Abstract

The article deals with improving students’ vocabulary through English song at SMK Einstein school . The research aims to improve the twelfth-grade students of SMK Einstein School in mastering vocabulary through English song. The research was conducted by Classroom Action Research (CAR). Techniques used to collect the data are planning, implementing, observing and reflecting. The researcher selected 30 students of class XII-SMK Einstein School academic year of 2020/2021. The instrument used in the research was the song lyrics.Songs can be trusted to help remember vocabulary and used the songs are interested in learning English. Memorizing song can be used to improve English vocabulary so that the purpose of learning English as a communication tool can be achieved optimally. It can be seen from the result of the research showed that there was improvement from Cycle I to Cycle II in the students’ participation in introduction, discussion and practice. In the students’ achievement Cycle I was 67,43, the average score of the Cycle II was 85. It can be concluded that songs have a significant impact on improving students’ vocabulary.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to investigate the students’ speaking skill through British Parliamentary (BP) debate System. This observation was taken 18 Days which started from Thursday, 13th February to 12 March 2020. The Qualitative Research Method was used in this research. The subjects of this research chosen randomly were 8 student as the representative of students in the fourth semester of English education UMN Al Washliyah Medan Class A, academic year 2019-2020. The population from this research were the whole students in the 4th semester English Education Department Class A.Technique of collecting data used was the observation in which the students were observed during debate class by using observation sheet designed with theory of Finocchiaro in Armasita (2017) to know the ability that have been achieved by the students and all the data found from 8 subjects of research that have been analyzed by the researcher there were 4 indicators/elements, namely pronunciation, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. After the research conducted, it was found that there were 3 students with the higher speaking skill, 4 students with the moderate speaking skill, and only one student categories as the unsatisfied speaking skill. Shortly, this finding of the research was appropriate with the assumption in this research that is debate is effective to increase the students’ speaking skill.

