Abstract

Low Back Pain (LBP) is a musculoskeletal disorder characterized by pain in the lower back. Office workers engaged in prolonged static sitting are at risk of developing LBP, particularly when adopting non-ergonomic positions. A preliminary study on two staff members of the Library Technical Implementation at Diponegoro University (UNDIP) indicated they were at risk of experiencing low back pain. Prolonged sitting with minimal movement causes muscle tension, reduced joint flexibility, and impaired blood circulation in the lower back, triggering LBP onset. This study analyzed the effect of workplace stretching on reducing low back pain complaints among UPT Library staff at UNDIP. Using a quantitative approach with pre-experimental design and total sampling method, all 30 UPT Library staff members participated. Data were collected using the Modified Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire. The Wilcoxon test results showed that workplace stretching interventions significantly reduced low back pain complaints, with p = 0.001. The majority of library staff experienced LBP, with 22 individuals (73.3%) reporting symptoms. Most older respondents suffered from LBP, accounting for 19 individuals (95.0%). Two variables were significantly associated with LBP: age (p = 0.001) and years of service (p = 0.007). Meanwhile, Body Mass Index (BMI) (p = 0.657) and working duration (p = 0.222) showed no significant relationship. The findings demonstrate that workplace stretching is an effective intervention for reducing low back pain among office workers performing prolonged sedentary tasks.

Abstract

Introduction: Occupational health and safety (OHS) among informal sector workers is a growing global concern, as this workforce, representing approximately 60% of the world’s total employment, often operates outside formal regulatory and social protection systems. Informal workers face elevated risks of occupational injuries, hazardous exposures, and poor access to healthcare. This study analyzes global research trends on OHS in informal sector workers from 2010 to 2025 through a bibliometric approach. Methods: A bibliometric study was conducted using the PubMed database to identify relevant articles published between 2010 and 2025. The search yielded 235 eligible articles, which were analyzed using VOSviewer for keyword co-occurrence, thematic clustering, and collaboration network mapping. The PICO framework guided the analysis, focusing on research trends, hotspots, and collaborative patterns related to OHS in the informal sector. Results: The number of publications increased markedly after 2018, reaching a peak of 32 papers in 2021. Most studies originated from Asia (43%), followed by Africa (28%) and Latin America (17%). Keyword analysis revealed four dominant clusters: “occupational exposure” (47 occurrences), “workplace safety” (39), “precarious employment” (29), and “vulnerable workers” (22). International collaboration accounted for approximately 35% of total publications, showing a gradual upward trend in recent years. Conclusion: Global research on OHS in informal workers has grown substantially but remains quantitatively limited relative to the size of the informal workforce. Most studies emphasize hazard identification rather than preventive interventions. Greater cross-country collaboration and policy-oriented research are essential to strengthen OHS protection for informal sector workers worldwide.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Through accident analysis, we can design effective measures to prevent accidents. Therefore, this study aims to analyze occupational accidents in coal mining workers. This study adopted a literature study approach, in which the data search process was carried out systematically referring to the PRISMA guidelines. Information retrieval encompasses not only the use of keywords but also Boolean operators in order to enhance the results of the search: “coal” AND “mining” AND “workers” AND “workplace accident”, Inclusion criteria of the articles were those published between the years 2019 to 2024. This study identified that the risk of accidents in coal mining is mainly caused by physical hazards such as roof collapse, fire, and gas explosion, as well as exposure to hazardous chemicals. In addition, human factors such as lack of safety awareness and weaknesses in management systems also contribute significantly to the high accident rate. The results show that the risk of accidents in coal mining is caused by physical hazards such as roof collapse, fire, gas explosion and chemical hazards such as toxic gases as well as human factors. These findings therefore underline the need for comprehensive measures that would improve occupational safety in coal mines. This will include improved safety management systems, more awareness of the workers themselves, and better regulation of physical hazards. These measures consequently offer protection not only to the employees but also present tokens of the organization towards being socially and ecologically responsible. Keywords: Coal, Mining, Workers, Workplace Accidents.

Abstract

Background: Nurses are frontline healthcare professionals in hospital settings, operating within complex clinical environments, high job demands, and rapidly evolving healthcare systems. These conditions contribute to role ambiguity, a multidimensional phenomenon characterized by unclear responsibilities, expectations, and professional boundaries, which may affect nurses’ performance, psychological well-being, and care quality. Aim: This scoping review aimed to clarify the concept of role ambiguity, synthesize current evidence regarding its occurrence among hospital nurses, and identify multilevel factors influencing its development. Methods: A scoping review methodology was employed. Literature searches were conducted in Google Scholar, ProQuest, ScienceDirect, and Wiley using the keywords “nurse” OR “nurses” AND “role ambiguity” AND “hospital”. Based on predefined inclusion criteria, ten original research articles published between 2020 and 2026 were selected and analyzed. Results: Role ambiguity is influenced by individual, organizational, and systemic factors. Emotional intelligence plays a critical role in regulating responses to ambiguous situations, while social support from supervisors and colleagues, along with organizational clarity regarding responsibilities and professional boundaries, reduces role ambiguity. Additionally, digitalization, adaptation to evolving work systems, and structured education and simulation programs contribute to improving role clarity. Conclusion: Role ambiguity among hospital nurses is a complex, multidimensional issue requiring multilevel organizational and professional strategies. Future longitudinal and methodologically rigorous research is needed to support sustainable workforce and healthcare system improvement.
