Abstract

This study aims to develop a comprehensive school guidance and counseling program model by integrating the international models of ASCA (American School Counselor Association) and ABKIN (Indonesian Guidance and Counseling Association), tailored to the local context of Indonesia. The research utilised the Borg and Gall research and development design, which includes development, testing, and validation steps. A purposive sample of 141 guidance and counseling teachers from various educational levels across Indonesia participated in the study. The developed model consists of two main frameworks: a general framework and a specific framework. The general framework includes the foundation, delivery system, management, and accountability, while the particular framework covers the rationale, philosophy, vision and mission, and program audit. The model was validated by four expert validators: (1) a professor of Guidance and Counseling from Semarang State University, focusing on junior high school education; (2) a professor from Malang State University, focusing on senior high school education; (3) a professor from Indonesian Education University, focusing on elementary school education; and (4) an expert lecturer in Early Childhood Education (PAUD). The validation results showed an average score of 4.1 out of 5, indicating that the model was considered satisfactory in feasibility and completeness. Suggested improvements emphasised further adaptation to local conditions and strengthening evidence-based accountability. This model is expected to enhance the effectiveness of school counseling services by supporting student development in three main domains: the academic domain (learning to learn), the career/vocational domain (learning to earn), and the personal/social domain (learning to live). With a more adaptive approach to the specific needs at various educational levels, this guidance and counseling model can better support student growth.

Abstract

Abstract

COVID-19 bears various traumatic impacts on students. This study aims to identify PTSD symptoms in junior and senior high school students after the COVID-19 outbreak. The study was conducted using a cross-sectional survey method. Meanwhile, the data was collected using a problem checklist instrument. Further, the obtained data were analyzed using non-parametric statistics with the Mann-Whitney test to identify differences in PTSD symptoms based on gender and level of education. The results of the analysis show that symptoms appear in every physical, emotional, mental, behavioral, and spiritual aspect. Besides, we also found a significant difference in the level of anxiety disorder between male and female students after COVID-19, while there is no significantly distinct anxiety disorder between junior and senior high school students. In the end, we recommended that more in-depth research regarding the forms of intervention to reduce PTSD in students should be carried out.

Abstract

Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often experience challenges in logical reasoning and problem-solving, which can hinder their computational thinking (CT) development. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of programming algorithm-based learning media in enhancing CT skills among children with ASD during Phase C informatics learning. A mixed-method approach combining Design-Based Research (DBR) and Single Subject Research (SSR) was employed. The study involved three children with ASD enrolled at SD BPI Bandung. The DBR process consisted of four stages: needs analysis, media design, development, and implementation. The intervention was conducted through an SSR design with three phases—Baseline 1 (A1), Intervention (B), and Baseline 2 (A2)—to assess changes in CT performance. All participants demonstrated notable improvements in CT skills following the intervention. For example, Participant KA’s score increased from 20% to 60%, KZ’s from 30% to 60%, and SB’s from 20% to 45%. The results indicated consistent upward trends and stable retention during the post-intervention baseline phase, suggesting that the programming algorithm learning media effectively enhanced computational thinking abilities. The findings support the use of structured, technology-assisted learning to promote CT in children with ASD. However, the small sample size limits generalizability, and future studies should include larger, more diverse participants. The study underscores the importance of developing adaptive, inclusive learning media that accommodate individual cognitive and sensory needs.

Abstract

The rise of globalization and increasing cultural diversity in modern societies pose complex challenges in shaping polite character, which is considered universal but varies significantly across cultures. This study aims to explore the characteristics of polite behavior from multiple cultural perspectives, evaluate its application in multicultural education, identify factors influencing its development, and investigate the integration of universal politeness with local cultural values. A qualitative approach was employed through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) guided by the PRISMA protocol. Literature was sourced from Scopus and Google Scholar, focusing on Q1–Q4 journals published between 2020 and 2025 in Indonesian and English. The review of ten cross-cultural studies revealed diverse politeness strategies across regions from East Asia to Africa, highlighting ten influential factors, including cultural orientation, social status, relational closeness, and pragmatic competence. The findings show that politeness is not a fixed construct but a culturally contextual phenomenon, necessitating holistic and adaptive strategies in multicultural education. This study concludes that integrating universal values with cultural particularities requires intercultural pragmatic competence and culturally responsive pedagogy. These findings offer both theoretical and practical contributions to character education, emphasizing the importance of balancing global standards with local wisdom in fostering social harmony.

Abstract

The abstract should end with a comment about the importance of a brief outcome or conclusion. The integration of information and communication technology (ICT) in education often remains limited to knowledge transfer without adequately promoting critical thinking or emotional development. School counselors are expected to adopt holistic, student-centered approaches aligned with deep learning principles. This study aimed to enhance junior high school counselors' competencies in Garut Regency through Socratic method training as a strategy for implementing deep learning principles in guidance and counseling services. A qualitative participatory action research design was employed with 51 guidance and counseling teachers using the APPLE Facilitation Model (Assess, Plan, Prepare, Lead, Evaluate). Data were collected through reflective exercises, service plan development, practical implementation observations, and in-depth interviews, then analyzed using thematic analysis. Profound professional transformation emerged across four dimensions: identity shift from advice-givers to facilitators, enhanced student engagement, collaborative professional culture development, and increased comfort with uncertainty. Implementation outcomes showed 98% increased confidence in student-centered approaches, 91% motivation for facilitative methods, and 96% intention to implement Socratic questioning. The integration of deep learning principles through Socratic method training demonstrated significant promise for enhancing school-based guidance and counseling effectiveness. The APPLE model proved effective for systematic professional transformation in Indonesian educational contexts.