Abstract

This research was aimed to figure out the strategies used by English teachers in teaching reading and how they applied the strategies. It was designed as descriptive qualitative research. Participants of the research were two English teachers who taugh the 2 grade the students. Each English teacher had eight meetings observed by the researcher. The research instruments aere strategies checklist and interview. They were used to figure out the strategies used and how the English teachers applied the strategies in teaching reading comprehension. The result of the data were analyzed and broken down into three stages or Data Reduction, Data Display, and Drawing Conclusion or Interpretation. The previous studies showed that the teachers’ strategies were very effective in teaching reading comprehension. On the other hand, the use of too many strategies would affect students’ performances in learning reading comprehension. This reason was contradicted with the conducted the researcher in Junior High School Number 9 Bengkulu. This research showed that the teachers in applying strategies only use two or three strategies. Combination of some strategies was more appropriate comparemany strategies used by the teachers. The students would be more focused if the teacher used fewer strategies but well applied in teaching reading comprehension.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan strategi dengan menggunakan strategi reciprocal questioning (request) sebagai strategi dalam pembelajaran pemahaman membaca siswa kelas VIII SMPN 3 Halongonan Timur. Penelitian ini menggunakan Model Pengembangan. Hal ini dilakukan untuk mengembangkan Reciprocal Questioning Strategy sebagai strategi dalam mengajar pemahaman bacaan. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, diperlukan pendekatan penelitian yang mengkaji upaya untuk menghasilkan strategi pengajaran membaca. Oleh karena itu dalam merancang model peneliti menggunakan pendekatan Research and Development dengan mengadaptasi Model Borg and Gall. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa SMPN 3 Halongonan Timur. kelas VIII tahun ajaran 2021/2022. Subyek ini ditentukan dengan menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling. Peneliti menggunakan dua teknik pengumpulan data, yaitu data deskriptif kualitatif dan data kuantitatif. Data kualitatif dan hasil kuantitatif diperoleh dari ahli validasi angket, review ahli materi dan ahli strategi pengajaran. Data dari uji coba lapangan diperoleh dari komentar atau tanggapan, hasil angket dan hasil tes. Instrumen pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara wawancara administrasi dan penyebaran angket kepada 26 responden untuk mengetahui kebutuhan siswa. Maksud dari angket yang berkaitan dengan kesesuaian materi adalah . nilai rata-rata termasuk dalam kategori “Sangat Baik” karena berada pada interval 3,25 < x < 4. Hasil tersebut menunjukkan bahwa bahan bacaan tersebut sesuai untuk siswa kelas VIII SMP. Peneliti menggunakan tes untuk mengetahui strategi pemahaman membaca siswa berdasarkan strategi reciprocal questioning (permintaan) sebagai strategi dan tes dilakukan dua kali; pre-test dan post-test. Kemudian, t-test digunakan untuk menganalisis data. Hasil dari data di atas adalah nilai t-test lebih tinggi dari t tabel (13,6 > 1,711) pada taraf signifikansi 0,05 untuk two tailed dan derajat kebebasan (df) = 26-2 = 24. Artinya Strategi Reciprocal Questioning secara signifikan mempengaruhi prestasi pemahaman membaca siswa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan materi keterampilan berbicara berbasis podcast sebagai media pembelajaran bagi siswa kelas VIII SMPN 2 Padang Bolak. Penelitian ini menggunakan Model Pengembangan. Hal ini dilakukan untuk mengembangkan podcast sebagai media pengajaran. Untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut, diperlukan pendekatan penelitian yang mengkaji upaya untuk menghasilkan strategi pengajaran membaca. Oleh karena itu, dalam merancang model, peneliti menggunakan pendekatan Research and Development dengan mengadaptasi Model Borg and Gall. Kemudian, t-test digunakan untuk menganalisis data. Hasil dari data di atas adalah nilai t-test lebih tinggi dari t tabel (8,7 > 1,734) pada taraf signifikansi 0,05 for one tailed dan derajat kebebasan (df) = 20-2 = 18. Artinya materi pembelajaran berbicara berdasarkan Podcast berpengaruh signifikan terhadap keterampilan berbicara siswa.

Abstract

Games have the potential to be one of the most useful methods of teaching speaking skills, but early observations made about the use of games in class indicate that the game being applied is not suitable for the class. One of the problems observed is that the games used require a lot of time to prepare and only allow a small number of students to talk. This study aims to improve the process of using games to t each speaking by conducting participatory classroom action research in one of the schools in SMP  DHARMA KARYA BERINGIN. The research process follows the steps: Planning, Implementation, Observation, and Reflection. There are two sets of instruments to be used in this study, a list of observations researcher and teacher questionnaires. T he st udents are gi ven a pre-test and post -test to de ter mine the increase in the skills of the students. The results showed that the game ‘Question Game” fits the needs of the class and meets the criteria of ethical speaking game theories after being given several modifications. T-test results on student scores indicate that the improvement made is significant in each cycle. Every aspect of students’ speaking skills also makes a significant improvement with t ob t crit.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to find out whether there is significant effect of using media audio visual on students’ competency in listening skill. This research was conducted in MAS AL-MANAR Medan students of tenth grade. This research used quantitative research with experimental design with two classes. Control class consisted of 20 students and experimental class consisted 21 students. This research used media audio visual as learning method. The technique of collecting data of this research were pre-test, treatment, and post-test. With each test comes 10 questions of multiple choice. The results obtained in this research proved that there was a different score on students’ in learning listening by using media audio visual and used media audio. Students’ achieved good grades but in the control class it was lower than the experimental class. It could be show as follows that the t-test value was 14.735 with df= n-2 = 39, tobserved >ttable, tobserved was higher than ttable with 2.0227. It can be concluded that Media Audio Visual can be affected on students’ listening skill.

