced an increase in albumin levels of 15.55 g/L, while the control group tended to experience a decrease in serum albumin levels of -1.92 g/L. There was no significant difference in serum albumin levels before the intervention in the two groups (p=0.180). Still, after the administration of rebon products, there was a significant difference in serum albumin levels between the two groups (p<0.001). Supplementary food made from rebon shrimp was beneficial for increasing the serum albumin level of stunting children.

Abstract

Raising awareness about disease prevention behavior in adolescents is an effective measure for reducing the transmission of COVID-19. This study aimed to examine adolescent disease-prevention behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia and identify its associations with gender, region, and background-related factors. This was a cross-sectional study that involved 492 respondents between the ages of 12 to 18 years and currently attending junior high school or senior high school. The Mann–Whitney U test and Kruskal–Wallis H test was used. The findings indicated that the mean age of the respondents was 15.77 (SD = 1.42), the majority of the respondents were girls (76.4%), and most were living in Eastern Indonesia (81.5%). Girls placed a significantly higher effort for prevention than boys for self-precaution, social distancing, and following coughing and sneezing etiquette, with mean (SD) values of 21.48 (SD = 2.79), 20.40 (SD = 2.89), and 17.73 (SD = 2.44), respectively. Gender and region also had significant correlations with reported self-protection, social distancing, and self-immunity enhancement behavior (p< 0.05). It can be concluded that COVID-19-prevention measures practiced by adolescents differ according to gender, region, education level, both parents’ education level, and the father’s occupation.

Abstract
