Abstract

IntroductionIslamic religious counselors have traditionally focused on spiritual guidance, yet evolving socio-economic demands have expanded their role into community economic empowerment. Mosques and religious institutions now serve as hubs for entrepreneurship development, sharia-based financial literacy, halal certification assistance, and digital outreach. However, empirical studies examining how this role transformation unfolds at the local level, particularly in Indonesia, remain limited.ObjectivesThis study analyzes the transformation of Islamic religious counselors in Pesawaran Regency into agents of community economic empowerment. It identifies the strategies they employ, the enabling and constraining factors that shape their work, and the wider implications for community welfare, institutional development, and faith-based economic initiatives.MethodUsing a qualitative descriptive design, the study collected data through in-depth interviews, participant observations, and document analysis. Informants included counselors, local religious leaders, microenterprise actors, and community members selected purposively to ensure relevance and depth. Data were analyzed using thematic techniques to capture patterns of practice, challenges, and perceived outcomes.ResultsFindings indicate that counselors have integrated da‘wah with economic facilitation through mosque-based mentoring, financial literacy education, halal certification support, and digital tools. These efforts strengthened business skills, increased market access, and enhanced economic confidence among microenterprises. Structural constraints—such as limited counselor capacity, weak interagency coordination, and insufficient evaluation mechanisms—restricted program scalability, yet community trust and cross-sector partnerships enhanced effectiveness.ImplicationsThe study highlights the potential of counselor-led, mosque-centered empowerment as a culturally grounded model for community development. Strengthening governance, digital capacity, and evaluation systems is essential for sustaining impact and expanding inclusion.Originality/NoveltyThis research provides one of the most detailed qualitative accounts of counselor-led economic empowerment in an Indonesian locality, offering conceptual, practical, and policy insights into the alignment of da‘wah, Islamic economic principles, and community development.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of oil and gas and non-oil and gas exports, foreign investment, and foreign debt on Indonesia's foreign exchange reserves from 1991 to 2024. This study uses a quantitative method with secondary data in the form of time series data and uses the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) to identify the relationship between variables in the short and long term. The results show that, simultaneously, exports, foreign investment and foreign debt have a significant effect. Meanwhile, individually in the long term, oil and gas exports and non-oil and gas exports have a significant negative effect on foreign exchange reserves, while foreign investment has a significant positive effect and foreign debt has a significant negative effect on foreign exchange reserves. However, in the short term, the effects of oil and gas exports, foreign investment and foreign debt are not significant on Indonesia's foreign exchange reserves. This study integrates an Islamic economic perspective, emphasising the importance of the principles of justice, sustainability and the prohibition of usury in the management of macroeconomic variables related to foreign exchange reserves. These findings provide policy insights for sustainable foreign exchange reserve management, such as regulating foreign investment in accordance with sharia principles and carefully managing foreign debt to align with sharia values.

Abstract

To maintain existence and competitiveness, various products are needed that can reach all levels of business needs. Working Capital Financing is intended for SME Retail to commercial scale, Micro Financing is intended for medium-sized MSMEs, while Qardhul Hasan financing is intended if lending lacks capital in the current contract. For this reason, this article wants to test how much influence Working Capital Financing and Micro Financing and with Qardhul Hasan Funds as moderating variables have on the Profitability of Islamic Banks in Indonesia. This study involved 14 Islamic Commercial Banks from 2019-2023 registered with the Financial Services Authority. The data was obtained from the OSIRIS website. The data analysis method used was multiple regression analysis. The hypothesis tests carried out were the F test, T test, and Adjusted R 2 determination coefficient. The results of the study simultaneously showed that independent variables had a significant effect on Islamic Bank Performance with a significance of 67%, this was because DQH was allocated to the productive sector and was included in the priority scale of superior customers. While partially PMK has a negative effect because it uses a profit sharing contract that is quite risky, and the PM and DQH variables have a positive effect on the performance of Islamic Banks, this is because PM uses a sale and purchase contract so that the risk is minimal and DQH uses the Qardhul hasan contract which is allocated to the productive sector so that the risk is minimal. The finding of this lending can be evaluated or converted with various products according to customer needs so that the performance of Islamic Banks can continue to increase as long as it does not deviate from Banking Quality Sharia which is its main mission.

