Abstract

Background: Journal reviewers play a crucial role in disseminating research findings, but novice researchers often struggle with their feedback. This study explores how novice researchers engage with journal reviewer feedback.Methodology: This study is part of a larger research project examining novice researchers' publishing attitudes and practices in an English as a foreign language (EFL) setting. A case study approach was employed to gain an in-depth understanding of how novice researchers engage with journal reviewer feedback. Interviews, conducted in Bahasa Indonesia, were the primary data source, supplemented with textual data, including manuscripts and response letters.Findings: Novice researchers engage with feedback behaviorally, affectively, and cognitively. Affective responses vary based on feedback nature and prior experience. They appreciate positive feedback but find rejections frustrating. Personal judgment influences how they value feedback. Conclusion: Novice researchers diligently address all feedback despite emotional fluctuations. This reveals a disconnect between their affective and behavioral domains. The study emphasizes the importance of active engagement with reviewer feedback in the scholarly publication process.Originality: This research fills a gap in understanding novice researchers' interactions with journal reviewer feedback, emphasizing the role of experience and personal judgment. It contributes to the literature on student engagement with feedback in academic writing.

Abstract

Artificial intelligence literacy is a comprehensive set of skills, knowledge, and ethical considerations that are essential for the responsible and efficient integration of artificial intelligence into daily activities. Nevertheless, there is currently a lack of a comprehensive framework that enables the comprehensive analysis of all aspects of digital stories in a broad sense. By providing an analytical framework that allows the authors to evaluate digital stories generated by students from a variety of perspectives, this study endeavors to address this gap. The authors employ this paradigm to illustrate how learners can leverage the diverse modalities of digital tales to improve their comprehension of the curriculum, while simultaneously creatively expressing their identities and perspectives. Throughout their involvement in AI learning and digital story writing activities, the interviews with students were designed to investigate their perspectives on learning.

Based on the results of Group Statistics, it is found that the average value of the posttest for the control group was 61.05 while the experimental group was 84. Thus, statistically, it can be concluded that there are significant differences in learning outcomes between the control group with the lecture method and the experimental group using Schoology. In other words, the use of Schoology is effective in learning also helps improve English learning outcomes of students of Nursing Program.

This study aims to determine the impact of storytelling as a teaching tool in Islamic high schools. Since they will have numerous opportunities to learn English effectively, this study also focused on selecting tenth-grade students as participants. If students who are told stories have an impact on their ability to communicate, the researcher would like to investigate this. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the storytelling approach as a teaching strategy in secondary Islamic institutions. The purpose of this study is to determine whether the narrative method may help tenth-grade students at MAN 1 Samarinda become more proficient speakers. Pre- and post-tests were employed in the quantitative research design to gauge how well storytelling improved students' speaking abilities. Written assessments, group discussions, and questionnaires were the study's instruments. Students were required to create short stories based on their everyday experiences for the written exam. During group presentations, students read the stories they had written in front of the class, and their performance was evaluated on their fluency, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, idea structure, expression, and gestures. Students' responses about using the storytelling method to improve their speaking abilities were gathered through questionnaires. Abstract

Along with the growing awareness of gender equality, language learning should start working on issues of gender equality besides focusing on language acquisition. Using interactive qualitative methods from Miles, Huberman, and Saldana combined with Peirce's semiotics, this study aimed to examine the depiction of gender roles displayed in illustrations of English textbooks for eighth grade students. The results showed that there were attempts to deconstruct the gender roles of both men and women, although gender stereotypes remained common. The emerging stereotypes were depictions of men with darker skin colour and male characters doing outdoor activities. In addition, the proportion of female characters appeared less frequent than male characters. Meanwhile, the deconstruction raised was the role of boys in household activities such as cooking, sweeping, wrapping gifts, setting up dining table, and using clothes in pastels while the female characters were depicted in outdoor activities. However, the delivered deconstruction was subtle as identified in female characters engaged in outdoor activities tended to get safer settings than male characters. Considering that children’s perception on gender are affected by language, it is important for parties involved in language learning to be aware of things that may extend gender role disparities found in the widely accessed learning material such as textbooks and address these issues while conducting their language instruction.

Starting from this condition, this study aimed to describe the students’ reading comprehension of English textual literacy among the Zillenial generation. Another goal, of this study, was to identify the students’ reasons related to their reading in textual comprehension. This study applied mixed methods both quantitative and qualitative. The design used descriptive statistics and interviews. the instrument used was a test and a list of interviews. the population in this study was 99 students of Public Vocational Schools in Samarinda whereby, overall, this population also became the sample.  The result was the students in the fair category. The majority of students got a score around 70 which was included as a fair category. This is in line with the school policy of considering minimum passing grades in English subjects. From qualitative data, it was found that the students were helped by the test which was considered as lower-order thinking (LOT). The test was in multiple choice and the topic was familiar. Surprisingly, based on the findings, this Zillenial generation has low literacy as they acknowledged that they don’t have any specific time for doing English literacy except only the teacher’s command. If the topic of the text is considered difficult usually, they will use translator apps to comprehend the text easily.