Abstract

This research deals with students' understanding of moral values ​​in English narrative texts. This research was conducted by students’ of SMP IT Nurul Ikhwan Pantai Cermin. This research focused on "what moral values ​​are understood by students after reading the narrative text and analyzing the moral values ​​contained in the narrative text. This research aimed to analyzed what moral values understood by students that were consisted of patience, kindness, helpful and humbleness. The method used in this research is qualitative method. The subjects of the research were 9 students and they divided into 3 groups: students with higher reading comprehension, students with moderate reading comprehension and students with lower reading comprehension. Technique of collecting the data was done by providing narrative texts that have moral values ​​to students, researchers provided questions related to moral values ​​and then researchers determine students' understanding of moral values. From the results of data collection it was concluded that there are still many students who did not understand the moral values ​​in narrative texts due to lacked of English vocabulary and lacked of understanding of information contained in English texts

Abstract

Penggunaan Bahasa Indonesia yang memiliki interaksi ketika kbm Bahasa Indonesia ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan motivasi belajar peserta didik secara menyuruh dalam kegiatan KBM berlangsung. Hal ini disebabkan karena dapat memudahkan proses komunikasi yang baik antara guru dengan siswa yang memiliki ujaran yang mengacu kepada interaksi dalam bidang komunikasi, baik itu secara perintah, pertanyaan,pernyataan, nasihat maupun yang lain. Kegiatan ini dilakukan guru biasanya ketika membuka pelajaran (opening act) dan menutup pelajaran (closing act), tetapi juga harus mampu dalam menggunakan komunikasi yang berisi candaan, gurauan maupun memuat kritikan-kritikan yang halus seperti “kurang tepat” ketika menyanggah ucapan murid yang tidak tepat. Penelitian ini memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui sebagaimana jenis tindak tuturan yang sering digunakan guru maupun siswa ketika melakukan komunikasi di SMAS YAPIM MEDAN ketika KBM Bahasa Indonesia berlangsung. Metode yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode mix methode, yang dimana metode ini melakukan tindakan kelas selama KBM berlangsung dan menggabungkan antara metode analisis kualitiatif dengan kuantitatif, sehingga menghasilkan instrument penelitian yang melibatkan antara komunikasi guru dan siswa yang dapat ditarik kesimpulannya menggunakan hasil perhitungan dari komunikasi tersebut. Dari hasil penelitian ini ditemukan data yang dapat ditinjau keberhasilannya dalam berkomunikasi, yaitu tindak tutur yang berbasis tanpa ada bas abasi, dan tindak tuturan yang memiliki fungsi dalam komunikasi. Dari hasil analisis data yang dilakukan, dttemukan memiliki strategi dalam bertindak tuturan ditemukan 25 tuturan secara lokusi, 30 tuturan secara ilokusi dan 20 tuturan secara perlokusi.

Abstract

This research raises the issue of whether there is an influence of the initial knowledge test on the reading comprehension and sentence structure skills of class VIII students at MTs Negeri 2 Deli Serdang in the 2023/2024 academic year? The aim of this research is to determine the effect of the initial knowledge test on the reading comprehension and sentence structure skills of class VIII students at MTs Negeri 2 Deli Serdang. The method used in this research is an experimental method with a simple 2 x 2 factorial design. The population in this research is the entire class VIII of MTs Negeri 2 Deli Serdang, totaling 352 people spread across 11 classes with a research sample of 80 students taken at random. The instrument used is an objective test consisting of 20 multiple choice questions, with a scoring technique that if 1 is correct, a score of 5 is given. So the highest score is 100 and the lowest is 5. The results of the research show that there is an influence of the initial knowledge test on reading comprehension skills and making sentence structures. Class VIII students at MTs Negeri 2 Deli Serdang, with the results of ANOVA calculations obtained Fcount = 6.32 and Ftable = 4.00 at a significance level of 0.05. This shows that Fcount > Ftable. Thus, the hypothesis is accepted. In this way, there is an influence of the initial knowledge test on the reading comprehension and sentence structure skills of class VIII students at MTs Negeri 2 Deli Serdang.