Abstract

Background: Economic development in farming communities is linked to social capital embedded in interactions, norms, and collective practices. In palm oil farming settings, social capital is often assumed to be uniformly beneficial, yet empirical patterns can differ across dimensions. Aims: This study examines the associations between social capital dimensions and economic development in palm oil farming communities using a quantitative model. Method: A cross sectional quantitative design was used with primary data from structured questionnaires administered to smallholder palm oil farmers in Central Lampung Regency, Indonesia. Social capital was operationalized into social networks, reciprocity, trust, social norms, and social values. Ordinary least squares multiple regression was applied. Results: The regression results show heterogeneous associations. Social norms have a positive and statistically significant association with economic development indicators. Trust has a statistically significant negative association. Social networks, reciprocity, and social values are positive but statistically insignificant. The negative association of trust may reflect unequal power relations, elite control in marketing arrangements, or internal stratification and distrust within farmer groups, conditions that can raise transaction frictions rather than strengthen collective outcomes. Conclusion: Social capital is not uniformly beneficial. Its association with economic development depends on specific dimensions and local institutional context, supporting the use of quantitative modeling to capture these differences.

Abstract

Global environmental pressures that disrupt social and economic stability demand a financial system grounded in sustainability. Islamic banking holds a strategic position in implementing sustainable financing, as the principles of justice (al-‘adl), public interest (al-maslahah), and environmental preservation (hifz al-bi’ah) align with sustainability objectives. This study employs a descriptive approach through literature review using secondary data derived from journals, reports, and financial policies. The findings indicate that green financing practices through murabahah, musharakah, ijarah, and green sukuk contracts have encouraged environmentally friendly financing, although challenges remain due to low literacy, regulatory uncertainty, and limited innovation in green financial products. Nevertheless, Islamic finance holds significant potential to strengthen the national green finance ecosystem by channeling funds ethically, equitably, and in an environmentally responsible manner.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the role of business unit strategies in product and service innovation in Islamic banking. This study uses library research methods by examining various sources such as scientific journals, books, and official reports related to business strategy and innovation in the context of the Islamic economy. The results show that Islamic business unit strategies serve as a roadmap for achieving competitive advantage, as well as a foundation for ensuring that every innovation process remains based on Islamic principles. An effective strategy must be able to integrate Islamic value orientation, business environment analysis, internal resource management, and digital transformation. Product and service innovations, such as Islamic fintech, blockchain, and Islamic crowdfunding, are concrete evidence of the application of these strategies in responding to technological changes and the needs of modern customers. The relationship between business unit strategy and innovation is reciprocal: strategy provides direction for innovation, while innovation becomes a means of actualizing strategy in Islamic banking practice. Thus, strengthening business unit strategies based on digitalization and Islamic values is key to the sustainability and competitiveness of Islamic banking in the modern era.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze zakat management optimization, focusing on professional zakat in zakat financial institutions, to improve economic welfare in Indonesia. Methods: A qualitative descriptive research approach was used, combining field research and literature review. Interviews were conducted with key stakeholders in zakat management, and secondary data from zakat institutions were analyzed. Results: The study found that optimizing professional zakat involves aspects such as the potential of zakat payers (muzakki), institutional professionalism, zakat publication efforts, commitment from zakat payers, and effective distribution methods. However, challenges remain, including insufficient stakeholder support and low awareness of professional zakat among muzakki. Conclusions: The study concludes that effective zakat management, especially professional zakat management, can significantly improve economic welfare. This requires the efficient collection, distribution, and utilization of zakat funds by professional institutions such as BAZNAS, supported by better stakeholder engagement and public education. Limitations: This research is limited to zakat financial institutions (BAZNAS) and does not explore other types of zakat or zakat institutions. Additionally, data on zakat management practices from different regions were not gathered comprehensively. Contributions: This research provides valuable insights into the role of professional zakat in improving economic welfare and offers recommendations for better zakat management in Indonesia. This study contributes to the understanding of how zakat can be optimized for societal benefit, particularly in Indonesia.
