Abstract

Low literacy and critical thinking skills remain a serious challenge to improving the quality of education in Indonesia. In the context of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), this challenge is further complicated by the need to integrate Islamic values, the scholarly traditions of Islamic boarding schools, and the demands of 21st-century competencies. Therefore, transforming learning models that integrate critical digital literacy is an urgent need to improve the quality of learning. This study aims to analyze the transformation of critical digital literacy-based learning models in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). The study employed a qualitative approach with a multi-site case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results show the development of critical digital literacy characteristics in students, including the use of digital devices, information management, digital content transformation, and socio-cultural understanding. Furthermore, the evolving learning model is adaptive, with technology integration, information exploration, collaboration, project-based learning, and a shift in the role of lecturers to facilitators. These findings confirm that critical digital literacy is not only technical but also reflective and contextual, integrated with Islamic boarding school values.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the approaches in community building, positive habits in educational institutions, and support services and stakeholders in two educational institutions with a comparative concept in dealing with teacher burnout. The focus of this study is to explore how both institutions implement positive habits and stakeholder engagement in an effort to improve the quality of education. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method, which includes observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews with key stakeholders in both institutions. The findings indicate that community and positive habits are built through a profoundly spiritual approach, while in the second institution, the main focus is on collaboration between stakeholders and the development of positive habits in the context of modern education. Both institutions show that adequate stakeholder support, such as teacher training and parent involvement, plays an important role in creating a supportive educational environment. The contribution of this study is to provide new insights into understanding the influence of community, positive habits, and the role of stakeholders in improving the quality of education and to suggest an integration between spiritual and modern approaches to achieve more holistic educational success.

Abstract

Poor nutritional conditions in elementary school students can hinder the learning process and have an impact on decreasing concentration and academic achievement. This study was motivated by this phenomenon, especially at SDN 1 Karanggeger, where many students come to school without adequate nutritional intake. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of the free lunch program in improving students' concentration and academic achievement. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study method, involving observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. The results showed that the free lunch program contributed positively to increasing student attendance, focus on learning in class, involvement in discussions, and the ability to complete academic tasks. Students' average academic grades also increased significantly after the program was implemented. The program also created a more conducive learning environment and increased students' motivation and social interaction. The implications of this study are very relevant to education policy, especially in areas with economic constraints, because they show that nutrition-based interventions can be an effective strategy in improving the quality of education. It is recommended that similar programs be implemented more widely and accompanied by monitoring and nutrition education for students and parents to ensure the sustainability of their benefits.

Abstract

Learning Furudhul Ainiyah in Islamic boarding schools often experiences obstacles in terms of students' understanding due to the dominance of theoretical teaching methods. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the learning-by-doing approach as a solution to improve understanding of Furudhul Ainiyah material at the Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School, specifically in the Al-Hasyimiyah area of Al-Masruriyah. The method used is a qualitative approach with a case study type through data collection techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the direct practice approach is able to increase the active involvement of students in the learning process, strengthen their understanding of basic fiqh materials, and foster a religious attitude through continuous internalization of values. Data visualization from interviews, observations, and documentation shows that changes in methods have an impact on more active, systematic, and measurable learning behavior patterns. Practice-based learning has been shown to bridge the gap between religious knowledge and practice in Islamic boarding schools. These findings suggest that learning by doing can be an alternative, more contextual, participatory, and transformative learning strategy.

Abstract

The development of student discipline in Islamic boarding schools requires character education strategies that not only enforce formal rules but also involve the structured and contextual internalization of Islamic values amid social challenges and changing times. This study aims to describe the process of internalizing Islamic values in shaping student discipline at MAN 1 Probolinggo, which is located in the Nurul Jadid Islamic Boarding School environment. This study uses a qualitative approach with a field study type, with data collection techniques through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results of the study show that the internalization of Islamic values in shaping student discipline is carried out through three main strategies, namely the role model of educators as moral figures, the integration of discipline values in Islamic Religious Education, and daily habits based on pesantren culture. The third strategy works synergistically and sustainably to shape students' discipline as religious awareness, not merely obedience to rules. The pesantren environment acts as a key supporting factor that reinforces the consistency of students' disciplined behavior in their daily lives. This study has implications for character development in Islamic boarding school-based madrasahs, particularly in building holistic student discipline.

Abstract

Increasingly complex environmental problems, such as students’ low awareness and concern for the cleanliness and sustainability of the school environment, indicate that environmentally based character education has not been optimally internalized in educational practice, as reflected in behaviors such as littering, poor classroom maintenance, and limited participation in environmental activities. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Adiwiyata Program at SMA Negeri 1 Gending as an effort to build environmental awareness among students. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews with the principal, vice principal, teachers, and students; direct observation of student behavior across various areas of the school; and documentation in the form of activity reports, school policies, and program archives, and were analyzed descriptively. The results indicate that the Adiwiyata Program has been comprehensively implemented in learning, student activities, and school management, with the integration of environmental values into lesson materials, student council activities, and school policies encouraging observable changes in student behavior, such as properly disposing of trash, maintaining classroom cleanliness, caring for plants, using reusable food containers, and reminding peers to keep the school clean. Documentation further highlights supporting factors, including the commitment of school principals, the Adiwiyata organizational structure, and parental support, alongside obstacles such as budget constraints, low participation among some teachers, and limited ongoing training. The findings demonstrate that the synergy of policies, learning, school culture, and the participation of all school elements critically influences the success of environmental character building. The implications of this research underscore the importance of institutional strengthening, program sustainability, and the integration of environmental education into school policies and the national curriculum to cultivate ecological character in the next generation.
